Large comfortable home with gas fireplace, 2 separate living areas, adequate kitchen, 5 updated modern bathrooms, comfortable beds. Older home with so much character. The owner was very helpful and made sure we were comfortable.

My family and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at this home. The house was a perfect fit! A large house with plenty of sleeping space, living space and a beautiful backyard with a view of the mountains. The home is over 100 years old so there is a lot of history and character but also very well maintained. The owner was very attentive and accommodating to all our needs.

Beautiful Yard. Best if the guest count is not filled to capacityI was there the last week of April for my daughter's wedding. We had 12 adults. I have stayed at many VRBO's in this price range. The outside patio was beautiful and Bill was great via text answering all my questions about irons, hair dryers. We were arriving with formal attire. What proved to be an issue was only 3 bedrooms have closets. All the guests staying there had gowns or suits. Much of the clothing had to be hung on the windows or draped over furniture. I was in the master bedroom on the 1st floor. The full length mirror was glazed over and could not be used for dressing. Many of the bedrooms had no mirrors, let alone a full length. The cottage had no closet either. The first couple staying in there the first night had to move into one of the bedrooms in the main house, due to the smell. We had contractors in our group that quickly identified the door saddle was rotten, thus allowing water run-off into the cottage. I read back in previous reviews about the cottage smell. I assumed that this would have been addressed, years later it was still a problem. The 2nd couple also complained about the musty smell and absolutely had to have windows open, and could not use AC for that reason. The 2 bedrooms off the kitchen, had older people in it. They had to take stairs to that level, the staircase had no railing. I had read a review in Sept. 2023, a guest pointed out missing railing.
Our family had a lovely stay in this beautiful home. We appreciate historic properties, and this gorgeous old Tudor provided lots of enjoyment for all of us. With an old house comes things like bedrooms without closets and sometimes journeying to a bathroom in another part of the house, but we managed all those things in a spirit of cooperation. The outdoor spaces are wonderful with gathering places and also tucked away places for the introverts to get away. Bill is a communicative and attentive host. I highly recommend this house!!

This is a great home for a family gathering! Lots of space, including many different bedrooms that enable privacy. Beautiful backyard that enabled lots of kids to play, and functional back deck enables parents to comfortably watch. We had some challenges with the facilities, but Bill and team did what they could to remedy.

Thanks for the kind words Kristin. Glad you enjoyed the home and setting. It’s very special. I’m sorry we had a couple issues during your stays. For any inquiring minds, one of the electric circuits went dead so 2 outlets and the disposal lost power. My Electician came the same day (Friday) and couldn’t solve the problem. We brought in an electrical engineer that figured it out the following week after their departure. We also had screws come loose in the dishwasher and it tilted forward when opening the door. That was reported after the departure and we fixed immediately. It’s an old house and are constantly taking care of anything that pops up. -Bill
Beautiful home in wonderfully private setting even though on a neighborhood. Back patio fire pit and gas grill was such a wonderful setting for our family to enjoy outside. House has everything including space bedrooms and baths that you could need. Will be back !!

About the host
Hosted by Bill Russell
I am the owner of this home and have loved this property for three decades when my best friend purchased the home in the 1990s. He finally sold it to me almost 10 years ago and I have enjoyed raising my 3 kids on this large parcel that is SO close to Asheville, but you feel so far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it's minutes away if you want to jump into everything the city has to offer.
I have been making constant improvements to the home and property making it an amazing find and one of the most unique homes you'll find in the area. Most recently, the home and garage/barn have been completely painted inside and out. The 5th Bathroom is also completed in the lowest level which provides a common entrance for the 4 bedrooms that don't have their own private bathroom. It's been a real benefit for larger groups.
I'm a single father of 3, own a business in Asheville and got involved in rental property about 15 years ago. This property will be in my family forever and we take excellent care of the grounds and anything that needs attention.
Why they chose this property
This property is very private, it can accommodate large groups and there is plenty of room to spread out inside and out of the home.
SMALL EVENTS may be approved but are limited to 25-30 guests due to space and parking limitations and may incur a small event fee based on booking details and the specifics of the events. Lots of intimate weddings, rehearsal dinners, and small parties.
It is so close to everything Asheville has to offer, all while staying in a century old home that is one of a kind. Keep in touch as all proceeds from this property are going back into continued improvements and amenities.
What makes this property unique
Next to the Main house is a separate cottage that is now included in the rental and a great peaceful get-a-way for newly weds, grandparents, in-laws, or parents with a small child that wants a very quiet and private space...but is only steps from the main house. It has a separate bathroom, kitchen and living room. The front covered porch and the back patio at the cottage are a nice retreat from the main house.
