Waterside holiday cottage with own mooring & fishing. 2-bedroom (Double & Twin)

Albion Cottage is a 2-bedroom (double and twin) riverside cottage right on the bank of the River Bure in the heart of Wroxham, capital of the Norfolk Broads. Free private parking and mooring, and fishing right outside the door. It is available for weeks or short breaks and is suitable for family holidays and fishing breaks. Parking for one car behind a secure barrier is included and additional car by advance agreement.

Within the exclusive Peninsula Cottage Estate with a view to the iconic Wroxham Bridge (the subject of many postcards) you have only a 5 to 10 minute walk into the centre of Wroxham with an abundance of shops, riverside restaurants and pubs, and a wide variety of take-aways including McDonalds.

So, lets look inside the cottage. The entrance hall is ideal for storing any fishing, boating or other paraphernalia. Then walk intro the open-plan ground floor with new wood laminate floor throughout, and comprising the kitchen, dining and living areas.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with new stainless steel double oven, grill and ceramic glass hob and microwave oven, and fridge etc. Roy's supermarket claims to be the "largest village supermarket in the world". The breakfast bar / dining area opens to the living room comprising 2 double sofas, 32" Freeview TV / DVD, and new fire effect electric fire, and thermostatic electric wall radiators (in all rooms). French doors open into your private South-East facing terrace trapping the Sun all day long. Ideal for summer breakfasts and evening bar-b-q's.

Brand new carpet ( for 2024 season) leads you upstairs and continues throughout both bedrooms each with TV / DVD

The two bedrooms comprise a double bedroom with wardrobe, drawers, bedside tables and 19" TV / DVD. The twin room has two full size single beds suitable for children or adults. 24" TV / DVD, wardrobe, drawers and bedside table. The shower room has cubicle shower, heated towel rail and wash basin and w.c.

All electric is included, and we provide towels and beds made up for your arrival.

Wherry and Albion cottages can be booked individually or together for a larger group or family. They are neighbours in the perfect position within the Peninsula Cottages to enjoy river and garden views from both front and back, and both have views along the river to the iconic Wroxham Bridge. With their own private mooring (45ft x 12ft) right outside the double-glazed French doors you can hire a day or picnic boat for a few days, or even bring your own boat. Wake up to the gentle sound of the river wildlife and enjoy breakfast sitting on your private raised, covered South-East facing private terrace overlooking the river. A sun-trap in the morning and offering shade in the evening. We have just installed (for 2020) a 3m x 2.5m wind out awning to protect you from the rain or Sun while you enjoy a bar-b-q at your own private picnic table, or your bistro table for 2. Free parking for 1 car / cottage in private parking space behind a secure automatic barrier, and additional free parking for up to 2 more cars by prior arrangement. You can park by a well-lit flat, level covered walkway just a few steps from your front door. 4 EV charging points are available in our car park.

A 5 minute walk around the sightseeing tour boats brings you to Wroxham Bridge, from which you can look back to your cottage across the river. Book your sightseeing boat tour here, or take a day boat for a self-drive trip around Wroxham and Wroxham Broad, or go down river to Horning to stop for a riverside pub lunch or picnic. Stay in Wroxham and visit the many riverside pubs, restaurants and cafes, or pick up a takeaway or visit the local supermarket for your self-catering needs. Roy's supermarket claims to be the "largest village supermarket in the World". Visit the gift and souvenir shops. Go on the Bure Valley Steam Railway for a nostalgic trip to Aylsham. When you've had enough, back to the cottage to sit outside and simply watch the entertainment of all the boats passing by and trying to negotiate the notoriously low bridge. As the evening comes in enjoy the view of the lights on the opposite river bank glistening off the water.

Don't forget, you're home-from-home. So sit back and watch your favourite programmes on your 32' TV / DVD (Freeview). At the end of the day enjoy a nice shower in the recently (2020 season) refurbished bathroom. Albion bathroom was refurbished in Nov 2019 to have a walk-in cubicle shower and new white pedestal basin and w.c. (see photos for how it looks now.). All rooms have thermostatically controlled wall-mounted electric heaters, and living room has a brand new remote controlled thermostatic electric coal-effect fire. All hot water and electric is now included in the price. Beds will be made up with clean linen for your arrival, and each guest is provided with a hand and bath towel.

The spacious entrance porch / cloakroom is ideal for storing wet fishing tackle or boating gear.
The cottages are available individually but are ideal to be booked together for a larger family or group up to 8 people, connected only by the outside covered porch between the front

The location was excellent with great river views and access ,the house was warm and pleasant
The Down stairs was good , modern and clean except for the kitchen blind which was very stained/dirty ! The upstairs was fine with a modern bathroom accept the carpets were old, dirty and had a couple of holes in them - this is a shame .

Unique location
Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday in a great location ideal for a fishing holiday but also for enjoying the river and amenities of Wroxham. Although the cottage has some new additions such as an awning over the patio, much of it is rather tired and in need of refurbishing having for example mismatched furniture, hole in landing carpet , broken bin in kitchen but nevertheless, comfortable bed, plenty of white fluffy towels and plentiful hot water. Not luxury but worth the 4 star rating.

About the host

I first holidayed on the Norfolk Broads as a teenager in the 1970's and have loved it ever since. we started hiring boats to explore the magical waterways, and discovered Wroxham. We bought Wherry Cottage in 2007 as a family holiday home because we believed it had the best location and views on the whole of the Norfolk Broads. We decided to let it out for families and fishing friends, and in 2015 bought the mooring right outside the door.

Why they chose this property

Albion and Wherry cottages enjoy the best position and views of the whole of the Norfolk Broads. Having owned the neighbouring cottage for 9 years we bought this cottage to provide a larger accommodation by combining the two for larger families and groups. This has proved hugely successful.
