The Stables has continued to be lovingly maintained and is looking forward to welcoming guests back to this beautiful corner of the Yorkshire Wolds.
The Barn (11061135) and The Stables (11028227) are an L-shaped, semi-detached barn conversion set in the picturesque village of Kilham, high on the rolling Yorkshire Wolds.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, quiet country lanes and scenic walking and cycling routes, Kilham offers a peaceful escape in a traditional East Yorkshire village. Yet, despite its tranquil rural setting, the properties are ideally placed for exploring the very best of the region, with the Yorkshire coastline, historic houses, family attractions and the city of York all within easy reach.
Formerly part of the village farms, both properties have been renovated to a very good standard and offer spacious, bright accommodation, with huge glass windows running along the full length of the buildings and overlooking a private garden beautifully screened by mature trees and shrubs.
All bedrooms have been tastefully decorated and feature deep, comfortable mattresses to help ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. The properties provide an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and families looking to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds while remaining within easy reach of the East Yorkshire coast.
The Stables offers a spacious open-plan living area with an exposed beamed ceiling and a large fireplace housing a wood burner, with a farmhouse table & chairs between the living area and kitchen. There are two double bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with twin single beds, which can be zipped together to form a double bed on request, there is also a Z-bed available on request for a 5th guest, a 6th guest allowance can be made for an infant/baby sleeping in a crib/ with parent. The bathroom features a shower over a sunken bath with a handrail.
Please note that, although The Stables is situated on one level, there are several steps within and around the property. There is one step to the entrance, two steps up to the bedrooms and one step down to the kitchen.
An open wooden staircase leads from the living area to an unused mezzanine with limited headroom. Due to the open design of the staircase, access to the mezzanine is not considered suitable for young children, and guests are advised against allowing children to use the staircase. The mezzanine is therefore currently unfurnished and is not used as accommodation. A stair gate is fitted at the bottom of the staircase to restrict access.
Outside, both properties have their own private patio area with seating, providing an ideal spot for enjoying an early breakfast or alfresco dining on a summer evening.
The beautiful shared cottage garden enjoys sunshine for much of the day and is beautifully screened by mature trees and shrubs, creating a peaceful and private setting. While the owner currently occupies The Barn, the grassed garden will be available for the sole use of guests staying at The Stables.
Just a short walk from The Stables and The Barn is the village pub, offering good food, real ale and a warm Yorkshire welcome. A convenience shop is also available nearby at the local garage, as well as a very popular children’s play park!
The surrounding country lanes provide access to a network of public footpaths and bridleways, criss-crossing the rolling Yorkshire Wolds countryside and limestone hills. The historic market town of Driffield is just a short drive away and offers independent shops, tearooms, restaurants and a weekly market.
The area is rich in history and heritage, with stately homes and gardens including Sewerby Hall, Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall, Burton Constable Hall and Castle Howard all within easy reach.
The East Yorkshire coast is also close by, with the seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington, Hornsea and Filey offering beaches, promenades, traditional fish and chips, ice creams and seaside amusements. The dramatic chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs offer spectacular coastal views and are a must for nature lovers.
For a fun-filled family day out, Alpamare water park in Scarborough is a popular attraction, while the historic city of York is less than an hour away by car.
Whether you are looking for peaceful countryside walks, days beside the sea, historic houses, family attractions or simply a relaxing break in a beautiful Yorkshire village, Kilham makes an ideal base for exploring the best of East Yorkshire and beyond.
With private parking and a bike store available on request, the properties are also perfectly placed for guests attending the many classic car shows held throughout the region.
