If you seek to stretch out, or to wind down, there’s nowhere so suitable as St John’s Wood. Amid its long, airy avenues and beautiful houses embowered in trees, the sounds of the city seem to come in a whisper. But you’ll want to hear all about Clifton Hill. Grade II listed, this home is as gracious as it is spacious. Under the Victorian veneer are tall ceilings and generous sash windows, modern sofas and bedrooms all agleam with light. The garden is a froth of green, the kitchen lovingly large and your location just that tiny bit marvellous... When your hosts first got their hands on Clifton Hill, it was derelict. A renovation later, it’s a home the whole family adore. He is a stockbroker, she helps out at the neighbourhood school, and they have two children. There’s something tremendously light and lovely about this home, not least in the sitting room. With its softly tinted walls, clean lines and sash windows which stretch from floor to ceiling, you’ll feel as if you’re in the cosiest of art galleries. Tumble into a gorgeous sofa awhile, or glide over the wooden floor and into the ginormous kitchen. Here is the hub of this home, with a modern breakfast bar, minimalist TV room and elegant dining area. And in the garden, why not lounge on the lawn, launch yourself on the trampoline or lunch al fresco. The master bedroom is all gentle whites and light woods, armloads of sunshine and an ensuite complete with rolltop bath and his and hers sinks. Little ones have the enviable choice of a charming twin room or a playful single, served by a glowing family bathroom. You’ve also an enticing attic double, with its own sunny ensuite. To Beatles fans, Abbey Road means only one thing – a famous zebra crossing and posing for plenty of photos. You’re the shortest of walks from St John’s Wood High Street, flanked with cafes, boutiques booksellers of the classiest sort, while Regent’s Park may well be London’s finest picnic. Nor will it take you long to reach town. The tube from St John’s Wood to Oxford Circus takes just nine minutes.
Home Truths:
- The en-suite bathroom for the double bedroom has a particularly low ceiling, so tall guests please beware. In summer time your hosts' regular gardener might pop by for an hour or two every couple of weeks to keep the garden looking trim and tidy. Details will be confirmed nearer the time, but please let our reservations team know if you'd prefer them not to come during your stay. This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between June and September, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period. This home is spread over four floors with no elevator. Since the onefinestay photoshoot, the twin beds in the third bedroom have been replaced with a double bed. We'll be taking new photographs soon.
- This is a private home with some personal touches.
- Please note this property requires full payment for the stay prior to check-in, guests will receive a message from the property with a secure payment link after booking. The lead guest must be at least 25 years old, we will check the lead guest’s I.D. and secure a £1,000 hold on a credit or debit card which will be released once we confirm no damage was caused during your stay.
