Town: Coniston is a village at the head of Coniston Water, and is a pretty village in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. One of the villages most notable features is The Old Man of Coniston - one of the fells in the Furness Fells - which is popular for walkers and climbers. Many locations in Coniston were the basis for the book by Arthur Ransome 'Swallows and Amazons', with the Monk Coniston estate owned by a literary great Beatrix Potter, which she gave to the National Trust on her death bed.
