After a year's worth of renovations due to a devastating flood resulting from a frozen pipe, we're *almost* ready to welcome guests back to 27 Sparrow. We thank our long-time guests for keeping tabs and we're so grateful for your patience. Summer of 2023 brings so many great improvements, including a reconfigured living room, new windows and doors, new furniture, and a whole new kitchen with a full-sized stove and dishwasher! We are so excited to share these changes with you. For for frequent guests, no more drawers that mysteriously open in the night! No more kitchen cabinets that throw things out onto the counter, but still the same rustic camp with direct lake access you've come to appreciate. We're still waiting on countertops, which we expect to be installed by the end of May, but wanted to make our place available for the summer season 2023.
Welcome to our lakeside camp in the heart of Central Maine! Located on the shores of Big Indian Lake in St. Albans, ME, our home has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a large living room, and a newly remodeled kitchen. We've just completed tons of upgrades to take advantage of this quite, comfortable spot to enjoy a fantastic view in a great location for fishing, boating, or just relaxing and listening to the loons call.
There are two bedrooms upstairs; one has a queen-sized bed with a large picture window facing the lake, the other has twin bunk beds with a lake-facing balcony. The third bedroom is downstairs and has a queen-sized bed with a sliding door right out onto the deck.
If you're interested in fishing, the lake is home to bass, perch, bluegill, and pickerel all catchable from shore or off our dock. There is also a canoe and kayaks available for use if you'd like to get out onto the lake.
The camp is about 45 minutes from Bangor, 1 hour and 45 minutes from Portland, and 2 hours from Bar Harbor.

From booking, to arriving, and checking out everything was easy! Great communication and gorgeous spot! So nice and quiet, all the amenities, clean and easy to find. We are even discussing coming back next year already.
Could not have been happier with our stay! The house was beautiful, clean and had all the amenities one needs! Cant wait to stay there again next year!
This house sits perfectly within the trees and right on the lake. It was quiet and relaxing, exactly what we needed. Our kids and dog enjoyed playing in the water, fishing, and kayaking. The house is very clean and spacious and comes with all the amenities. Highly recommend this house and location!
It is a sweet little spot on a peaceful pond. The camp is loaded with everything you need, and then some. Everyone from ages 13 to 70 had a blast. And the loon serenades put it over the top.
It was a lovely camp with a great view! When considering renting 27 Sparrow I missed the part where it said no air conditioning. Thankfully we had cool weather so it was not an issue. That would be the only reason we would hesitate to book mid summer. Everything else was fantastic! It's a very special property.
We had an absolutely wonderful week here. We are a family of 5 with 3 young kids. The house was completely family friendly—no big breakables, booster seat/high chair, pack and play, even kids plates and silverware! We really enjoyed using the 2 kids and adult kayaks, paddle boat and even the canoe. It was so nice to not have the hassle of bringing our own kayaks. I even brought the kids life jackets just in case—but our kids liked the selection at the house better. Our kids caught dozens of fish, even a large mouthed bass right off the dock. The space inside is very well updated with a full size gas range, dishwasher, fridge and every thing you could need for cooking/baking, including cooking oil and spices. It’s on a dead end road to with minimal to no traffic and friendly neighbors surrounding. We truly had the best time here—thank you Macdonald family!
Great place to get away & enjoy time together as a family
We really enjoyed staying here for 5 nights, appreciating the beautiful views of the lake and the beginnings of autumn in Maine. The location was close enough for a day trip to Acadia National Park, a definite "must see" if you have the opportunity. The communication with the owner was clear and timely.
I felt very welcomed and comfortable. It is such a beautiful spot, and even though the neighbors aren't far, it felt very secluded and peaceful. I enjoyed cooking meals with my music playing by Alexa. And I enjoyed a couple of movie nights (after a campfire) using the smart TV. Thank you very much for sharing your family home, and giving my friend and I respite from the world!
We enjoyed our stay on Big Indian! The camp was well supplied with everything you would need! It was very clean and my kids loved fishing, boating and swimming to the floating dock! Would absolutely stay again!
Everything was perfect, and the entire family had a wonderful time. The house and property were clean, comfortable, and inviting. Though we just stayed put, the owner, Emily, had a binder full of suggestions of things to do and places of interest.
The rooms were comfortable, the dining area, kitchen, and living area were cozy and open, and allowed for everyone to do their own thing while close by.
There were plenty of things to do on the lake, and we spent a lot of time swimming, fishing, using the paddle boat, and jumping off the raft that was anchored a distance from the pier.
Overall a great experience, and though there was ample wifi and tv/media options, we found ourselves spending most of our time either outside, cooking, or working on puzzles.
Will definitely be back next year!
This is a perfect spot to run away from your everyday life. Very quiet and relaxing. Our kids (7 and 5yo) loved it, enjoyed fishing and Boardwalk in Corinna. House is great and view is absolutely amazing. The gift from the owners was a very nice touch. I definitely recommend it and I hope we well come back to this beautiful place in the near future!
Had a great long weekend in February. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. We were able to xc ski, ice fish and snowshoe. Hope to come back either during the summer or next winter
We needed a winter getaway with our 2 kids, and this camp was a nice break from reality! Very impressed with the bedrooms- they were super comfortable and very clean. The kids loved the bunk beds! Nice furniture throughout the whole camp. Very clean, well put together. The whole reservation/check in process was smooth and easy, helping to make a last minute trip well worth it and do-able.
House was very clean and well kept. Stayed here with five other friends and we were very well accommodated. Lake was beautiful. Would totally recommend!
One of the best stay you can ever have. The house, the lake the ammenities, the cleaniness, everything was top notch. We had planned to visit Acadia National Park but we liked the house so much that we spent the whole day kayaking and burning the fire in firepit. They had everything that you can think of. Very well managed property and we made lot of memories here and the kids enjoyed the time as well. Highly recommended.
This lake-side home has a beautiful view, and is nestled in a peaceful location. We had everything we needed. Boats were great, the fire pit was awesome, and we had a great time! The house is even equipped with an Amazon Echo (this was a fun touch!). The upgraded spaces in this home were pretty and had a nice rustic feel. This family has put a great deal of thought and energy into creating a hospitable stay for their guests. The kitchen, and it’s contents could use updating/replacing.
Thank you for an enjoyable stay! Would recommend.
This place was perfect for our family to spend a long weekend on the water and relaxing by the fire. Nearby apple orchard was fun, and the loons and bald eagle on the lake topped it off.

About the host
Hosted by Emily Macdonald
The camp at 27 Sparrow Drive has been in the family since the lot was purchased in 1987. Upon initial inspection of the single-wide trailer that occupied the current location of the camp, my husband, who was 10 years old at the time, declared "this place is a dump!"
He wasn't wrong, but in the last 5 years, our family has made an intentional effort to make things SO MUCH better while still retaining the cozy, rustic feel of the place. After a catastrophic flood in January 2022, we embarked on our biggest renovation yet, with a whole new kitchen, dining room, and living room.
Why they chose this property
Our camp has an absolutely amazing view of the western skyline, which makes for spectacular sunset and evenings by the fire. The location is quiet, and secluded, yet only a mile from the general store in St. Albans and 10 miles from the shopping center in Newport, ME. We're an hour and a half from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, ME.
What makes this property unique
We offer a completely newly remodeled kitchen, with new appliance including a full size gas range and dishwasher, and fridge and microwave. Your rental includes access to a canoe and kayaks with a variety of sized life jackets ranging from infant to size adult XXL.
