About this property
5 bedroom accommodation in Kirkcudbright
Wow! A stunning house in the heart of the town with views over the Harbour, the perfect luxury getaway.. Auchengool House oozes charm and sophistication from the moment you step through the door. Set in the heart of the vibrant and lively town of Kirkcudbright on the Banks of the River Dee, Auchengool House is a very special place for a group of friends or family to meet up and enjoy a memorable holiday.
A professional, commercial interior designer has been commissioned to create a stunning ambience at Auchengool House which really succeeds in echoing the charm and artistry of Kirkcudbright. From the wonderful sitting room with comfy sofas and log burner, beautiful dining room and chic kitchen/dining room to the bathroom with antique roll top bath and bedrooms with sumptuous beds, feature headboards and crisp white linen with beautifully colour co-ordinated fabrics and cushions you are guaranteed a luxurious stay. Complimenting the interior of Auchengool House is a charming private rear garden with the remains of the 16th century MacLellan Castle as your backdrop, where you can enjoy dining al-fresco or just sit and relax in the bubbling hot tub, perfect after a day exploring the stunning area. Since the late 19th century, Kirkcudbright has been renowned as an artists’ colony, with artists such as Jessie M King, E A Hornel and Charles Oppenheimer making it their home.
Today it is known as “The Artists’ Town” of Dumfries and Galloway, and in 2018 the Kirkcudbright Galleries opened, which showcases world class art as well as the work of the local artists. This lovely town on the Estuary, still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. Stroll through the town and visit the famous Broughton House, once home of E. A. Hornel or experience the Arts and Crafts Trail. Throughout the year the town hosts a diverse range of annual events from Farmers’ Markets, Country Fair, the Jazz Festival, Festival of Light, the Riding of the Marches and of course the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. With some lovely little shops dotted around the town and fabulous places to eat the town is an ideal location to base yourself while exploring this delightful area. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium a state-of-the-art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door!
There are also many varied and interesting walks which you can take from the town, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone. Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust for Scotland). Close to the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to 5 of the 7 Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers.. 1 step to entrance.
