The Hideout Cabin, stunning waterfront nature retreat
Take yourselves away on a stunning waterfront nature retreat at this private, peaceful and stylish solar powered cabin in the middle of the Tasmanian wilderness. Set up for up to four adults, this gorgeous home offers waterfront views, two luxurious bedrooms, a large kitchen with a Glemgas 6 burner gas stove and oven, an indoor fireplace, coffee machine and a fire-pit for enjoying balmy evenings. Add an absolute abundance of wildlife, fishing and swimming and you have the perfect getaway!
This meticulously-crafted two-bedroom home is built on raised piers, so that it seems to float above the land on the lower part of an attractive bush block. The boundary meets the Crown Reserve on the sheltered shores of an inlet of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.
This dwelling has a hexagonal floor plan with large windows to maximise the superb water views. In the entrance hall and the open living area there's the warmth of exposed timber beams, pine panelling and a polished hardwood floor. An unusual feature is a wall of reclaimed convict bricks, many with thumb-marks. Warmed by the wood-fired range and the sun, the wall acts as a heat sink in the centre of the home. The master bedroom enjoys sensational views through full-height windows with a Queen bed. The second bedroom also has a Queen. The bathroom has a clawfoot bath, vanity and basin.
Solar panels feed into a battery bank for power and lighting. Most windows are double-glazed for maximum energy efficiency. A beautiful wood burning heater heats the home in the cooler months, and ceiling fans circulate the air in the warmer months. There is also a refrigerator, washing machine, coffee machine, and a modern composting toilet.
Outside is a covered parking space at the front door and a Colorbond double garage with awning. A walkway wraps around the house from the front door, widening to a spacious deck with lovely views over the bay. A track extends down to the water, where it's easy to launch a dinghy or kayak. It's a few steps to a sandy beach for swimming and snorkelling.
Accessed by a gravel track off the end of a quiet no-through road, the location is private and secluded, yet conveniently close to the Roberts Point ferry terminal, which is just a 15 minute drive away.

The perfect spot to get away from it all, light the fire and watch the weather (which changes all the time on Bruny). Bring everything with you, as there are limited supplies on the island. The house is thoughtfully designed around the water views and to catch the afternoon sun. We were happy to stay put, cook, and rest. It's a very calming place.
We (my siblings, mum and I ) had two nights at the hideout cabin and it was blissfully peaceful. Beautiful outlook, comfortable beds and natural surrounding. close to ferry and easy to find. Such a natural location - a great stay!
Using the stayz app was the only difficult part of the experience. If you are looking for a secluded place for some serenity then I highly recommend staying here.
Fabulous cozy comfort immersed within insitue wilderness and rocky coastline.Large windows were a treat for morning pink sunrise views across bay from bedroom and golden sun drenched sunset drinks after long day of fantastic hikes and sightseeing on both islands. The warmth from the easy starting wood heater melted our tired muscles into comfy chairs with drinks in hand to enjoy the views and occasional blustery stormy afternoon sunset. We cooked all meals in the very well equipped kitchen. We just loved every minute of our stay.
We absolutely loved our stay at The Hideout Cabin. Just 10 minutes from the ferry, yet it feels like a world away—remote, peaceful, and surrounded by breathtaking ocean views.
The property itself is stunning. A perfect winter escape, with a cozy fireplace inside and a fire pit outside that sets the mood beautifully. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, with a six-burner cooktop and a large oven—ideal for cooking up a feast.
The bedrooms are generous in size and offer amazing views. It’s blissfully quiet—waking up to the sound of birds instead of traffic was such a treat for city dwellers like us.
The outdoor area is perfect for breakfast or a relaxed meal while taking in the beauty of the bay. At night, the sky puts on a dazzling show of stars, and the area is teeming with wildlife—it truly feels like you’re in a private slice of nature.
A special mention to Sarah, the property manager, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. Communication was flawless, with detailed check-in information provided in advance.
This place is a true gem. We only stayed two nights, but it wasn’t nearly enough—we could have easily stayed longer to truly unwind and soak in the serenity. Highly, highly recommended!
