Catch up with good friends
Every year 4 friends of over 40years catch up. We decided we wanted to be near Barnard Castle. The cottage was surrounded by lovely countryside and locals were very friendly. The cottage was basic and clean and suited our requirements and we had a lovely weekend.

Beautiful place, with some minor issues
Initially we were really excited the views the property made for the perfect weekend getaway for our 4th anniversary. On arriving I'd peered into the twin single room which was well prepared with towels however I'd noticed quite a lot of flies on the bed and buzzing on the window,. I did think well it's the countryside. The cottage was amazing and for the most part perfect. So the little issues over the stay no hoover, mop or brush as we also brought our dog these would of been helpful to keep the place tidy and if we had stayed longer this may had been a problem. The hot tub was wow honestly this was incredible. We couldn't get the Firepit to stay lit which killed the mood as we sat in the evening. The worst issue was the last night after cooking food I'd cleared up and went to put rubbish in the bin out side only to be what I can describe as an explosion of maggots everywhere on the bins floor and walls. We flushed as many away as possible with the sink bowl but couldn't find any bleach or detergent. This looks like previous visitors had waste McDonalds or even just general waste but it wasn't a pleasant experience at that point. Which might explain the large amount flies. It's such a shame as take all that away this was for me an amazing place in all fairness just small put offs that marred the stay. Hopefully if we try again in the future we can communicate our concerns beforehand.
