About this property
2 Bed in Arkengarthdale (oc-s32440)
Located on a working hill farm in the Arkengarthdale valley, this stone cottage is fabulous for an off-the-beaten track break with friends or family. The farm is surrounded by wildflower meadows and heather moorland, with babbling brooks and pastures adding further bucolic bliss while unspoilt skies promise unforgettable stargazing opportunities. Arkengarthdale and Swaledale – the two most northerly Yorkshire Dales – meet at Reeth (6 miles), where you’ll find a fine choice of friendly inns and eateries. Other must-see locations within 10 miles include Gunnerside, Muker, Keld and Thwaite, while Bowes –famous for its castle – is 14 miles. Take the effort out of your self-catering stay with a visits to the Tan Hill Inn – the highest pub in Britain – which is only 5.5 miles away. Even closer, another friendly local, the CB Inn, sits at the edge of the Pennine Way, close to the mid-point of Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk and adjacent to the Stang, one of the world’s most dramatic cycling climbs.
Nestled in the valley bottom and next to the owner’s family farmhouse, this rural holiday residence offers a perfect escape from the everyday. Pause to admire the far-reaching views before you step inside, once over the threshold you’re straight into a welcoming lounge with a choice of comfortable seating arranged before the Smart TV and wood burner. The country styling continues in the kitchen and adjacent dining room. You’ll find all the essentials for fuss-free self-catering in the former, while the latter features a spacious dining suite set before wide windows that serve up some stunning views of the patchwork of fields beyond. When it’s time to sleep, two bedrooms on the first floor offer versatile sleeping arrangements to suit any party of four. Contemporary wooden furnishings and an original fireplace feature in the first, a super-king-size room, while in the second there are twin beds which can, on request, be made up as another super-king-size. Convenient for both, the bathroom has Velux-style windows and a free-standing roll-top bath – ideal for a dream-inducing soak before bed.
There’s ample off-road parking so you can unpack and explore at your own pace, while the patios to both the front and rear of the property are furnished so you can fully embrace your country-living experience. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding dales by day and stunning star scapes after dark. Private off road parking for 2 cars.
