Nestled in the heart of the Somerset countryside, our shepherd hut Collie offers a peaceful, luxury escape in a tranquil half‑acre setting that once flourished as an apple orchard. Today, this serene space is home to two beautifully handcrafted, self‑contained shepherd huts, each thoughtfully designed for comfort, relaxation, and romance.
Step inside your private hideaway and enjoy a cosy, well‑equipped space perfect for unwinding. Curl up beside the wood‑burning stove (firewood included), watch a film on the smart TV, or drift off in the king‑size bed tucked into a charming alcove. The kitchen includes everything you need for easy meals: a microwave oven, double gas hob, fridge with freezer compartment, kettle, and toaster.
The ensuite shower room features a flushing toilet, heated towel rail, and fresh towels, plus separate towels for the wood‑fired hot tub. Soft bathrobes and slippers are also provided for a little extra luxury after a soak or a refreshing shower.
To welcome you, we include a complimentary breakfast pack for your first morning with tea, coffee, fresh milk, and a selection of treats. During the cooler months, you’ll also find hot chocolate waiting to keep things extra cosy.
Outside, take in sweeping views across the Somerset Levels. In spring and summer, you may spot our friendly miniature Shetland ponies grazing in the paddock. Spend long evenings relaxing in your private hot tub, cooking on the BBQ/firepit, or stargazing under clear country skies.
We’re proudly dog‑friendly. One well‑behaved dog is welcome (small fee applies), and we’re happy to consider two small dogs depending on breed and size - please enquire. Returning guests enjoy free dog stays on future visits. We provide bowls, towels, treats, and poop bags so your pup feels right at home.
For those who love to explore, we’re ideally located for many of Somerset’s top attractions: Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, and Glastonbury Abbey are all within easy reach. Nature lovers can visit nearby reserves such as RSPB Ham Wall, Greylake, and Avalon Marshes, or enjoy scenic walks to Millennium Wood and Turn Hill, both close by.
Local favourites include the Bere Cider Company (1 mile), a dog‑friendly spot offering local ciders, a café, and regular events, and The Halfway House in Pitney (4 miles), an award‑winning pub known for real ales and homemade food.
Whether you’re soaking in the hot tub, enjoying a glass of wine by the fire, or exploring the countryside with your four‑legged friend, this is the perfect romantic retreat in every season.
Travelling with friends? We also offer a second hut, Luxury Shepherd Hut with Private Hot Tub & Views - listed separately on VRBO. Book both huts to enjoy a countryside getaway together each with its own private space and wood‑fired hot tub, ideal for couples who want to share the experience while still enjoying their own privacy.

About the host
Hosted by Chloe
We are Chloe and Kevin, local to the area and passionate about creating a peaceful countryside escape at Collie Shepherd Huts. We enjoy sharing this beautiful part of Somerset with guests and love seeing people unwind, slow down, and enjoy the open views across the Somerset Levels.
Being hosts is important to us, and we take pride in preparing each stay with care so guests arrive to a clean, comfortable, and relaxing space. We’re always nearby if needed, but we also understand the importance of privacy, so you can fully enjoy your time away.
Why they chose this property
We chose this area because of its peaceful countryside setting, set within a working farm overlooking the Somerset Levels. It’s a landscape that feels open, calm, and authentic, with wide skies and ever-changing light throughout the day.
What we enjoy most is the sense of space and connection to rural life. Guests often love waking up to birdsong, watching the mist roll across the fields, and seeing farm life in the background while still enjoying complete privacy in their own space. The sunsets here are particularly special, stretching across the horizon and creating a truly memorable end to the day.
What makes this property unique
Collie Shepherd Huts is unique for its rare combination of complete countryside seclusion, far-reaching views across the Somerset Levels, and its setting on a working farm. This creates an authentic rural atmosphere, where guests can enjoy the beauty of open fields and ever-changing skies while still having a private, carefully designed space to themselves.
Each hut has been thoughtfully created to offer comfort and simplicity, with a private hot tub positioned to make the most of the views. It’s a popular choice for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, and romantic breaks, offering a memorable setting to relax, reconnect, and celebrate in peace and privacy.
