About this property
The Barn, Square Island nr Pembroke. Peaceful and pet friendly.
Square Island is a peaceful, rural location adjacent to a small farm. Pembroke town and several outstanding beaches are just a short drive away. We are close to the Coast Path and NCN cycle route 4, local pick up/drop off available on request. The Barn is suitable for families, couples and small groups of up to 5 adults. We are more than happy for guests to bring their pets.
The Barn is a converted donkey stable, with traditional lime plaster walls and upcycled timber giving it a rustic feel. The courtyard is gated and secure for pets, perfect for drinks and BBQ in the summer. We live in the adjoining house and keep chickens in the garden, you are more than welcome to meet them and feed them some corn.
Layout and sleeping arrangements.
There are 2 main rooms with sleeping mezzanines above, each with ladder access. The one above the sitting room has 2 single beds, the other above the bathroom has a double bed. There is a sofa bed in the sitting room with separate bedding provided. The ladders are quite steep and unsuitable for toddlers or anyone with mobility issues. Younger children may need supervision using the ladders.
Sitting room.
There is a smartTV, board games and books including local maps and a house folder with lots of information on local places of interest, shops and good places to eat. We provide one complementary basket of logs, kindling and firelighters for use in the woodburner. Extra logs are available to buy.
Kitchen/dining area.
The kitchen is open plan and well equipped with oven/grill/hob and table that comfortably seats five. There is 1 large and 1 small fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, cafetiere and stove top espresso. The kitchen has plenty of cutlery, plates, pots, frying pan, pizza stone, baking sheets, ovenproof and serving dishes. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO DISHWASHER OR WASHING MACHINE, although I am often available to do laundry if necessary which is charged at £5 per load. The double bed mezzanine is accessed from this side.
Hot water/heating.
The combi boiler in the kitchen heats water on demand for washing up/showers. The heating is controlled by a thermostat.
Bathroom.
The bathroom has shower over bath, sink and loo, with toiletries and towels provided.
Courtyard area.
You have sole use of the gated courtyard which has a BBQ (please bring own coals) bench, table and chairs. It'is a real suntrap and the perfect place for a morning coffee or evening drink, watching the bats on a summers evening and stargazing on clear nights. Pets are safe to be off the lead. The only time you may see us is when we need to access the bin store or shed.
Parking.
There is parking behind the barn for 2 small cars (or car and small trailer). Please advise if you are arriving in more than 2 cars and we can show you where to park.
Location.
A car is essential to get around from Square Island, unfortunately there are no walking paths from the property. Pembroke is 2 miles away, there are several outstanding beaches 20min from us eg. Freshwater West, Broadhaven South and Barafundle. Tenby is 30min by car/train.

About the host
Hosted by Amanda Dodson

I moved with my family from Bristol in 2014, with the Barn on the agenda as a big restoration project. We love spending time at the beaches here, cycling the lanes and walking sections of the Pembrokeshire coast path. When I'm not doing maintenance jobs or taxi-ing my children about to football or rugby, you will find me escaping on my bike!
Why they chose this property
Square Island is so peaceful! Our closest neighbours are down the lane, the only people you are likely to see are ourselves or the farmer feeding his cows. If you want to hear the dawn chorus and watch bats flitting about at dusk on a summers evening this is the place to be.
There are so many beaches to explore here, we love swimming at Broadhaven South, or jumping off Stackpole Quay! The quiet lanes and woodlands are great for cycling, and I'm happy to advise on any routes if you want to bring your bikes for a cycling holiday.

What makes this property unique
The barn itself is quirky and characterful, children always love the sleeping mezzanines and we wanted to make it feel homely and comfortable.
