About the host
Hosted by Chris
Kentisbury is a quiet, scattered parish in North Devon, set on the edge of Exmoor National Park between Barnstaple and the dramatic North Devon coast.
The parish sits along the A39 Atlantic Highway, roughly seven miles east of Barnstaple and twelve miles west of Lynton. It is made up of several small hamlets -- Kentisbury, Kentisbury Ford, and Patchole -- linked by narrow lanes winding through rolling farmland and wooded valleys. The medieval Church of St Thomas stands at the heart of the parish, and the surrounding countryside offers a peaceful, rural character that is typical of this corner of Devon.
Local Amenities
Kentisbury is a genuinely rural parish with no village shop or post office. The nearest convenience stores are in Combe Martin (approximately 4 miles) or Blackmoor Gate (2 miles), where there is also a petrol station. For day-to-day shopping, Barnstaple (7 miles) is the nearest town with supermarkets, banks, and high street shops.
Nearby
Blackmoor Gate, just 2 miles away, is a well-known crossroads and the western gateway to Exmoor National Park. From here, roads lead south into the heart of the moor and north towards the coast. Arlington Court, a Regency house and estate owned by the National Trust, is just 2 miles away and makes a wonderful day out. Combe Martin, 4 miles to the north, has a sandy beach, pubs, and shops, while Barnstaple offers a wider range of amenities including the Pannier Market, independent shops, and restaurants.
