Cliffside Cosy Cottage by Cowes Beach: 1x KING-Size Double BR & a Twin/Kids BR
Cliffside is a cosy cottage right by Cowes Beach (ten seconds walk) with a traditional English country cottage garden with sea view.
A Very large master king-size double bedroom with sink and armchair. The master bedroom features a bolt lock, allowing it to be locked from the inside. Armchair.
A Twin/Children's bedroom is made available when you book for 3 or 4 guests. This is officially a Children's bedroom, but has had more adults stay in it than children; Sailors, Walkers, Cyclists etc & other adults, including many elderly, but it's probably not ideal for very elderly or infirm guests staying for many nights. I'm 6 ft 2" and weigh 16 stone and have spent many a comfortable night in them.
ALL bedrooms & the main bathroom have a garden and sea view.
Inflatable Canoe is available too (use at your own risk, but it's only 2 years old and has 2 lifejackets).
The Patio has a Table that can easily fit 4 people around it, a Chiminea and a small BBQ. There are 6 director chairs for the patio table in total, so you can fit more if you want. There are also 2 sun beds and 2 beach/garden seats/chairs in the potting shed for garden or beach sunbathing.
It's exactly a 17-minute walk from the RedJet high-speed ferry terminal. Just walk along the high street for 5 minutes, then along the parade, then down the beach, then you're here :)
The space:
Traditional English country cottage with a lovely garden with views down to the beach and the sea (Solent).
Upstairs:
Three bedrooms
- Very large Master Double Bedroom with a KING-SIZE bed for you, with its own sink and is also adjacent to your exclusive bathroom, so it's pretty much an 'en-suite'. The bedroom includes a Mini Kettle for Tea and Coffee. Four Towels. Hairdryer. The bolt lock is lockable from the inside. It also has an armchair so you can sit at the window and look down over the garden to the beach. You can see the beach and the sea from your pillows too :).
- One smaller bedroom/study perfect for up to 2 children, adolescents, sailors, walkers, cyclists, or any adults happy with smaller single beds, but probably not very elderly or infirm people for many nights, even though many elderly guests have happily stayed in them and I'm 6 ft 2" and weigh 16 stone and in my mid 50s and have spent many a comfortable night in them.
- One double bedroom is mine since I live here normally, BUT I do vacate for VRBO guests who want the place to themselves. Just let me know a week or more before your arrival so I can plan accordingly.
- Bathroom for your exclusive use, with a modern, spacious shower enclosed with a screen (no bath). Sink, W.C., Airing/Drying Cupboard, Ironing board and iron. This bathroom is next door to the master bedroom, and since you have exclusive use, it's pretty much 'en-suite'.
Ground floor:
- Kitchen - Brand new kitchen with four induction hobs plus one separate big induction hob, brand new oven and a separate combined microwave/oven unit. Kettle, toaster, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine (Tumble dryer is in the guest bathroom cupboard).
- Dining room with 4 chairs, a big sofa, and a chaise longue. More chairs (fold-ups) are available upon request if you want to entertain more people than are in your main group.
- Bathroom Downstairs (brand new Feb23): Shower, W.C & Sink.
- Living Room with wood-burning stove and fireplace, 3 sofas and TV.
Guest access:
This listing is officially for the Master Bedroom, Bathrooms, Dining room, Kitchen, Garden & Patio area & all listed amenities, and if you book 1 or 2 additional guests (3 and/or 4 guests in total), then the children's room is made available too.
Other things to note: If you're happy with me staying in the house during your stay, then the dining room will be laid for breakfast every morning with Muesli & Corn Flakes, Milk & Orange Juice, Butter etc is in the kitchen fridge & Croissants in the bread bin, Bread in the freezer's bottom drawer. If not, then that set-up will be for just your first night since I won't be around to relay the table, etc., etc. There's also a mini-kettle in the master bedroom with two mugs and tea bags, sugar, etc.
If you're interested in booking Cliffside for a larger group (5 or 6 guests) then message me to discuss options.
********** NEW FOR 2023 **********
- New! Modern, stylish kitchen with all facilities.
- New! The downstairs corridor has been brought to the front of the house (it was at the back), so there's more light & warmth at the front of the house into the kitchen and dining room, and a more natural flowing corridor from the front doorway into the hall, then kitchen and then onto the dining room.
- New! Water system, much more efficient than before, with brand new boiler & water tank/cylinder and pipes, so water is now always hot & heating heats up fast.
- New! Downstairs bathroom, which means the main upstairs bathroom adjacent to the master bedroom is now essentially 'en-suite' for the sole use of guests.
- New! Gravel Pathway.
- Newly! Decorated Master Bedroom & Dining Room & misc improvements & adjustments, such as making the master bedroom lockable from the inside
- New! Carpets on the stairs & the upstairs hall/corridor (downstairs carpets have all been machine cleaned).
- New! The garden patio wall has been rebuilt and re-painted & the patio paving stones have been pressure-washed clean.
- New! New smoke & CO2 alarms have been fitted as well as a full gas safety inspection, resulting in achieving the CP12 Gas Safety Certification.
*********CAR FERRY DISCOUNTS / VOUCHERS**********
I have some Red Funnel Car Ferry Discount codes/vouchers (20% off) available for guests who book 3 or more nights. Just send me a message after you have booked to stay here, requesting discount codes, and I'll reply with the code asap.
********* Available For Hire for a Filming **********
Cliffside is available for hire as a filming venue/location! It has already been used as a filming location for the TV program 'Saving Lives At Sea'. Some of the brave volunteers from the local RNLI were interviewed in the dining room about the rescues they have been involved in. Message me to discuss options and availability.

We were very happy with all communication with the host prior and during our stay, house and proximity to beach and town was amazing and the use of Dans carport was an unexpected bonus so I didn’t need to find on street parking

The house is beautiful and decorated very artistically. The beach is close enough to walk to with a cup of tea. The fire was warm and inviting and Dan, who lives at the property, was very hospitable and generous. . I enjoyed my stay very much and would recommend.

The Cottage was very clean and tidy and Dan the host was very welcoming.
A lovely spacious house. Very convenient to the town and sea front. Dan was a brilliant host and provided us with loads of provisions. Also gave a useful tour of the house and even lit the log fire for us on arrival. We had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely come again.

We had an excellent stay in Dan’s home. He provided excellent suggestions for places to eat and sites to see. The bed was super comfortable and the area was quiet which allowed for superb sleep. Would stay here again.

Dan was a great host and very attentive. He runs it as a b and b or you cane have the place to yourself. House was lovely, good amenities, clean and quiet. Lots of food basics provided free for use such as coffee, milk, butter; bread etc. Cosy lounge with log burner, lovely gardens and great location. Shame I was only staying for work as I would have liked to have stayed and relaxed there! Would definitely book again. Can’t fault the experience. Great place.

Our stay for three nights was most enjoyable. Dan made us very welcome and his hospitality and friendliness were top notch. The location suited our needs for the Red Funnel ferry, bars and facilities brilliantly. Many thanks Dan for all your help.

Thanks so much for the great review Fiona! It was an absolute pleasure to have you as guests, and perfect guests at that! You left the place in top condition and are welcome back any time of course :)
The property was clean and within distance of everything worth visiting (well it is the IOW so distance is no problem!)Dan the host was exceptional and made sure that everything was just so. It was a huge cottage for one person but that made it so much better, I could travel between rooms and felt that I had gone on a journey. Absolutely everything was there, even a tub of Meds for those small accidents. Faultless Dan and I thank you
The kindest and most hospitable of hosts. Dan was like a long lost friend and nothing was too much trouble for him. Pour llast evening was served over a bottle or two of wine and the stories flowed with inexplicable shared experiences.
We will definitely be staying in touch.
We will most certainly be recommending a stay here.
Thank you Dan for everything.

Aww thanks for the lovely review Colin! It was an absolute pleasure to host you both, you were the perfect guests and are of course welcome back anytime. You left your English Heritage guidebook and car stickers, text me your address and I'll pop it in the post. Have a great weekend and see you on North Island sometime. X
We spent 4 great days at Dan's who was so welcoming and friendly.
The bedroom is very big and the bed is so comfy.
Dans provides some cereals, croissants, orange juice and hot drinks every morning.
Another perk was that we could use the kitchen and cook our meals, or take an already prepared salad on the table outside to enjoy the sun in the garden.
Cherry on the cake: Dan has got a kayak we used to paddle along the coast which was fun.
We practised our English over a drink on our last night.
Dans the perfect host, very accommodating and a relaxed atmosphere. His guest room is wonderful and bright. Love the big windows for gazing out with my coffee in the morning and listening to the birds.
Just a short walk down the parade “paved path” along the shoreline to town. Sailors this is the spot for you. Quaint town with plenty of Shops and Pubs.
Loving it. Be sure to bring you walking shoes. It was a great choice.
The photos do not do this beautiful property justice. As an old house, it was very cool, which was much needed in the hot weather. Very quiet, with birds chirping above. A 1-2 minute walk to the beach or, for shade, a big green with mature trees straight opposite the property. The garden is very much cottage style, with a wood burner for the late evenings. Dan, the host, was just wonderful and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. He gave great advice on where to eat and beaches to visit. Thanks to Dan and his home, I would say our trip to the island has been the most relaxing one yet.

Aww thankyou SO much, Sammy & Ali, for your lovely review and also for being such great guests. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and you're welcome back anytime. Thanks also for going above and beyond, leaving the house in such perfect condition, which made the changeover an absolute breeze, which was very much appreciated on the hottest day of the year. I hope Alis fathers ok, and sorry you had to leave earlier than expected. You must come back another time, you are the perfect guests. I hope you have a good rest of the summer.
I cannot rate Dan and his wonderful cottage highly enough. Characterful, cosy, delightfully and tastefully decorated and so homely, it was just wonderful to arrive to and we didn't want to leave! Amazing situation so close to the centre of Cowes yet so quiet and peacefully tucked away with a gorgeous garden and overlooking the beach. Dan's communication and help prior to booking and arriving was outstanding and his attention to detail and little touches were simply the best we have ever experienced in any holiday property. A table laid for breakfast, stove ready to be lit and it was all so clean and tidy and welcoming.
Many many thanks and we hope to be back!
