My second time here, this little place is a gem. Clean, everything needed for a stay at Carters Beach. So close to everything, walks, biking. Also homely if you just want to chill in the garden . I was travelling alone, felt totally safe in this place. I guess someone tall might struggle with the ceiling height, but thats not an issue for me . 10/10

thanks for your feedback jo. Glad you enjoyed your stay despite the wild weather. The EO error message you received is because you used a non induction pot on the induction plate as outlined in the manual in the unit
Stayed x 10 nights. Very comfortable and had everything I needed. Donaldo's right across the road. Short walk to beach. No issues with stairs or loft living. Would definitely consider staying again.
It was really nice to walk in and fine a cosy home for our 2 nights stay. Well equipped kitchen and everything was well arranged / thoughtful touches.
So close to the beach and the coffee shop - there was so much to do and see - eg the seal colonies.
We’ll stay again. Thanks
Very comfortable. Had everything I needed. Great location.
Do read the fine print - (very) low ceiling in lounge/bedroom - and the stairs would be challenging if you are not particularly mobile.
However, I would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
Great location. Quirky place with really comfortable beds. Head banging with the low ceiling. Fun though.

Very unique property, not keen on the stairs, difficult to get luggage up to the living area but we coped with leaving it downstairs, no others using the shared space so felt safe enough. Bed comfortable and warm. Electronic Cooktop did not work but there was an older version which did work very well and sufficed for our needs. Beautiful stay for an economical rate. Thank you so much! We loved it :)
The short steep stair access and low ceilings are certainly real but we (80 and 73) managed just fine. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the location, spaciousness and kitchen outfitting were great...which made for a very nice 3 night stay--much of which was wet and cold! Thank you

lovely to have you. Glad you were comfy in our beach nest.
All was good, some aspects a bit quirky and may not suit everyone. In particular the sloping lower ceiling and the TV set up.
Thanks Alistair

yes, this is a loft apartment with the typical sloping loft roof, clearly described on our listing. The tv is internet based offering free netflix. Tvnz news is accessed by guests thru the tvnz app on their devices using our free wifi. Glad you liked everything else Alistair. It is indeed an ideal spot.
Exactly as advertised. The stairs were a great challenge for the hip replacement, I came away with a good functioning hip. Learnt to ride my bike again. Enjoyed the bike trail plus the wee restaurant on the corner. The low ceiling caused the 6 footer a few adverse reactions but he got used to it, All in all a great holiday.

Totally agree that the loft studio is not suitable for tall or mobility challenged folk, as our listing CLEARLY states. I just wish all guests would read the information provided by Vrbo and owners before booking something unsuitable for them and then writing a negative review because its unsuitable.
I thought this property would be quirky but it was just shoddy. The stairs felt unsafe, it had a hemmed in feeling and was really stuffy with no nice windows to look out. The furnishings were really ugly and tatty. I wouldn't recommend this as a place to stay with children under 5 or if you are taller than 165cm. The location is good and it was clean. The cafe around the corner is a greta place to eat.

sorry it wasnt to your taste. Some people love it, some dont. The text on our listing clearly states it is not ideal for tall people or young children with a short flight of steep stairs and a loft style roof. There are 4 opening windows, 2 large ones over kitchen bench looking out to the ocean. Comments that the furniture is shoddy etc are extremely subjective with much of it new. The only old furniture is the 2 recliners which are so comfy people love them. They both have new covers. If this cottage is as you suggest, why do we have many guests who have stayed 2 and 3 times?

This is a beach bach 150 metres from the ocean. We use indoor/outdoor carpet to cope with sand etc guests bring in after gaving a great time at the beach. Plus at $94 a night which is what this guest paid, dont exoect The Ritz.

We do everything we can to make sure guests Know and understand what they are booking when they book our loft unit. Here is the "fine print" these guests did not read. It is in the property descriotion.
Please note. This cottage is not suitable for children or elderly, or those with mobility challenges. It is also not ideal for very tall people as the ceiling has sloping beams, so the roof is lower on one side than the other. Access to loft space is a short flight of steep stairs.
Many people love it. These people should never. have booked it.
I have worked around the world as a broadcaster and public relations practitioner. But back in 2000 I discovered the northern westcoast region of Buller. I fell in love with it. I have in lived in several parts of this beautiful area. I have always loved Carters Beach and have only recently purchased this 2-cottage property which now allows me to share this stunning area with you.
Why they chose this property
It offers a beachfront location with a sheltered west coast bush feel to it with stunning black mamaku pungas, nikau palms and kauri on the section. It is close to great food, a friendly community and is in the middle of an amazing selection of activities from cycling of all levels, to golf, fishing both salt and freshwater, and Westport's shops and cafes. It is also minutes from Westport airport.
What makes this property unique
The airiness of this loft style cottage along with its replica bed, heritage windows and its lookout to sea is romantic, private and quirky. There's nothing concrete block about this place. Not great for extra tall people though.
