About this property

Tranquil Retreat w/ private National Forrest access, pond & creek

Our beautiful private property overlooking the Wet Mountain Valley has a pond, year round Buttermilk creek that sounds lovely even in Winter. Our private access to the San Isabel National forest & the 90 mile Rainbow trail along the Sangre de Christo Mountains. Hunter paradise. Fall asleep to the sound of running water & sipping coffee in the gazebo by the pond. At night light the fire in the wood stove and while you are warm and see the flames dancing in our cozy house with wrap around deck and views into the wet mountain valley with many forests, meadows, trails, lakes to boat and fish.
Or light a fire in our fire ring while watching the night sky.
From the porch you can see passing by (specially early and at dusk) Elk, deer, turkey and hummingbirds that you can watch and admire.

The house has two rooms with 1 King and the other 1 Queen, one room with 1 single and one Double/Full , 1 single bed on the upper loft. 2 couches that turn to beds.
A lovely brand new kitchen to cook and a wrap around porch and deck to enjoy views and the sound of the creek
- Hiking
- relaxing by the pond & creek
- Hunting & Fishing
- Wolf sanctuary in the valley
- River rafting
- Mountain biking
- Excursions to Hot springs, skiing Art & Jazz Festivals, Sand Dunes
- Dark Sky Sanctuary & observatory in Westcliffe

It is a wonderful quiet place with no one around, yet 15 min you can be in town and check out one of the local restaurants/coffee shops and fun gift stores.
At times we are at the upper part of our property You are welcome to visit with us, but we basically let our guests enjoy the place on their own,We hope you enjoy all the nature and Privacy. We also have two really lovely dogs, Martin and Tiny, they are here to keep the bears away, and are amazing guard dogs. They are very friendly with people, though they may bark to keep predators away or when they first meet someone. At times we may need to get something from our garage or do some maintenance, but basically think of having your own mountain abode:)

As Described, Loved Property and Its Location
Property was as described. Owners were very helpful. We stayed a week on vacation, and used this as a base for going to many attractions 1.5 hours or less from here. Would recommend it to others. Property was clean, fully stocked, had all items needed for a week's stay. Beautiful setting at base of mountains, overlooking farming valley below. We were concerned about 6 miles of gravel road because of much rain in the afternoons for the entire week, but it didn't end up being a problem for our passenger car.

Exceptional Colorado experience
The property was actually better than what was put forth to me on VRBO when searching! The house very comfortable with everything needed for great stay. The hosts were fantastic and we all enjoyed our interactions with them. What a truly interesting couple. As added bonus loved their doggies!

Lovely mountain getaway
House just as pictured. Very comfortable. Hosts were friendly, welcomed us & explained how the thermostats worked. Kitchen cabinets are labeled for guest convenience. Beautiful sunrise views from living room, relaxing sound of creek from deck (or house if open sliding doors), mountain hiking trails, (through beautiful fall colored Aspens) just out the back. Besides the host's sweet dogs, we were also visited by about 15 wild turkeys(1st night only), a few cotton tails, many native birds, and each time we drove out to the main road saw pronghorns (antelope), and a few times mule deer. Loved the nearby towns of Westcliffe & Silvercliffe. Lots if restaurants, local coffee shops, & a fully stocked grocery store. We plan on visiting the area again.

Would not recommend staying here
The pictures are out dated ...when we arrived we were shocked to see that there is no upkeep to the property..the owners dogs were barking all night and all morning woke us up the 1st morning at 6am and the 2nd morning at 5am...they were right under our bedroom window barking when they got sprayed by a skunk and the strong smell came in to the room..tried grilling but everytime we went out the dogs were right there we couldn't enjoy sitting outside on the deck or porch because of the dogs...we also took our dog who is trained very well but couldn't let him out because their dog wanted to fight with him....we were really looking forward to a nice quiet relaxing vacation but that did not happen...the owner had to keep coming into the cabin to get to her work stuff , the pond was full of alage so we couldn't fish..no internt..these things were listed as things at the cabin. The owner was very nice but our stay was not...pictures need to be updated on the listing.

We are lovers of the outdoors...a forester from Switzerland who love our home and life in the Rocky Mountains of the Wild West. The great people and the amazing place here is something for everyone that we love to share with people from around the world.
This August we get to live on the upper part of the property part time in our Tiny house, so if you need something please let us know.
We are also Wild Land fire fighters and are very very busy during the Summer/fall fighting fires.
We hope you enjoy all the nature and Privacy.

Why they chose this property

The moment we saw this awesome slice of heaven, the forrest, the beauty and views, meadows, fireflies, our pond and stream ... and a 500,000 acre + "backyard" called Sangre de Christo mountain range and San Isabel Forest.
How can one resist that???

What makes this property unique

To have the feeling of a mountain retreat where you may not want to leave, you can go straight in the National Forrest to Rainbow trail through our back gate for hiking.
In the morning just after sunrise the deer migrate back into the hills while you sip your coffee of sort on the porch.
The elk , turkey and deer may come around, early in the morning and at dusk, or you like to sit and rad a book by the pond and listen to the the creek spilling over the rocks.

Be in your mountain adventure while you can take outings to hot springs, breweries, mountain trails and peaks, white water rafting, hunting, fishing or go visit the wolf sanctuary to see those magnificent animals up close.

Hop into the local town for a cold beer and good food., a open sky Shakespeare performance, Rodeo, Wolf Sanctuary, Westcliffe's own Observatory, river rafting or skiing and snowshoeing along the beautiful trails and near by ski area of Mammoth that is not very crowded.
