About this property
Porthtowan Lodge, pet-free, short walk to beach and SW coastal path
Our beautiful holiday lodge sits at the top of Towan Valley, tucked away in a quiet corner. It has a rear terrace, front veranda and a first floor balcony that offer privacy and enable you to be in the sun all day long, or in the shade if it gets too hot. The paved terrace at the rear is a private and sheltered space ideal for outdoor meals, sunbathing and relaxing on the large corner sofa.
Porthtowan's famous sand and surf beach is just a short walk away, while village amenities include a small grocery store, children's playground, surf hire and tuition and numerous cafes and pub / restaurants including the famous Blue Bar and the Unicorn On The Beach.
Nestling in a sheltered coastal valley and designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, the Towan Valley lodges are the ethical and responsible choice for a self-catering holiday in Cornwall. You will not be occupying a property that could be used as someone’s home.
The whole house has been refurbished in recent years and now features bathrooms with integrated WC and basin units, real wood flooring or vinyl tiles throughout. Best of all, an air source heat pump provides warm air to all rooms during the chillier days of spring, autumn and winter. Full size appliances make it ideal for a working vacation with the family, or a winter let.
The high speed fibre internet service keeps you in touch with the rest of the world at all times, and provides up to date local information and guides covering the whole of Cornwall.
The ground floor of the house is very spacious and light with three glazed doors and side windows. The lounge area has two comfortable leather sofas, coffee tables, a 49 in. Smart TV and a wide choice of reading material, games etc. The dining area has a large and sturdy oak dining set to seat 8, plus a further table for study, card games etc. The kitchen is separate and also large and well-equipped with a view to the rear and back terrace. There is also a WC on the ground floor.
The rear of the house is open right up to the roof with huge windows which greet the morning sun. A painted wood staircase leads to the first floor.
The main bedroom is also very spacious and has a delightful balcony which gets the sun for most of the day and has a lovely view over the rooftops to the surrounding countryside and down to the sea. This room has a superking size bed, plenty of drawers and a hanging rail plus a good sized en-suite shower room. Two more bedrooms offer a king size double bed and twin beds , both with storage space and hanging rails. The shared family bathroom has a full size bath with thermostatic shower mixer, plus wash basin and WC.
There is an allocated parking space just a short walk from the entrance door.

This property was excellent. It was exactly as described. We have stayed there multiple times and it has always been a pleasure. We would definitely recommend staying in this delightful location at this lovely property.
Really happy with our stay. Plenty of room indoors and front and back outdoor space. Very comfortable and provided everything that we needed.
Nice view from back of the property too.
It is a wonderful property in a beautiful location. Very well thought through to ensure a comfortable stay with everything you need. Very spacious, indoors and out. We loved it.
Great stay in Porthtowan. Everything was close to hand. The house was well equipped, very clean and comfortable. Porthtowan is a lovely place to be and an ideal base.
Can't recommend highly enough. Fantastic high spec property with everything needed for a home from home. Communication and check-in was great. Less than 10 minute walk to beautiful Porthtowan. Would love to come back next year.
Lovely house and felt so homely. Everything we needed. Gordon was a fantastic host and even delivered a nightlight to the house within 48 hours of us asking whether there was one in the house!
We would definitely recommend to others.
We're been visiting Porthtowan for years but this was the first time at this property. Absolutely perfect, nothing else to say, couldn't recommend it highly enough.
The accommodation suited our family of five very well. The communication with the host was extremely courteous, everything worked out very well. We can recommend it.
Have visited Porthtowan on many occasions over the years and stopped in a number of properties there. This is by far the best property we have stayed in. It is a short walk down the hill to the beach (less than 5 mins). The property was spotlessly clean, with modern furniture in a spacious open plan setting. The kitchen has everything you need and all utensils, cutlery and crockery match perfectly. Bathrooms were also spotless. A lot of care and attention has been taken by the owner who's communication before during and after has been impeccable. We will certainly be looking to head back in the near future. A gem of a property in one the best little beach resorts Cornwall has to offer.
The property worked well on so many levels.
The rooms were a good size and all are decorated like a home, so you feel instantly relaxed. The kitchen has everything you need and the beds are comfy. The outdoor space was great - sun in the back in the morning and sun on the front decking in the evening. Hooks outside the back for drying off wetsuits and space outside for all the surf/beach paraphernalia.
It’s about 10 mins walk to the beach and less to the coast path .. a 3 min hill (yep, we timed it ;) which is steep, but ok to get back to the property. But then you feel like you’ve ‘earned’ your cold beer.
Porthtowan is great. It has places to eat, a village shop, fish and chips and a family friendly beach with the most stunning sunsets!
Really enjoyed our stay and was sad to leave such a beautiful place.
House is great, has everything you need and is clean and tidy! Front outdoor space was also ideal for children to play and meet other children on holiday too.
Porthtowan is quant with a nice village feel. We were lucky most days with weather so didn't leave Porthtowan too much for the week we stayed. The walk up the hill to Towan Valley resort from the beach is quite steep and a bit of mission but is do-able. We were concerned about parking with two cars before we arrived but everyone at the resort double parked in their parking bays and there were plenty of room.
Just one main little grocery shop in Porthtowan so also wise to book a online delivery for when you arrive if you can. Tesco, Asda, sainsbury's and Waitrose all delivered whilst we were there.
Great property a short walk from the beach and surf
Great property, well set out and very comfortable for a family of six as long as people don’t mind sharing. Other children about for a bit of friendship making and games. Local town lacks the capacity needed for the numbers that come here, but the accommodation was wonderful.
Gordon’s communication was on point and he went above and beyond to help host our 18 month old.
The house is spot on for a family and the location is quiet without being too far from the beach and amenities.
Tolles Haus mit allem was man braucht. Schön eingerichtet, modernes sehr ansprechendes Resort. Toller Strand mit Lifeguards und netter Surfschule vor Ort. Perfekter Ausgangspunkt um Cornwall zu erkunden.
Thank you for a brilliant stay. The house was really clean and airy. Nicely decorated and felt fresh and clean. The house is in the top corner of the resort which felt very private and not overlooked. The sun outside on the terrace for diner was lovely. A quick stroll down to the beach and the play park near the beach was amazing for our 4 year old and obviously the beach! Lots of nice places to eat nearby. Grreat communication from Gordon too. Thank you!
We had a fabulous time in the property. Ideal for a family or a set of friends to relax and use as a base for some beautiful walks. Just a 5 minute walk to the beach and the small community of Porthtowan, the property gave us everything we wanted.

About the host
Hosted by Gordon Hathway
Gordon and his Norwegian wife Bodil have many years experience of owning, renting and staying in holiday homes in Cornwall, Dorset, Bristol, Cheltenham and also many places in Norway as part of our business as specialist travel agents. After 30 years living by the sea in West Dorset, in 2020 we moved to Cornwall to be close to both our adult children who live there with their own families. We think this is our ultimate destination.
Why they chose this property
We rented a house in Towan Valley several times before the opportunity arose to buy one. We jumped at the chance and chose one in the best possible location.
We especially like the Porthtowan area for many reasons, not least easy access in about 1.5 hours on the A30 from the end of the M5 at Exeter. It is also an ideal location for day excursions, with nearly all of west Cornwall from Padstow to Land's End to Fowey being at most an hour's drive away. The local area offers superb beaches, stunning scenery and endless coastal walks, plus the rich mining heritage which is always fascinating.
What makes this property unique
We especially like our house in Towan Valley because you so quickly feel at home there, whether the sun is shining outside or if you need somewhere cosy to curl up while a storm passes.
The furniture and wooden floors have been carefully chosen so that they are easy to keep clean and give the house some real character which is so often lacking in resort accommodation. We have used pictures and paintings by people we know and chosen soft furnishings than make it feel warm and welcoming at any time of year. We hope you will enjoy staying there as much as we do ourselves.
