The owners have ensured that a home from home feel runs through all the rooms, with a separate dining room to gather round for those special family times. St Cuthbert’s Way walk can be joined from the door; a 62-mile route following the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland. Thistle Dee also sits on the Sandstone Way; a 120-mile mountain biking route. Wooler is said to be the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s Greendale’, being the gateway to the Cheviots. Ad Gefrin, a world-class visitor experience with an Anglo Saxon museum and whisky distillery is only 750 yards from the house.
Thistle Dee is only 15 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed, with a beautiful beach and plenty of shops and history. Northumberland is such a diverse and friendly county with the beautiful Heritage Coast only 15 miles to Bamburgh Castle from where you can follow the trail and take in the history, making it a lovely day trip. Holy Island Causeway is only 14 miles, where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept (check the tides). The location really is ideal for exploring in all directions of Northumberland and Scotland’s Border counties. Wooler itself has that country feeling while still having a market town buzz, combining home comforts with countryside. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer in one of the nearby pubs in the evening.
Beach 15 miles. Pub, shop and restaurant 250 yards.
