This traditional Yorkshire village is within the North York Moors National Park and on the edge of Dalby Forest, making it the perfect location for a small family to enjoy outdoor adventures during their holiday. Stone built and retaining many of the original beams, this property is a real hidden gem.

On entering the property, the open plan living area is flooded with natural light. The farmhouse style kitchen and breakfast bar is spacious and well stocked with everything you would need to cook a delicious meal after a day exploring the National Park. The comfy seating surrounding the large flat screen TV provides the perfect place to sit and relax whilst planning the next days adventures. The deep sofa provides the additional sleeping. To the end of the cottage is the large kingsize bedroom and opposite is a shower room. The cottage is decorated sympathetically with hues of grey and cream, and has a real home away from home feel. Outside there is a large enclosed patio with seating offering views across open countryside where you can sit and watch the owls hunt at dusk, and dawn if you’re an early riser! The sun sets and the night sky here is breathtaking.

This part of North Yorkshire is stunning and has many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. If you enjoy walking and hiking, Dalby Forest is the place for you. It is claimed that this area is also the best in the country for off road cycling, with world class trails as well as green runs for the less experienced. Barbecues are strategically placed throughout the forest encouraging visitors to spend the full day here. For the true adrenalin junkie, why not take in the views from the tree tops with a visit to Go Ape, also found in Dalby Forest.

A short drive from Owl Cottage brings you to the ’Foodie Capital’ of North Yorkshire, Malton, which plays hosts to independent shops, cafés, restaurants, delis, tea rooms and some quite lovely antique shops. The family theme park of Flamingo Land, with its themed rollercoasters and rides, is also a short drive away, along with Eden Camp and the stately home of Castle Howard, home of Granada’s ’Brideshead Revisited’ and ITV’s ’Victoria’. The medieval city of York is also within travelling distance, as are the coastal towns of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby. This charming cottage is situated perfectly for exploring all that this part of North Yorkshire has to offer. Beach 17½ miles. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles.

It's an shading cottage.
It's an shading cottage. Literally the only negative thing I can say, is I was being ultra critical, is the shower doesn't drain quick enough. So you have to keep on turning it off so it doesn't overflow. But other than that, I can't fault it. Had an amazing weekend. Thank you
