About this property
Restful 3 Bedroom Mountain Retreat Bordering National Forest, 31+ day stays
Do you long for a true mountain get-a-way? A quiet, private space to relax, unwind, and appreciate the simple things in life? I fell in love with this property the first time I saw it. Our mountain home is located just about an hour from Fort Collins, and less than 2 hours from Denver International Airport. It is nestled in a rocky outcropping just down the road from Red Feather Lakes. Sitting on the edge of Roosevelt National Forrest, there are no properties south of our home. Just uninterrupted forest. Curl up by the fireplace or sip your morning coffee on the daybed in the sunroom and enjoy the panoramic views.
My husband and I have updated the spacious kitchen with new flooring, all new quartzite counters, a new sink and full sized appliances. We like to cook so we have loaded the kitchen with all the gadgets a cook could need, including a vintage Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, a blender, food processor and an InstantPot.
All the bathrooms have new mirrors, lighting, counters and sinks.
By the fireplace we have a generous Arhaus leather sofa and two comfy chairs. Eat (and work) at the walnut dining table as you look out bay windows onto the National Forest.
In the bedrooms, all the mattresses are good quality, the king and queen are natural latex, and the two twin mattress are Tuft & Needle. All the mattresses are firm. All bedrooms have views. (In fact, all the rooms including the bathrooms have beautiful views.)
The night sky is amazing, with little light pollution, when the moon isn't too big, the milky way is in full view. We have a telescope for star gazers.
One caveat: The land our house is on, is rugged, rockey, hilly, uneven, and not landscaped. We provide walking sticks. But venturing out onto the property is best for extremely sure-footed, seasoned hikers who have good hiking shoes and who feel comfortable walking 'off trail'. For everyone else, we recommend staying to the roads and the many designated hiking trails in our community.
In addition, there are wild animals such as bear and mountain lions routinely spotted (often on camera but also in person) in our community. We do provide bear spray. Small children should always be supervised and never left unattended. If living close to wild animals makes you nervous, then this area probably isn't for you.
Finally, cellphone signal is weak/non existant so you must enable Wi-Fi calling on your cell phone. Some carriers like AT&T ask you to do that in advance.
We do have Star-link high-speed internet and it has proven to be fast and reliable so far.

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne Smith

When we found this special house, nestled in the rocks, fronting National Forest, well it was a dream come true. And I knew I could not keep all that beauty for myself. I knew I wanted to share it with other people, it was so special. And hospitality is part of my Armenian background. It is an honor to have guests and we take pride in making people feel at home.
Why they chose this property
We have 3 acres but it feels like we have thousands of acres. This house looks out onto Roosevelt National Forest, there are no homes in front of our house. No power lines. Just trees and mountains. And to the west is 35 acres of private land with a remote cabin. You won't find many homes on lots this private with these views. We do have a few neighbors behind us and to the east, visible but a ways off, which I find comforting.
What makes this property unique
The rocks that surround it are amazing. It really is nestled in the most beautiful rocky outcroppings. Every window in the house has a view. Even the bathrooms.
The kitchen was updated with entertaining in mind, so the kitchen island is big, but so is the space to walk and work around it.
The upstairs hallway is wide, providing a bit more privacy to the bedrooms.
