About this property

Blackpool House - Walk to Oneroa Beach

Summary:

A quiet architectural hideaway surrounded by native bush, Blackpool House is a spacious retreat designed for couples who want privacy, nature, and modern comfort. Set among mature Taraire trees and just a short walk from Little Oneroa and Blackpool Beach, this light filled home offers a peaceful base close to the best of Oneroa.

The Space:

Blackpool House is an architect designed retreat set in the treetops, with warm timber interiors, high ceilings, and large glass openings that frame the surrounding bush. The design creates a calm, secluded atmosphere, with sunlight filtering through the canopy and native birds moving through the trees around the home.

The main living area sits on a split level, opening directly to two generous outdoor decks that catch the sun at different times of day. These spaces work well for slow mornings, quiet afternoons, or evenings listening to the sounds of the valley. Inside, the living room is comfortably furnished and looks out toward the bush, creating a relaxing space to unwind after exploring the island.

A central feature of the home is the mezzanine library, which overlooks the living area. This elevated nook has built in shelving, a daybed style reading platform, and a view through the treetops, making it a favourite place to spend time with a book.

Upstairs, the treetop bedroom opens to views across the valley and down toward Te Huruhi Bay. The king bed is dressed in quality linens, and the large windows bring in soft morning light and glimpses of native birds moving through the canopy. The adjacent bathroom includes a spacious shower and a window outlook over the surrounding bush.

The home is designed for quiet, simple living in nature. Light, privacy, and a strong sense of place give Blackpool House a calm, restorative feel.

The Neighborhood:

Blackpool House by Stay Waiheke is tucked into a quiet bush setting, yet it is still close to the food, shopping, and coastal walking tracks that make this part of Waiheke so convenient. Little Oneroa Beach is a short five minute walk for morning swims or fish and chips from the Little Oneroa Takeaway. Oneroa Village is around fifteen minutes on foot and has everything you need for relaxed island days.

For breakfast or coffee, Wai Kitchen and Akito are reliable daytime spots with good views and fresh menus. Solar Eating House and Fenice offer relaxed lunches in the village, and The Oyster Inn is known for coastal dining with local seafood. For easy takeaway options, Dragonfired Woodfired Pizza sits in the main village carpark.

Oneroa Village also includes boutique shops, galleries, clothing stores, a bookshop, a chemist, a wine store, and a small supermarket, making it simple to pick up supplies without needing a car. The central location of Blackpool House also places you close to several walking tracks that wind through the bush and down to Blackpool Beach or around the coastline toward Hekerua Bay and Oneroa.

Getting Around:

The nearest bus stop is within walking distance and connects easily to Oneroa, Onetangi, and the ferry terminal. Buses also stop near major vineyards including Cable Bay, Mudbrick, and Wild on Waiheke.

Taxis on Waiheke are expensive, and private drivers can also be costly. Hire cars, e bikes, and scooters are often the most practical and cost effective way to explore the island. On site parking is available at the property.

Other Things to Note:

Note: Blackpool House is not suitable for children aged 2 to 12.

February 2017

Mark's house is stunning with superb architecture and interior design. It truly deserves 5 stars. You're secluded in the bush, yet so close to town. We highly recommend it.

August 2018

If you want a place to stay where a lot of pleasurable things have been thought about and incorporated in the house designs this is it. if you want to stay somewhere that's interesting and unique and not a typical beach house , dealt with by an assured hand, this is it. Close enough to walk to the treats of Oneroa but not at all suburban this is a great place to stay. With beautiful bush and mature tree outlook and complete privacy come and experience relaxation.

January 2019

A wonderful home, beautifully designed and set in a lovely bush environment. Great location, just a short walk to two different beaches (Blackpool or Little Oneroa) and Oneroa township. We'll be back for sure. Thanks Mark and Di.

September 2019

this spot is really the perfect place to get away from the city. it feels secluded and is beautifully decorated with modern touches that feel soulful and warm. the kitchen is so well stocked, appliance-wise, and the host was really quick to answer questions. loved every minute !

June 2020

A lovely place to chill out and enjoy the sounds of the birds. lovely decking area to sit in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine. A few steps down to the unit which are fine but take a torch if our at night. A really lovely place to enjoy some quiet time and a nice little walk into the town.

July 2020

Awesome place nestled by tall trees and the beach. Home is close to town making it easy to walk out for meals or some local shopping. Great place to unwind and relax.

October 2020

Lovely place to stay on Waiheke if your looking for a nice couples retreat. Awesome location and beautiful position amongst the trees.

February 2021

Wonderful little spot nestled in the native Waiheke bush. The best part was the complete privacy offered. The little bush walk down to the Blackpool Beach topped off the day, as did the sound of the birds in the morning. Will be heading back.

April 2021

We really enjoyed our stay! Loved being surrounded by the bush and seeing lots of beautiful birds including Tui and Kereru. Would highly recommend this place in Waiheke
