Great location for a romantic gateway, relax in peaceful surroundings or to use as a base to explore the region.
Little River Cottage is located far enough from the town to give a feeling of solitude, but close enough to provide the convenience for getting supplies.
Just a few metres from the front of the property is the meandering Murray river, surrounded by native tress , bushland and wildlife. All of this can be enjoyed from the kitchen/dining area, main bedroom, veranda ….. or a 10 second walk to the river bank.
The cottage is well equipped, with all the facilities you would expect, plus a few added extras.
We stayed in the middle of winter, but the cold was not a problem. The property was warm and snug. We spent the evenings outside in front of the chiminea, with a glass (or three) of wine and the trivial pursuit cards (provided) roasting marshmallows, enjoying the peacefulness ……. and wondering at the obscurity of ‘art and literature’ questions.
For those with young children, be aware that the hot water is scalding hot and the river is very close and very accessible. There is also a very strict no shoe policy indoors.
The host, Jess, went out of her way to make you feel welcome. The chiminea was alight when we arrived. We were greeted with a tour of the property and local information on arrival and provided presents on our departure. During our stay Jess ensured the wood was stocked and sent the occasional message to ask if we needed anything.
Overall, Little River Cottage exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend a visit.
