About this property
Peaceful, Homely, Pet Friendly with Private Parking - Holiday Apartment 13B
Our newly-renovated luxury second floor apartment boasts an incredibly convenient location less than a minute’s walk from the Costa Coffee on Torquay's bustling high street and five minutes' walk to the marina with its excellent choice of restaurants, bars, theatre and entertainment. Despite this central location, the apartment is remarkably quiet and peaceful, on a residential street with private off-street parking (very rare for central Torquay), and offering views over the lower part of the town out towards the harbour. The apartment is unique and full of character in a house dating from the 1850s that well-demonstrates the Torquay practice of building up against the rock face of the valleys in which the town is built. This really is an amazing little hideaway, with all of Torquay’s amenities literally on the doorstep, and yet also a great base from which to explore the rest of Torbay and South Devon. Entirely refurbished during the winter of 2024, with a new fitted kitchen and a high standard of internal decoration, the apartment is well equipped, dog friendly and boast high speed WiFi and use of a small shared raised garden to catch some afternoon sun.
Please note that this apartment is on the second floor and is accessed via stairs. We recommend that guests with mobility difficulties bear this in mind when booking.
The hosts, Jonathan and Sade, live locally and also run one of Torquay's most highly-regarded guest houses and are therefore very happy to assist guests in any way they can.

Our first experience of Torbay was in the Spring of 2016 when driving around South Devon on the lookout for somewhere to settle and bring up a young family. Driving along Torquay seafront on a beautiful spring afternoon, and then back along the stunning coast road from Dartmouth we both fell in love with South Devon, finally moving to Paignton in the winter of 2017.
We took over Kethla holiday apartments quite recently from the wonderful previous owners. Both of us have experience in the hospitality industry we have always loved entertaining guests and have thrown ourselves into making Kethla Self Catering apartment a luxurious home from home for our guests. Our mission is to ensure that all our guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay with us, and especially for all those new to the English Riviera and to South Devon to experience the same love at first sight and happy memories that we did when we first came here.
Sade's first career was as an engineer in the oil and gas industry. Sade is hands-on and practical - she has always been passionate about buildings and about interior design. Since taking on Kethla Holiday Apartments, Sade is responsible for updating the furnishings and décor, and she does most of the maintenance and decorating. Sade has an outgoing, bubbly, personality, loves welcoming guests if she bumps into them and making sure that they have everything they need for their stay.
Sade loves dancing, travelling, gardening and entertaining...
Jonathan was born in Dover in Kent. Previously a university lecturer, when he married Sade he moved to Nigeria (via a brief sojourn in Saudi Arabia), where he spent his time setting up a business providing editing and consultancy services to academics and researchers around the world.
Jonathan deals with most of the administration. Beyond the guest house, he loves travelling, playing with our children, art, ballet and cricket.

Why they chose this property
Since moving to Torbay in 2017 we have fallen in love with this beautiful and varied region, with its stunning scenery, rolling hills, benign climate and fascinating history, and feel privileged to be raising our young family in this renowned holiday destiny. As your hosts we would be delighted to introduce you to this beautiful part of the world.
What makes this property unique
The apartment is an attractive flat providing quality guest accommodation. It has that relaxing and comfortable feeling (just like a home away from home). Whether you are looking for a romantic weekend, a small family holiday, pet friendly or a short break we can offer you a warm welcome, luxuriously-appointed accommodation, a fully stocked kitchen, beautiful furnished living and bathroom at competitive prices year round, and just minutes from the town centre, beach, seafront and local shops and restaurants.
The apartment is unique and full of character in a house within Torquay's conservation area that dates from the 1850s and that well-demonstrates the Torquay practice of building up against the rock face of the valleys in which the town is built. Indeed, the road on which the building is situated descends through three hair-pin bends down a cliff, and is named from the large amounts of "Mother of Pores" tropical coral that used to be quarried from the cliff.
Torbay's famous beaches, the Riviera Conference Centre, Kents Cavern - one of Europe's most important stone age sites - the historic twelfth-century Torre Abbey, the Princess Theatre, Paignton Zoo, the amazing Dartmouth Steam Railway and Agatha Christie's house at Greenway are all within easy reach. Torquay is also the perfect base from which to explore the English Riviera, the beautiful South Devon Coast and the stunning scenery of Dartmoor National Park. It is also within easy reach of numerous National Trust and English Heritage properties, the historic cathedral city of Exeter and the thriving maritime city of Plymouth.
