About this property

3 Bed in Kirkbymoorside (oc-y100)

The Old Windmill is a stunning example of a historic windmill, with its circular rooms, winding staircases, and beautiful views the higher up you go this is a truly individual property and an opportunity to experience something different. It is in the traditional village of Kirkbymoorside, gateway to iconic Farndale with its renowned daffodils and the North York Moors National Park. There are some gift and antique shops here, independent cafés, pubs and hotels, and two lovely delis and a bakery to ensure you have all the ingredients for some home cooked Yorkshire fare. A short drive away up into the edge of the moors is Gillamoor with its village pub, the Royal Oak, great for food and with lovely open fires. Walk to the edge of the village and marvel at “surprise view”, and yes, it will surprise you. Helmsley with its shopping, Castle, Birds of Prey Centre and bustling market square is but a short drive away as is Pickering and the famous North York Moors steam railway. The gems of the Yorkshire coast are nearby including the jewel in the east coast crown the iconic Whitby, an old fishing village but now a lively seaside town, famous for fish and chips and Whitby Abbey.

The Windmill is over four floors with a ground floor living room and door out to the open patio area, a bathroom with large shower, main bedroom and two single bedrooms. You will marvel at the ceiling in the top bedroom, a true, “room with a view”. There is a small courtyard to sit and BBQ or simply enjoy the peace looking over neighbouring small paddocks. If you are there in the summer marvel at the dahlias in the adjoining garden, rows and rows of prize-winning blooms and a beautiful sight. With outdoor storage for bikes, why not challenge yourself and take a tour around the moors using pedal power, follow in the footsteps of the Tour de Yorkshire, maybe not as fast but just as picturesque.

Whatever you choose to do you are spoilt for choice in this area of Yorkshire. there is something for everyone, historic castles, Whitby Abbey, museums, superb local markets with the very best Yorkshire produce and of course restaurants and tea rooms too numerous to mention. For a special occasion there are two Michelin starred restaurants in the area.

GROUND FLOOR:

Note: All rooms have circular walls and beamed ceilings and the stairs are steep and winding.

Entrance hallway: On entering the front door, you will find a useful small hallway. A great place to store your muddy boots after a day’s walking on the moors, a built-in cupboard is very useful for bits and bobs.

Lounge: This room is cosy and comfortably furnished. Two comfortable sofas and two occasional chairs are there for you to relax on whilst watching a favourite film on the Smart TV with Netflix, BT Sport, ITV Hub, I Player etc. There is a door to the patio outside and lovely views of the neighbouring gardens. A lovely light and airy room with a beamed ceiling, books and games for you to enjoy and the thrill of sitting in a round room in a historic windmill.

12 Steps up to first floor:

Kitchen/dining room: The kitchen is well equipped with a view over the rooftops of Kirkbymoorside. It is just the place for the whole family to gather and enjoy each other’s company. There is an electric double oven with grill, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. There is a pine table which comfortably seats 4 and for the foodies among you why not cook something special using ingredients from the two wonderful delis in the village, or bring home some fish and chips, you just have to! On a balmy summer evening eat al fresco in the patio area. A welcome pack will be waiting for you when you arrive.

Bathroom: A beamed ceiling lends itself to the ambiance of the building, there is a large shower with rain head, basin and toilet. A heated towel rail keeps your towels lovely and toasty.

12 Steps up to second floor:

Bedroom 1: A relaxing room with a double bed, you will also find plenty of storage with a built-in wardrobe, a mirror above a lovely decorative table , beams and pretty blinds, the pale blue of this toom is so restful and the windows afford you stunning views into the distance, the views just get better and better the higher up the windmill you go. Full-length free-standing mirror, shelf and bedside cabinets complete the look.

12 Steps up to the third floor:

Bedroom 2: Another pretty bedroom with a single bed, bedside shelf, hanging rails, and a full-length mirror and great views, some lovely decorative bits and pieces make this toom very individual, there is a cute painted child’s vintage table and chair, this would be a great room for a child.

12 Steps up to the fourth floor:

Bedroom 3: You are at the top of the windmill now and the views are stunning as far as the eye can see. Watch the sun come up or sink into the distance and the colours will amaze you. There is a definite quirkiness to this room at the top! Day bed which folds out to a twin with full length shelf to one side, hanging rail, a vintage pine dressing table and best of all a hanging wicker seat to relax in. Three windows mean whichever way you look you will have a view from upon high! Children would need to be supervised in this room as there is an open rail that leads to the steep staircase. This bedroom really does have a wow factor with its original herringbone domed ceiling.

Outdoors: A large shed gives safe, secure storage for bikes etc, and contains a BBQ and range of garden and outdoor furniture which guests are free to make use of on those balmy sunny afternoons and evenings. It is fully plumbed with an automatic washing machine and tumble drier.
