Serene farmhouse in the hills of western Cape Breton
Step back into the serene simplicity of pastoral living while keeping modern comforts close at Archie’s Place. Built over a century ago and preserved in its charming rusticity, Cape Breton’s folksy history seems to radiate through our house much like the peaceful natural light that illuminates its pastel rooms and hardwood floors. Archie’s Place sits atop a sweeping hilltop farm in Broad Cove, just 5 minutes north of the village of Inverness and centrally located to beaches, hiking trials, world-class golfing, local artisans, Celtic music and more.
The pristine country air makes for excellent sleeping, and with beds for up to 6 people Archie’s Place offers just that! Of the four bedrooms, two contain double beds, another has a three-quarter size bed for a single person, and the fourth room contains a double bed plus a single bed. Comfortable window-side seating downstairs and rural quietness offer the perfect spot to unwind with a book or catch up with family and friends; while the large dining room and fully equipped kitchen are ideal for entertaining.

Archie's Place is a gem! We wanted a quiet, restful spot that was still close enough to amenities and the best beaches in the island, and we weren't disappointed. The hosts were so welcoming and gave us great advice which made our stay even better. We will be back!
We had an enjoyable stay in a quirky old farmhouse with lots of family memorabilia. It had everything we needed to cook our own meals, a washer and the ubiquitous Nova Scotia clothesline outside. Our host,Claire, was easy to reach if we needed her.

Karin, I’m glad that you enjoyed my old farmhouse. I like to leave the house as original as possible. No A/C, no dishwasher, and no king size beds! Guests seem to really feel at peace and relax at Archie’s Place. Thanks for the nice review! Safe travels, Claire
Our host, Claire, was lovely & easy to communicate with! The house was a bit rustic (a true Cape Breton home), but charming, extremely clean & contained everything we needed. Wi-fi is in limited supply on Cape Breton Island, so be prepared to disconnect & relax!
We had a great stay at Claire's place aka Archie the Tanner. A lovely little farm house accented with dated family pictures, tools and ornaments from the past. Sole complaint is the absence of wifi and poor cellular coverage. We rely on messaging so much now. Regardless, it's definitely a place we'll revisit. Thx Claire.
Bel petite maison agréable. Nous avons aimé l’endroit. Propre mais plusieurs fourmis. Aussi, déception car le wifi ne fonctionnait pas correctement.

About the host
Hosted by Claire
Thank you for considering Archie's Place! My name is Claire and Archie's Place has been a recent project of mine after my husband and I inherited it from our dear uncle Archie. I grew up in Cape Breton and have always appreciated the sense of a bygone time that still resonates in the villages of western Cape Breton; hence, I wanted to capture this with Archie's Place so that others could enjoy it. By stripping away the elements of 1960's modernism design (wall paneling, vinyl flooring) from this roughly 150-year-old home, I have revived its true rustic essence.
Why they chose this property
My husband and I inherited this estate from our dear uncle, Archie. Archie grew up in this house and remained here for his adult life. He took pride in working the land and maintaining the farm. The house was built by Archie's grandfather- my husband's great grandfather. Archie's grandfather operated the area's only leather tannery, located at the bottom of the property's driveway. After the tanner, Archie's mother, Mary Bell, inherited the house. She was a single mother of 6 children, managing childcare and cooking on top of the farm, livestock and gardens. Yet, Mary Bell was known to have one of the tidiest and respected farms in Broad Cove.
What makes this property unique
Archie’s Place is unique, because it’s like going back in time. Everything is simple and original.
