Stonegable: Perfect couples retreat;quiet, private, modern, close to everything!

Stonegable is a modern farmhouse nestled among pines and 150 acres of walking trails located just outside of Empire Village (2 miles) right in the middle of Leelanau farm country. You'll find yourself surrounded by cherry and apple orchards, hops farms and fields of sweet smelling hay. Fresh eggs can be purchased just down the driveway.
Stonegable has a new generator (2023) for storms. Runs everything but stove and microwave ( grill on site) . So you will have water, lights, hot water heater for showers, refrigerator. and heat in the event of a storm that results in a loss of power. Very few rental properties in Empire or northern Michigan have a generator back up plan which can save a vacation.

The home sports a gallery of original oil paintings of the property by a local artist which are all available for purchase. It’s a perfect property for a couples retreat , artists, writers, photographers,conservationists, bird watchers, nature lovers,and astronomers.

Unplug at Stone Gable with the quiet of crickets and the brilliance of stars. Leave the technology behind and enter into the past of simpler times before television and internet (Great Wifi available for those that need to work). You will experience a lovely farm house appointed with beautiful fresh duvets and a well stocked kitchen. The trees provide lots of cool shade and privacy. There is a fire pit for bonfires, a grill, and a deck off the kitchen for relaxing outside. The out buildings are the perfect setting for Plein Air painters and those that love the serenity of a real working farm.

Lake Michigan is also just just two miles away. A basketball court, beach volley ball, playground, and Empire public beach are available for guests enjoyment. Area is perfect for hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, kayaking or just lying on the beach. There are boat launches nearby for both Lake Michigan and South Bar Lake. Only 8 miles to Glen Arbor and 25 minutes to Traverse City.

This is our 5th year staying at Stonegable. We love the peace and quiet of country living. We also appreciate a well stocked kitchen with all the dishes, pots and pans, and utensils you might need.

Awesome house and property!

We've stayed in a lot of nice places, and this one is definitely our favorite! The inside is lovely and every window has a great view of the awesome property. So many things to do in the area a week just wasn't long enough. Will be back!

Perfect stay - peaceful

Cleanest stay we’ve been at, super easy check in, and truly enjoyed sitting on the deck watching nature morning and night. Saw many deer and cranes. So quiet yet convenient location. Host is kind and accommodating. Loved having the beach umbrella and mat. Everything is organized and made for an enjoyable week!

Beautiful spot

Such a special property!

We loved our second time staying at the house in Empire. The setting is gorgeous and the location feels remote without actually being too far from so many fun towns and activities. This place is a gem, and Maureen is a wonderful host.

Farm and beach oasis

Great location close to central Sleeping Bear beaches, yet tranquil amidst vast farm fields. Cozy cottage great for a couple with privacy on large farmland property. Sunset dinners on the field were a memorable experience.

A week at Sleeping Bear Dunes

Our vacation centered around hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes. The quaint farm house was the perfect spot. Absolute privacy on the quiet farm, but only a short drive to the National Shoreline. We were also only 30 minutes from Traverse City. Also close to the charming small towns of Empire and Glen Arbor. Stonegable was fully stocked with every to make us feel at home.

Very Quiet and Pretty

We enjoyed the quiet of this well-cared for little house. We loved spending time in the towns along M-22 and at the Sleeping Bear Dunes. And actually being able to see the stars in a dark night sky was a big bonus. Thanks so much!

Heavenly escape!

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Stonegable! It was comfortable, immaculate, and had everything we needed, The property is a perfect antidote to the tourist crowds in Glen Arbor and Empire. We could buzz into either town, or any of our favorite beaches easily, and escape back to total serenity and privacy when we’d had enough. And our dog, Stella, will probably sleep for a week after her adventures watching over all that property! Can’t wait to go back!!

Our week at Stonegable

We had a great time staying at Stone gable! The house is furnished with everything you need to prepare meals and live comfortably. Stone gable is close enough to Empire to run for necessities, but just far enough away to feel secluded. There is a lovely farm stand on the way to Empire that we bought produce from. Don't forget some cash, they use the honor system to pay! We highly recommend this as a vacation spot for couples or a small family!!

Peaceful and Relaxing in the Country

This was our 3rd year staying at Stonegable. My husband and I love the peacefulness of quiet country living, and the closeness of beautiful Lake Michigan. It is the best of both worlds. Maureen as always is extremely helpful and quick to respond to any questions or concerns. We hope to come back next year.

Quiet, cozy getaway

We returned to Stonegable for a second year to enjoy the peace and quiet, and amid the pandemic, considerable isolation. The renovated farmhouse was again clean and well-stocked. Our regret is that we didn't book two weeks. If you choose to stay at Stonegable, be sure to set aside a clear night to lie in the yard and admire the Milky Way.

Great place to unwind

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Stonegable. The house was very comfortable and we had great weather so we could leave the windows open and get some fresh air. The deck had a great view of the fields surrounding the property. We ventured out on the property to some walking paths up the hill in the back. Great workout;) The location was perfect to drive into town Empire (check out Tiffany's for some nummy ice cream) or Glen Arbor (great little grocery store and a few good restaurants as well). It is also located near several great beaches. Overall, we had a great week relaxing and checking out the area around Sleeping Bear dunes.

up north getaway

Best of both worlds with this rental! A beautifully restored and modern farmhouse in the country! Easy to access to Glen arbor/beaches/food/shopping but also lovely to get away from it all on the back deck with many walking trails right there. We were always happy to return home, reading and looking out on the beautiful fields. Great wifi, SUPER clean and equipped with anything you might need. Maureen made things easy and was instantly available for directions, ideas etc. Check in and out was so easy. Would return in a heartbeat. Thank you!

Idyllic Getaway

The property was in an ideal setting and location to visit the sites of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore Park. Nice and serene location just outside of Empire. Enjoyed watching the crows come back at nite to roost in the woods behind the house and seeing the deer come out to graze. Morning coffee on the deck was very pleasant. It was an easy drive to the other quaint towns (Glen Arbor, Leland, Arcadia) and other attractions. Stonegable was very comfortable and clean with an abundance of amenities. Kitchen was well stocked with the necessary cooking supplies. The outdoor gas grill was a nice addition for preparing the evening meals. Maureen was a great host. She communicated with us and insured our stay went well. We would highly recommend this rental to our family and friends and are looking forward to renting it in the future.
