Iconic 70's Kiwi Bach at Simpsons Beach

Iconic 70's Kiwi Bach, (sleeps 6 indoors comfortably - see bedding configuration below)
7 kms from Whitianga town centre at beautiful Wharekaho/Simpsons Beach. 60m from beachfront, this 70's style north/east facing 2 level bach has a large flat grassy section (ideal for tents x 2 , boat parking or that backyard game of cricket) and great herb garden for BBQ-ing up a storm with your catch of the day!.


2 levels - Upstairs : 1 bdrm (queen), kitchen/ living area, bathroom ( toilet, single basin & shower) , deck, 6-burner hooded BBQ, outdoor dining table, umbrella etc.

Downstairs : kitchenette (no stove), living/dining,
1 x bedroom with queen bed & 2 bunks(in same room)
Pull out sofa (king single) in living area also available.. if needed although a little uncomfortable.
Bathroom with shub shower & separate toilet and laundry. A 2nd BBQ (lg hot-plate & grill) & an outdoor shower.

Sleeps 6-8 max (indoors) 2 bedrooms - 2 Q’s and 2 bunks (with pull out sofa/futon available in lounge if required) - nice flat, grassy section is suitable for 2 x tents also on the property if needed for a few xtra's (max tenting 4 persons)

Come to catch the sun, surf, fish, relax and enjoy the festive season at beautiful Simpsons Beach. Pantry is well provisioned with everyday basics, herbs, spices , flour, sugar etc and condiments, - just replace what you use.

It's your basic kiwi getaway - 70's bach - no frills-
but it will take the hard knocks and is pet friendly - although not fenced.
Simpsons Beach allows doggys over the holiday period - lead-free as long as they are off the beach by 9.00am until 6pm in the evening - when they are again permitted to return. (these restrictions run 23rd Dec thru to approx 10th Feb each year + any public holiday)

60m from the beach, large flat section ideal for tents x 2 with plenty of off-street parking for your boat & vehicles.

Please Note : Not really suitable for young children - being a 70’s build and "untouched" our balcony balustrade upstairs does not meet today's building code requirements - with 3 single slat-rails, - slatted and open, we feel it is not suitable for anyone with children under 8 yrs - due to the fact that younger children could easily fall/slip through the slat gaps . (See photo 3) property is also unfenced.

We absolutely loved our stay, the house was equipped with everything we could need, there was a great lawn space outside for cricket and super close to the beach.So happy we could take our little dog too, perfect spot for a family holiday

Relaxing holiday atmosphere

We enjoyed it a lot. Everything was neat, clean and organised. It's got all you ever want from a holiday batch. Only drawback is that downstairs has no internal staircase to upper section.

Amazing location... gorgeous view

The house was perfect! We could have the teenage kids downstairs where they felt they were having their own private holiday! The house was gorgeously quirky with cool decor and everything you needed on hand to BBQ or rustle up a wee dinner. The view was outstanding and falling asleep to the sound of the Ocean was amazing! Good night sleeps had by all!

"Get away"

My Sister was visiting for a few weeks & we decided to get away as a family. We normally travel to Waihi Beach but were looking for a change. Simpson's Beach proved an excellent choice, weather, Bach, beach & local facilities were on point. Even booked a flight back to Auckland from the local airfield for an emergency? Joanne was awesome with the admin & comms.

Beautiful stay despite the weather

Wharekaho is a beautiful quiet place, just a stones throw from the 'bustling' town of Whitianga. Its a lovely community and all that can be heard at night are the Ruru and the waves. The bach is quaint and has everything you need. The epitome of a Kiwi holiday. The downstairs bunk bedroom area seems to have been though an upheaval and was very dusty with a rough concrete floor. The children had to sleep elsewhere because of it. Regardless they didn't seem to mind and had a fabulous time in a special part of the country.

Simpson Beach, Whatekaho

What a lovely surprise arriving at this property during Cyclone Hale, fresh cut agapanthus from the garden greeted us, along with fresh herbs in small bottles, everything provided from soap, towels, tea, coffee, milk and much more. Beautifully made beds and bath towels provided for our use. Even though it rained constantly we had all the comforts of home. A short walk to the beach to walk off the cobwebs (and dog) for long walks up and down the beach. Close enough to drive into Whitiangi for supplies, bars and restaurants. Our Hostess Joanne was awesome to sort out a few things we needed sorted, nothing big but she responded quickly and thoroughly. Overall 10/10 for us and we will be going back sometime soon 😀

Perfect family getaway.

We stayed at this iconic 70's Kiwi Bach in Wharekaho as a family of 4 adults and 2 children, and it was a fantastic experience!The Bach was clean and very well-maintained. The beds were cosy and comfortable, making it perfect for all six of us.The Bach had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. There is no Wi-Fi, allowing us to disconnect and enjoy quality time together playing some board games. The deck offered partial ocean views, and the sound of waves could be heard from anywhere in the house – incredibly calming! The laundry and tumble dryer were also very convenient.The location was ideal – just a short, easy walk to the beach, perfect for morning strolls or evening walks. It was also a quick drive to Whitianga for shopping. The two kitchens were a bonus, with plenty of refrigerator space to store all our food and drinks. On-site parking made it convenient, and the property was easy to find.The host had everything perfectly set up for our arrival, and we encountered no issues during our stay. The lovely garden provided a great space for the kids to play with their ball while we relaxed.This Bach is certainly located, with easy short drives to must-visit spots like Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, and Coromandel Town. There's so much to do and see in the area!Would absolutely recommend and definitely visit again in future.

This is our no- frills holiday bach - which has all the basics for a great laid-back, carefree summer vay-stay. Pet friendly and close to whiti city for attending those Coroglen concerts - bus leaves to and from Smithy's daily for concert goers!!
