About this property
Baragoola Retreat - Luxury Waterfront Property in the Southern Tasmanian Bush
Discover an extraordinary waterfront home that will leave you enchanted. Just 30 minutes from Hobart CBD, but a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Take the time to unwind in this calm and beautiful place, surrounded by Tasmanian nature at its purest, in your own piece of paradise.
This stunning home is set on 8 acres of light bush, overlooking Ralphs Bay. Just a crown reserve between you and the water. Enjoy complete peace and privacy with constantly changing water views from every room in the house, even the bathroom!
Baragoola Retreat is the perfect place for that romantic weekend away, the family getaway, or for a group of friends exploring Tasmania.
Indulge yourself with the little extra luxuries, from the inbuilt espresso machine, loose leaf teas, locally made soaps, to the ultimate free-standing bath overlooking the water. Cook up a storm in the chefs kitchen and enjoy your meal indoors, surrounded by the view, or alfresco, on one of the huge decks.
Read a book from the library, watch a movie or just relax with a glass of your favourite Tassie beverage in front of a roaring log fire, or out on the deck (depending on the season).
A number of beaches are within a few minutes drive, including the great surf at Clifton Beach and the sheltered and safe swimming at Opossum Bay. The fabulous Tangara Trail, accessed from the bottom of the block, provides kilometres of walking track along the waterfront.
For the energetic there are a range of activities nearby including fishing, bushwalking, swimming, stand up paddle boarding, surfing and wine tasting. You can even embark on the captivating pursuit of Aurora Australis sightings- Goats Bluff Lookout is a 3 minute drive from Baragoola Retreat's doorstep, and happens to be one of the best places in the Southern Hemisphere to see the auroras. Then again you may just want to spend all your time in the house, eating, drinking, relaxing, and simply spending time with your family and friends!
There are 2 bedrooms and the property can sleep up to 4 people.

Bathrooms
The main bathroom has a large free-standing bath overlooking the view, a large walk-in shower, vanity and toilet.
The ensuite (off bedroom 2) has a toilet and vanity.
Kitchen
Fully equipped and with all mod cons, this kitchen is a dream to cook in. Freestanding stove with 5 burner gas cooktop and 90cm electric oven. Dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, rice cooker, soda stream, inbuilt espresso machine, and large double door fridge/freezer. We even have a small herb garden in possum-proof cages on the property.
Laundry
Washing machine, dryer, sink, iron, and ironing board.
Deck
The large, wrap around decking has extensive views of Ralphs Bay, Bruny Island, distant southern mountains, Mt Wellington herself, and the open ocean. There are 2 loungers that can be moved around the deck, to chase the sun. There is a gas powered BBQ that is simple to use, and a large outdoor table and benches.
Garden
In front of the property, between the house and the water, is a medium sized lawn. Here, you will often find marsupials during dawn and dusk, particularly possums and bandicoots. There is an abundance of rosemary and thyme that you can help yourself to. There is also a ramshackle path down to the gate, which leads directly to the renowned Tangara Trail. You can take the short walk down to the little beach visible from the deck, or walk a 7km round trip to Mortimer Bay. The Bay is a perfect paddling or swimming spot for little ones, as it's only about waist deep at its deepest point.

About the host
Hosted by Emma Sanders

Managing holiday homes is my full time job and passion - I love creating a memorable guest experience for every stay. On the side, I like to travel and cook, which can be tricky with a toddler! But we manage and we have fun doing it.
Why they chose this property
Sandford is a rural location on a beautiful peninsula about 30km outside Hobart. It is known as "Paradise Peninsula" by the locals and you will see why when you get here. It is stunning bushland set on a seascape, surrounded by tidal bays and white sand beaches. Dotted in the bush are the properties of the lucky locals set on large blocks of 5 the 8 acres, most with fabulous views over the ocean and Mt Wellington. It truly is a remarkable part of Tasmania but we live here so we might be biased!
Surrounding coastal hamlets include Cremorne, Clifton Beach, South Arm, and Opossum Bay, each totally charming. Lauderdale is just a 10 minute drive away and boasts a Hill Street Grocer (a Tassie treasure), a gourmet butchers, gym, pharmacy, post office, garden centre, multiple trendy cafes, restaurants, a pub, a bottle shop, Thai and Japanese takeaway, and surf/SUP board hire. Just 5 minutes down the road from Lauderdale is Glebe Hill, a large shopping centre with a Woollies, bakery, multiple popular takeaways (maccas, subway, pizza etc) and all the other essential services.

What makes this property unique
With floor to ceiling windows, breath-taking views, and a wrap around deck, you can reconnect with Mother Nature at it's most tranquil. Surrounding the property is the sound of lapping waves and melodious bird song, with a backdrop of mountains, a glorious tidal bay, and the open ocean. All this incredible nature, and just a 30 minute drive from the vibrant Hobart city centre. Here, you can have it all!
I live on the property, in a house next door, so I can be there at a drop of the hat if any problems arise. I keep a low profile during your stay, but I'm always happy to meet guests and help out with anything.
