About this property

Unique ISLAND Living off the grid -Waterfront cottage

Do you like camping but like a little more comfort than what a tent can offer? Would you like to unplug and tune out? Then this is the place for you. Wake up to the sounds of Lobster boats, Osprey, Bald Eagles, Gulls, Terns, Harbor seals, Great Blue Herons, and Loons. Eat dinner on the deck overlooking the bay with spectacular western views of the sunset. These are just a few of the amazing sights and sounds you will experience while “glamping” in this cozy waterfront cottage. This is an island: no car access, no ferry (private boat only), or stores.
The cottage has an open concept living/dining/kitchen area with woodstove (wood is provided). Cathedral ceilings fill the space with plenty of natural daylight. It has 2 bedrooms: Master with Queen bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds. All bedding is provided. There is one bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Bath towels, toilet paper as well as bath soap and shampoo will be provided. The kitchen has a full size stove and refrigerator (both fueled by propane). All dishes, pots and pans as well as Paper towels, sugar and basic spices are provided. There is a large wrap around deck with canopy and seating for outdoor meals. Outdoor grill and lobster cooker w/propane also provided.
Bring your own boat, kayak/s or sailing craft. Whether you have your own boat or not, the owners will arrange to take you across on checkin/check out day. We will have extra adult life jackets available if needed. However, if you have children in your party they must have Coast Guard approved properly fitted life jackets.
If you trailer your own boat, there is a boat launch ramp in the Harbor that you can use. For an extra fee, 2 deep water moorings -one on the island and one in the harbor are available for off island junkets ($25/day for one or $150/week) or $35/day for both or $210/week) also the use of a small tender is available ($15/day or $100/week-on the island). If you do not have a boat we can provide transportation if we are in residence at our other cottage or provide a listing of local places that rent kayaks.
You will need to plan your meals for your stay and bring your groceries with you. Be sure to bring reusable bags or waterproof containers for groceries. Maine no longer offers plastic bags and paper bags are useless around the water
Since the cottage is located in the woods, with no public utilities, there is no smoking allowed anywhere on the property.
All electricity (Lights only) is Solar (12 volt only). There is a small inverter for limited use of the stereo, and other small devices for limited periods of time. Please bring a (cigarette lighter type or usb) car charger for your cell phone and other mobile devices or computer. You can bring your own hotspot.
The dock is shared with one other home, which is where the owners stay.
Swimming can be done from the private dock or almost any place along the shore, and there is a right of way access to a small beach a short walk from the cottage.
Visit the Old Quarry or take a walk to the island cemetery. There are plenty of walking trails on the island (a map will be provided). Island hopping is one of our favorite things to do, just be respectful of the environment and any private homes.
The Town of Friendship is ideally located under an hour from many local attractions-Pemaquid Lighthouse, Port Clyde and Monhegan Island. It is a short drive to Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset, just to name a few…
This is the perfect place to sit back, unwind, unplug and get away from all the distractions of everyday life. Great for families or couples looking to get away from it all!

I am the mother of 4 grown children and Grandmother of 8. I am married to my wonderful husband of 41 years. I live and work in the Boston area.

Why they chose this property

Five generations of my family have been coming to Friendship to vacation in the village or on the island since the early 1900s. The original property consisted of 35 acres. It was subdivided in the early 60s into 5 lots. Our immediate family owns 15 acres (2 lots) and 2 cottages. Both cottages were designed and hand built by family members (it takes a village) starting in the early 1950s. This cottage was built over a few summers from 1992-1995.

What makes this property unique

This is a little bit of off grid living made in heaven! Spend your days at the cottage sitting on the deck as you take in the breathtaking view and watch the lobster boats as they haul in their catch. Take long walks or go explore surrounding islands in a kayak or take a long nap. On a foggy day you may want to sit in front of the woodstove reading a book or play a game of cards.
This cottage is the perfect place to sit back, unwind and unplug from all the distractions of everyday life so you can focus on relaxing and enjoying your vacation.
