About this property
Cottage in central Porlock, with garden & parking
Summary:
Tucked away in the heart of Porlock, this charming Victorian cottage combines period character with modern comfort. Set on a quiet mews terrace just off the High Street, it offers rare private parking. Inside, a cosy sitting and dining room with a woodburner opens to a bright, well-equipped kitchen. This leads to an enclosed garden, perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. Upstairs are a double bedroom, twin room, and spacious bathroom. Ideal for exploring Exmoor’s hills and coast.
The Space:
Nestled in central Porlock, this beautifully restored late-Victorian cottage is tucked away on a peaceful mews terrace just steps from the High Street.
The cottage is one of the few in the area with private parking right outside the door. Please note that the lane is a quiet Victorian cul-de-sac and is narrow, but manageable. There is additional free or paid parking very close by.
Step inside and you’ll find a bright, welcoming living space with a bay-windowed sitting area and a dining table beside the woodburner — perfect for relaxed evenings in. Curl up with a film on the smart TV or unwind with a book from the collection provided. Remote workers and writers can enjoy the pull-down desk on the bureau.
From the dining room, French doors open directly onto the enclosed garden - a lovely sun trap for breakfast al fresco or an evening glass of wine. The adjoining kitchen is full of colour and charm, thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need, including a dishwasher, microwave, and coffee machine.
Upstairs are two restful bedrooms – a double and a twin – both finished with calming décor and quality linens. They share a spacious bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower.
With Exmoor’s walking trails, coastline, and Porlock’s welcoming pubs and shops right on your doorstep, this is a stylish yet homely base for exploring the best of Somerset’s coast and countryside.
Guest Access:
Guests have the cottage to themselves. Please note that there is an attic room, which is the owners’ private space and is kept locked.
The Neighborhood:
Porlock is on the edge of Exmoor National Park, and offers the perfect combination of coastal beauty, moorland adventure, woodland walks and village charm. Nestled between dramatic hills and the sea, Porlock is a wonderful base for walking, wildlife spotting, and exploring this stunning corner of West Somerset.
The village itself is full of character, with independent shops, galleries, tea rooms, and traditional pubs. Stop by one of the local inns, such as The Ship Inn or The Castle Hotel, for hearty food or to try a local ale. The nearby Porlock Weir, just a short walk or drive away, is a picturesque harbour with pebbled beaches, seafood restaurants, and views across the Bristol Channel - perfect for a leisurely afternoon.
For walkers, the options are endless. Stroll along the South West Coast Path, hike up Porlock Hill, or venture into Exmoor National Park, where wild ponies, red deer, and breathtaking scenery await. The Dovery Manor Museum in Porlock offers a fascinating insight into local history, while nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Horner Woods National Nature Reserve, with ancient oak trees and peaceful streams.
A short drive away, visit the medieval village of Dunster, with its castle and charming streets, or explore Lynton and Lynmouth, connected by their famous cliff railway. The stunning Valley of Rocks is another must-see, offering dramatic coastal walks and views. Whether you’re after outdoor adventures, seaside strolls, or cosy village life, Porlock provides the perfect gateway to Exmoor’s wild beauty and Somerset’s coastal charm.
