About this property
Historic Home, Modern & Charming Decor, Wine Trail, Private Rental
Where 1892 meets modern luxury in a vacation home rental, located in Alto Pass, Illinois. We are in the heart of the southern Illinois wine trail and just a few miles from Bald Knob Cross, gorgeous hiking areas and bike trails. You will love Havisham House. This house holds historic charm and is tastefully decorated. Very clean, spacious and private. You don't just get one room, you have the entire home.
This stately Main House offers two beautiful bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, parlor, living room, formal dining room, breakfast/sun room and a spacious and relaxing covered front porch. The living room has private doors, a gas fireplace and comfortable queen sleeper sofa. Main House sleeps up to 6 adults. Not a child-friendly home, only due to antiques, hardwood floors and staircase. But, we definitely allow children.
Havisham Bourbon, Brew & Spirits is adjacent to this property. They serve food, wine, cocktails, beer & have over 300 whiskies in stock. See website: havishamhouse.com
Why did we name it "Havisham House"? Have you read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens? Main character, Miss Havisham, lived in the Satis House, a ruined mansion. This property immediately reminded me of this classic novel when we found it in 2015… abandoned and heavily damaged from a severe tornado. (Please see "before" pictures at havishamhouse.com.) Even with its extensive damage, we fell in love with this property and had "great expectations" for its rescue. We think you will truly enjoy your stay as you make wonderful memories in southern Illinois. We know you will love Havisham House as much as we do.
