About this property
Idyllic secluded hideaway with countryside views
A newly converted stunning barn surrounded by beautiful countryside. Conveniently located on the edge of the Cotswolds with easy access to Oxford too.
The Hayloft is a unique, beautiful cottage for two, surrounded by fields and with views of the countryside beyond. Situated at the end of a no-through lane, it’s perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the remote peace and tranquillity of nature, while still having access to great pubs and restaurants in the local market towns of Witney, Charlbury and Burford.
It’s a good base for visiting Oxford, Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds. Charlbury station is a ten-minute drive with direct trains from London. Local supermarkets are within a mile, and there is a small convenience store a few minutes’ walk across the fields.
This newly converted 18th century hayloft is set on the edge of a traditional farmstead, overlooking fields and woods. We have a small herd of British White cattle, some chickens and a friendly Cocker Spaniel.
The beautifully light and spacious open plan downstairs retains genuine features and consists of a living area with a sofa and armchairs, TV (Freeview, Netflix and Amazon Prime) and a small dining table next to the modern, fully equipped kitchen.
A spiral staircase leads to the ensuite bedroom in the roof space, where the original beams create a cosy and authentic space around the king size bed.
At ground level, double patio doors open onto a private terrace surrounded by terracotta pots and a drystone wall. There is a garden table and chairs, reclining deck chairs, a chiminea (logs provided) and a small barbeque. This looks out over a lawn and pond and surrounding countryside. There is a bench next to the pond where you can sit and relax, soaking up the evening sun.
Environmentally conscious, the Hayloft’s underfloor heating is provided by an air source heat pump, the electricity is solar generated, and the water is pumped from our own bore hole.
Suggestions of things to do in the local area:
- Great 8 mile circular walk around Charlbury with The Bull Inn half way round for refreshments.
- Beautiful Burford and maybe on to Lynham for a walk with fantastic views at the top (great stop for a bottle of rosé!).
- Circular walk from the Hayloft to Minster Lovell Hall ending up at The Lamb Inn in Crawley.
- Stunning Blenheim Palace with The Back Lane Tavern in Woodstock, great for tapas and drinks.
- A bit further afield, The Slaughters are said to be the most beautiful villages in England.
The Hayloft is opposite the main farmhouse where we live but is not overlooked by any other buildings. You will have use of the extensive lawn immediately in front of The Hayloft. The driveway is shared with us, but you have private parking for up to two cars. Electric cars can be charged (from our solar energy!) for £15 a charge.
Our friendly Spaniel may greet you on arrival, but we can make sure she is in our house if you prefer. We produce our own organic beef and free range eggs and can provide these for a small charge if available (£2.50 for a half dozen eggs, £7.50 for 4 home-made burgers. Please give 24 hours' notice for burgers if possible). Our fields are abundant with mushrooms for foraging in autumn.
The property has a spiral staircase and is therefore not suitable for children except babies in arms.
