It’s great to know the location worked well for exploring the nearby towns and beaches, and we really appreciate your kind words about the hosting.
We’re very glad you enjoyed your stay and would be happy to welcome you back.
Great location, we stayed for May half term in the beautiful heatwave. Kitchen well equipped. We brought our own BBQ with us to stay but could definitely benefit from one of its own. Poppit sands is reasonably close and a great beach we could have been abroad!

Dear Abigail,
Thank you so much for the lovely review! We are absolutely thrilled that you got to enjoy that beautiful May half-term heatwave with us—when the weather is that good, Poppit Sands truly does feel like a tropical holiday abroad!
It is wonderful to hear that you found the kitchen well-equipped and enjoyed the location. Regarding the BBQ: you actually made a great point! For future reference (or for any other guests reading this), we do have BBQs available for our guests to borrow—they are stored right in the laundry room.
Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we would love to welcome you back the next time you need a beach getaway!
Warm regards,
Rob, Troedyrhiw Holiday Cottages
If you want a relaxing, get away from it all holiday this is where you need to be , so quiet all you can hear are the birds . We stayed in the Stables a beautiful converted barn that sleeps 6 . Well equipped with everything you could need for your holiday . It has a large deck at the back which over looks paddocks and woodland and is a wonderful place to eat on sunny days . Also safe for the dog . Robert , the owner was very friendly and extremely helpful . We couldn’t have asked for more ! Even though we were surrounded by countryside it was only three miles from Cardigan a vibrant town with plenty of shops and restaurants. We cannot wait to stay here again.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted that you found The Stables such a relaxing place to switch off, with only the birds for company. It’s great to hear the barn conversion worked well for your group and that you had everything you needed for a comfortable stay.
We’re really pleased you enjoyed the large deck and the views over the paddocks and woodland — it’s a lovely spot on sunny days — and glad your dog felt safe and at home too. Your kind words about the hosting mean a lot.
Even though we’re tucked away in the countryside, the short distance to Cardigan is a real bonus, so it’s great to know you made the most of the shops and restaurants there.
We’re thrilled you’re already looking forward to returning, and we’d be very happy to welcome you back again.
About the host
Hosted by Robert Silcox
We are passionate about West Wales, country life, and sharing the magic of this beautiful wooded valley with our guests. For us, hosting isn’t just about providing a place to stay—it’s about creating an unforgettable, five-star "home away from home" experience where families and couples can truly unwind.
Transforming these historic farm buildings into cozy, character-filled holiday cottages has been a labor of love. We enjoy blending traditional Welsh heritage—like original stone walls and slate features—with modern comforts, local artwork, and superfast Wi-Fi, ensuring our guests have everything they need for a relaxing escape.
What we love most about being hosts is seeing people reconnect with nature and simpler pleasures. Whether it's watching children discover the stream and our dedicated play area, or seeing guests return from a day at Cardigan Bay excited after spotting dolphins and seals, it is incredibly rewarding.
We live on-site and love managing the smallholding. When we aren't helping guests, you’ll usually find us tending to the grounds or looking after our resident animals. We invite you to explore the acreage and say hello to Blossom (our Shetland pony), our sheep, Kune Kune pigs, and our friendly chickens.
We are always happy to share our favorite local recommendations—from secret coastal paths to the best riverside dining in Cardigan. We love welcoming new and returning faces to our little slice of paradise!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this specific corner of West Wales because it offers a rare, unspoiled slice of paradise where the countryside meets the sea. Tucked into a quiet, wooded valley right on the border of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Carmarthenshire, it feels like a hidden sanctuary—yet it is incredibly connected to everything that makes Wales magical.
The scene here is breathtakingly peaceful. On any given day, you can step out of The Stables and hear nothing but the gentle babbling of our valley stream and the rustle of the trees. Drive just four miles down the road, and you are standing on dramatic coastal cliffs overlooking the sweeping blue waters of Cardigan Bay.
What we enjoy most about this area—and what keeps our guests returning year after year—is the sheer variety of ways to slow down and reconnect:
The Wildlife & Coastlines: The local Blue Flag beaches are spectacular. Walking along the coast path is a world-class experience, made even more magical by the resident Atlantic grey seals and the famous bottlenose dolphins that frequently put on a show in the bay.
The Living History: Just minutes away is the historic port town of Cardigan. We love walking its ancient streets and visiting the beautifully restored Cardigan Castle—the historic site of the very first Welsh Eisteddfod back in 1176. The area retains a wonderfully authentic, unspoiled essence of Welshness that you can feel in the independent shops, local artwork, and welcoming atmosphere.
A Rich Food Culture: From grabbing local seafood overlooking the River Teifi to exploring the nearby market towns of Newcastle Emlyn and Aberaeron, there is an incredible independent food and artisan culture right on our doorstep.
Whether you want to hike the mythical Preseli Mountains, build sandcastles with the family, or simply relax on the large private decking of The Stables with a good book, this area offers a slower, richer pace of life. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave.
What makes this property unique
What truly sets The Stables apart is the magical blend of five-star modern luxury, authentic Welsh history, and an immersive countryside experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
Here are the three things our guests fall in love with:
An Expansive Private Decking: Unlike many traditional stone cottages that can feel a bit enclosed, The Stables boasts a massive, elevated private decking area. It acts as an outdoor living room where you can dine al fresco, enjoy a glass of wine, and listen to the sounds of the stream and birds in absolute privacy.
Our Friendly Resident Farm Animals: We aren't just a place to sleep—we are an experience. Guests of all ages absolutely love exploring our idyllic grounds to meet Blossom (our Shetland pony), our Kune Kune pigs, Ryeland sheep, and free-range chickens. You can even buy fresh farm eggs directly from us for breakfast!
A Historic, Five-Star Sanctuary: The Stables is a sympathetic, high-end conversion of an original farm building tucked away at the very end of a peaceful, no-through country lane in a wooded valley. You get the romantic charm of high ceilings and local artwork alongside modern must-haves like superfast Wi-Fi, a dishwasher, and dedicated off-road parking.
You are entirely surrounded by rural tranquility, yet you are only 4 miles from the vibrant, historic culinary scene of Cardigan and just minutes from the breathtaking beaches and dolphin-spotting hot spots of Cardigan Bay. It is the ultimate "best of both worlds" Welsh escape.
