There are plenty of routes to follow via cycle or foot across miles of woodland and marshland. Local fishing villages such as Portscatho, Gerrans and Tregony are well worth a visit with their picturesque harbours, pretty cottages and stunning views. Why not spend a day exploring one or all of them.
St Mawes is probably the most popular with visitors. Bursting with heritage and charm, it attracts water sports lovers as well as walkers and nature lovers. St Mawes Castle, one of the best-preserved coastal artillery fortresses of Henry VIII, offers stunning views from the top of the castle keep. Inside you will get a sample of daily life at the castle. There is an abundance of choice when it comes to eating here from a café to a gourmet meal, and as you would expect, an abundance of seafood as well as traditional dishes. A great way to enjoy the views is to take a ferry ride. Catch the King Harry ferry or the foot ferry to Falmouth, or take a boat trip from the harbour. You can also hire a boat if you want to explore on your own. Whatever you do, it is lovely to come back to Castle Cottage and relax whilst you plan the next day’s adventure.
