About this property

The Old Grainstore rural farm stay holiday cottage

The Old Grainstore is one of a pair of beautiful contemporary barn conversion holiday cottages, where you can experience life on a working farm and get closer to nature, whilst staying in the lap of luxury. Situated on the edge of the Lake District, the peaceful, rural location means you can get away from it while being ideally based for exploring the Lake District, Solway Coast, the historic border city of Carlisle, Hadrians Wall and the Scottish Borders. Super family friendly too !
The space
The Old Grainstore is a stylish and spacious barn conversion cottage sleeping up to 6 plus up to two babies.
Converted from a 200-year old barn, retaining original features, such as exposed brickwork and oak beams, but also having the feel of a boutique interior.
The large living room is very smart and comfortable, with a smooth wood floor and lovely huge ceiling to floor window overlooking the farm yard, a pair of deep sofas, large Freesat TV, DVD player, and wood burning stove. The dining kitchen includes an electric oven with a ceramic hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing/dryer machine and a table with 6 chairs, plus high chairs are available. On the first floor, the master bedroom has a king size bed and an ensuite shower room with a WC. The second bedroom has a double bed and the third has two single beds that on request can be zip and linked to make a Super king-size bed. The master bedroom and double bedroom have space for travel cots and all three bedrooms have a TV. The contemporary-styled family bathroom has a bath with Separate quadrant shower, a washbasin and WC. Outside, the cottage has a patio with a dining table and chairs, BBQ on request plus a safe enclosed shared grass garden area with picnic tables and space for children to play.
The Old Grainstore ia a Green Gold award winner and we are very proud of our eco friendly credentials.
There is off-road parking for up to three cars, a secure cycle store and a tap for washing muddy bikes and boots.
There's also free wifi if you find it impossible to leave work behind or you have teenagers suffering from social media withdrawal.
Other things to note
This is a quiet site in the evening as we often have guests with small children

At Red Hall Farm in Cumbria, Martin and Joanne Baird, with their two children, are carrying on a family farming tradition which stretches back more than 200 years but they’re also bang up to date with the concept of smart, sustainable farming in the 21st century. The renovation of an old bothy and grain store into a pair of beautifully contemporary holiday cottages is one key part of this, where families can experience life on a working farm and get closer to nature, whilst staying in the lap of luxury.

Why they chose this property

Peace and quiet, beautiful farm buildings set in 200 acres of wildlife friendly farm land. So close to the amazing Lake District, Solway Coast, historic Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall.

What makes this property unique

We are complimented on the fact that guests love the peaceful setting and the unique farm experience. We are a perfect base for exploring the many attractions in the area, which guests particularly enjoy. We are also constantly complimented on how baby, toddler and child friendly the cottages and outside area are.
