About this property

Riverside house with jetty near Cognac

You'll stay in a historic ferryman's cottage from 1840, perched right on the riverbank beside an ancient bridge. Original features blend seamlessly with bright, contemporary touches throughout this lovingly restored home. Step straight onto your private stone jetty where a kayak and electric boat await your river adventures. The newly built riverside terrace offers uninterrupted water views – perfect for al fresco dining with your group.

The open-plan ground floor flows naturally between kitchen, breakfast room and TV room, creating an inviting space where you can gather together. Each bedroom comes with its own bathroom facilities, ensuring everyone has their own comfortable retreat. Large windows frame the river views and fill the rooms with natural light.

Your riverside garden stretches down to the water's edge, accessed directly from the house. The stone jetty provides your launching point for kayaking expeditions or leisurely trips in the electric boat. The terrace becomes your outdoor living room, where you can watch the river life drift by.

Jarnac's market town charm lies just five minutes away, home to renowned Cognac houses including Courvoisier, Delamain and Braastad. Explore the beautiful riverside park, join a river cruise, or try your hand at kayaking. The nearby village hosts an exceptional restaurant serving traditional French cuisine, an artisan boulangerie for fresh morning pastries, and a stunning 12th century abbey. Cognac itself offers cinema, boat trips and fine dining options.

The house is located right on a river. It is a converted old ferry house that has been renovated with great care and taste. Each room has its own style and a private bathroom with a toilet and shower. The kitchen is very modern and spacious, equipped with everything you need. A washing machine and a dishwasher are also available. You can step directly from the kitchen into the garden, which is completely fenced in. The garden offers several spots to relax—either right by the river or under a palm tree, where you can also barbecue. You even have direct access to the river, with the option to use a kayak or a boat. The river is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The nearby bakery has excellent baguettes, and the “Jesuiten” were especially delicious. The area is very quiet and offers plenty of opportunities for biking or walking. There were six of us, including our dog, and we really enjoyed our stay. Ally and Brain (the hosts), in particular, were incredibly warm and made us feel very welcome—it was almost like visiting friends. They were always there to help with any questions, and we’ll definitely be going back.
