About this property

Hut 37 at Cultybraggan Camp

Every building tells a story and this one certainly has a rich history. Hut 37 is one of five beautifully modernised Nissen huts at the former Cultybraggan Prisoner of War Camp, set just outside the picturesque village of Comrie in Perthshire.

Originally constructed during the Second World War, Nissen huts were widely used in Prisoner of War camps across Britain. Although designed as temporary structures, Cultybraggan Camp continued in use for more than 70 years as a Ministry of Defence training centre. Today, it is the last remaining Prisoner of War Camp in Scotland and has been recognised by Historic Scotland as a unique heritage asset of international value.

Now owned by Comrie Development Trust, the camp has been carefully preserved and thoughtfully reimagined. Five huts have been transformed into spacious, sustainable self catering accommodation, offering a distinctive stay in the Perthshire countryside.

Hut 37 retains its iconic curved exterior, complete with a bright red roof, crisp white frontage and black trim, standing out against the surrounding Aberuchill Hills. Inside, the space has been fully renovated to create a bright and welcoming open plan living area.

Natural light enhances the wooden floors, soft cream walls and modern furnishings, creating a calm and spacious feel. The open plan layout includes a fully equipped kitchenette, dining table seating four, and comfortable seating with a double sofa bed and television.

The separate bedroom features a king size bed, complemented by a modern shower room finished to a high standard.

This hut accepts one well behaved dog. Cultybraggan Camp kindly requests that dogs are kept on a lead at all times while on site and are not permitted on sofas or beds.

Amazing accommodation

Such amazing accommodation and location. Being able to stay in a historic place and in one of the actual huts that were in use during the time is so special. I would not stay anywhere else. The camp is quiet, perfect for quiet stay. The camp is the perfect location if you are travelling with a dog, so much space to walk. The team are so helpful in every way.

Excellent stay again

Always clean and tidy and everything that you need Communication for lock box code, if no wifi available you can't get the code now. I would prefer going back to the 'text' system so I have it when I need it.

Beautiful location

Quirky accommodation steeped in history.beautifully restored. Great set up A lovely wee museum and cafe on site. WiFi connection was not working. But all well we had our quiz books! Better advertisement. Window signs and a signs on entrance to the camp. As visitors said they didn't know they could stay. ? a piece of netting or something similar as visitors walk right up to your window to look in. Also advised from the on site handyman!

Weekend at Cultybraggab

We had a fantastic weekend at Cultybraggan Camp. The nissen hut was very clean & spacious and was equipped with just about everything you could think of from kitchen scales, tupperware and measuring spoons to plenty of bedding & towels. The beds were comfortable, plenty of sockets, wifi was top quality and the place was very cosy with the extra heaters. Lovely area, great walk in the nearby community woodland. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Cosy warm hut in historical setting

We had lived in Comrie for two years in the 1980s but then Cultybraggan was still under military control. We had driven past many times but it was great to be able to stay there and walk around the former camp. The hut was so warm - bear in mind that temperatures dropped to -5C overnight and we were totally cosy. We weren't able to drive for three days because of the snow but there is a lovely walk from the camp along the river into the village of Comrie. The rooms were bigger than we expected.and we had all the facilities we could want. The oven took a bit of getting used to being combination microwave/convection oven. All in all we had a great time and our dog Murphy loved playing in the snow on the field.. Thank you.

My stay

The hut was very clean and well stocked everything you could possibly need was there bedding was great heating great parking was really close my only disappointment was we didn’t get into the museum or the bunker which would have made the weekend perfect I know it’s out of season but still I think maybe open the museum for a couple of hours there was quiet a few guests when we were there so I think it would be worth while opening everything up cafe was amazing I know it’s work in progress so I will prob visit again in a couple of years just to see the diff there is so much that can be done with the site and I wish you all the success poss

Culture Braggan weekend

Check-in easy kitchen facilities had everything you needed. Wi-fi didn’t use so can’t comment. Own transport. Lovely little cafe on site did really good breakfast and lots of choices for other foods . Very pleasant people. Lovely place to stay so quiet and peaceful very friendly staff especially in the museum. They were very friendly and knowledgeable even though they were volunteers. We stayed in hut 37 key box bit fiddly not good for older people if there eye sight not good or arthritic fingers. I wouldn’t say the 66 you get charged for the cleaning is spotless found a few bit of fluff and hairs with furniture not being moved didn’t take photos but still think it’s a lot of money for cleaning. Shower, ,beds and rest of hut we were satisfied with. Furniture in living room area wasn’t comfiest glad didn’t have to sleep on sofa bed but still enjoyed our stay in something different and quirky we would stay again. Only complaint my husband had was the television and its channels. He couldn’t get his head around why couldn’t get normal channels that we know but probably being where we were it’s different but wasn’t big issue. I hope this won’t put anyone of booking this unusual type of accommodation. It was a bit pricey at 152 per night plus cleaning fee but it’s a one off. Thank you for our lovely and different experience.
