About this property
Osprey Cottage - stunning views in a peaceful but convenient location
Osprey Cottage is a pretty semi-detached cottage situated in tranquil wooded grounds in the hamlet of Alcaig on the Black Isle.
Osprey Cottage features stunning views over the Cromarty Firth, with the hills and mountains of Easter Ross beyond, from the lounge and both bedrooms. It's a view which is constantly changing with the tide and light. The tidal firth is a haven for wildlife and ospreys can be seen most days in the summer months from the cottage fishing over the firth and in the winter thousands of geese can be seen.
It has a kitchen and an open-plan dining and living area with wide-reaching views across the Cromarty Firth and towards Ben Wyvis. The cottage has easy ramp access making it suitable for some disabled guests and wheelchair users.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, washer-dryer machine, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, and fridge with a small freezer compartment.
There is one double bedroom (with a king-sized bed and a walk-in wardrobe) and one single bedroom. Both have views across the Inner Cromarty Firth.
The lounge has a Smart TV with Freeview, radio, games, books and lots of leaflets and information.
The cottage has under-floor heating with individually-controllable thermostats in each room and a heated-towel radiator in the shower room.
From the dining area french doors open out onto the private patio area with a table and chairs. There are shared wooded gardens that host a large amount of birdlife. The cottage is located at the end of a private drive and has parking for a car immediately in front of it.
The cottage has wifi.
Two well-behaved pets may be allowed by arrangement at no extra cost. To ensure the comfort of our neighbours and the safety of your pets, dogs must not be left unattended in the property at any time. The garden is a large communal area.
Despite the peace and quiet, the cottage is conveniently located for the town of Dingwall (3 miles away) and the Highland's capital Inverness (12 miles). It is also the perfect base for touring the Highlands being at the hub of the road network. Some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Torridon, Assynt - is less than an hour away. The Black Isle itself has historical villages like Cromarty, great beaches such as Rosemarkie, and at Chanonry Point has the best land location to see dolphins in the UK.
Osprey Cottage offers you the opportunity to stay in a clean, comfortable, quiet location with exceptional views and be perfectly located for the best the Highlands has to offer.
Disabled Suitability Wheelchair accessible
There is a paved ramp from the drive, where there is parking, to the front door. All the interior door widths are suitable.
The shower is extra-large but has a lip for the shower tray of around 4cm. A shower stool is available on request.
There is no grab handle by the toilet but a freestanding toilet frame is available on request.
Just a slight adjustment to one of the sofas in the lounge is needed to accommodate wheelchair guests. We have accommodated many wheelchair guests in the past without any issues.

Lovely owners who were pleasant to chat to but left us to enjoy our break without imposing. The property was really clean and tidy. The views and the wildlife were great. A little bit of a trek to find places to go as we weren’t wanting to walk much and there had just been a big storm. But Loch Ness is not too far and is stunning. Would definitely stay at this property again
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cottage. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine how it could have been any better. The cottage was spotless, beautifully maintained, and equipped with everything we could possibly need. It was incredibly comfortable, cozy, and felt like a true home away from home. The location was fantastic, offering both peace and convenience, and the surroundings were simply beautiful. The hosts clearly put a lot of care and attention into every detail, which made our stay even more special. Communication was excellent, and we felt genuinely welcomed throughout our visit. We have stayed in many holiday accommodations over the years, and this was easily one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. We would not hesitate to return and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a perfect getaway.Thank you for such a memorable stay!
Host and place were really nice, and accommodating of our request for bedding etc to be washed without softener. Also a big positive apart from the lovely location was the host letting us know we could check in almost an hour early. Very helpful! Some reasons for our rating not being 5: Appreciate the peaceful location can’t be ever guaranteed but we booked to avoid fireworks and expressly confirmed if there were usually any beforehand. It was a shame quite a few could be heard, and feels worthwhile sharing for anyone else going for that reason Despite signs to have dogs always on a lead I had one nosing around near our front door without any sign of a person. Not ideal as the garden areas aren’t fully enclosed so we had to be extra careful with our small dog and her health issues to avoid any encounters We had to search for the TV remote and although the host was lovely about it, how much cleaning is expected of guests checking out might be contributing to issues like this The heating was ok, although underfloor isn’t for everyone, it could’ve been worse. Big downside was some evenings the temperature dropped as low as 17 degrees, which for us was just a bit too cold
Great place. The pictures do not to this charming house justice. We will be back. The hosts were very responsive and helpful. Thank you for sharing your home and amazing country with us.
