It was as described. I did not look at all the reviews and pictures so it wasn't what we ended up looking for but we made do. I think the listing has been removed anyway but I wouldn't choose to stay again just because it didn't suit our family.

It was as described, yet you gave us three stars? The listing most certainly has not "been removed" (it's probably booked). Sorry it did not suit your family or that you did not bother to fully investigate the property before booking. No, 130 year old Victorian homes are not for everyone, but they are pretty cool if you enjoy history!
Our family of adult children and grandchildren enjoyed staying together in this location. There was plenty of comfortable seating, and the kitchen was fairly well stocked.

Thanks for your visit and for assisting us with our continual improvement goals.
House is in a good location but was not in shape to be rented. House was dirty, grass not cut, broken fixtures, spider webs everywhere, refrigerator was gross, all cabinet handles were dirty and very greasy, rugs stained, etc. We searched for another place to stay immediately upon arrival but everything was sold out due to a festival in York fairgrounds. So we stayed but a very uncomfortable experience.

We terminated our cleaner as a result of this stay and have since invested multiple days into addressing the issues from this review to bring this proper up to our standard of quality.

This is patently false, there is no mold in the property and we constantly strive to improve it regardless.
VRBO SLUM LORD. Read the reviews here and on other short-term rental sites. The negative ones are consistent. Hmmm... but oddly, on one popular site, there are three 5-star reviews from the same Kayla all within 2 months, and two 5-star reviews from the same Cesar in 2 months. It is uncomfortable leaving someone a negative review, but BE WARNED - Gross stained carpet upstairs in the hall & bedrooms, trashed floors downstairs in living/dining and kitchen, dirty walls, vulgar writing all over the basement stairs (there were 8 of us and the only other bathroom/shower is down there, so everyone got to see, including our daughter). A coat of paint over that stuff would be pretty fast and inexpensive. Upstairs shower threshold is disintegrating and leaving chips on the floor. We've stayed in many short-term rentals - saw some negative reviews on this, but thought there must be some sort of minimum standard. NEVER saw one in this condition before. We actually asked for a discount. Owner was indifferent and accusatory. Makes sense - obviously he's done nothing to improve since the prior negative reviews.

Funny, how many five star reviews have piled up since your stay, and how isolated your opinion is. Next time, stay in a soulless, box hotel room. A 130 year old Victorian home with character was clearly a poor choice for someone with such unmeetable expectations.
The house itself has beautiful antique features, particularly the wooden entryway. Despite the unusual cold snap, the radiators kept us very warm.

Next time, read the property description before you book a stay. Yes, sorry there was a big snowstorm during your stay, you had to leave early, and you felt the need to trash our property. We have undertaken pest control measures, given your feedback. Often heavy snow forces them inside.
About the host
Hosted by Property Owner / Manager Todd Smith
I grew up in York, just across Country Club Road, a stone's throw from this property! I enjoy leading cycling tours, traveling, and hosting others in town on business, to visit family, or attend events/reunions.
Why they chose this property
In visiting York a number of times to attend reunions and see friends, I was taken aback by how few choices there were for short term rentals! So I decided to so something about it! The neighborhood is great as you are steps off the York College Campus, and a very short walk to York Hospital. Stately mansions just around the corner. Restaurants and shopping, too!
What makes this property unique
The property sleeps 10, which is a rarity anywhere near downtown York and many of the surrounding sites.
