Great family getaway
This place was amazing. It is away from the bustle of town yet within a few minutes drive to Westcliffe. We were frequented by deer, rabbits, and even some turkeys. We did some hiking which was close by and spent lots of time playing inside and outside games. We had no complaints about the house or the view and the owner was easy to contact and communicate with. This was our first time using VRBO and Mrs. Madeleine made it easy to do. We will definitely be coming back.

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am Maddie and my partner, J.D. who has joined me in this new chapter in our lives in sharing this wonderful cozy mountain home. We live in Florence, CO. only fifty-five minutes away. Since my move down here from south Denver in 2020, I am originally from Oklahoma, born and raised but now I have been living in CO. for twenty-five years. At one time Colorado felt like it was my second home as every summer my family spent two weeks here camping, jeeping and exploring Colorado. Ever since youth I fell in love with this state. I attribute this to my dad who taught me to appreciate the wonders of the outdoors.
In 2016 I had come to know Westcliffe, surprisingly an area I had never been to. This time it was my partner JD who introduced me to its surroundings. I was in awe with how quaint the historical town of Westcliffe was and how main street ended with the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mountain range starring right at you. I always had dreams of finding a place in the mountains and it was here I found this hidden gem, not as exposed in its location unlike other places in Colorado. Over the last few years, we have been replacing and working hard on days off to make this our mountain home. It's been an escape from the daily grind of work and recharges us as it brings serenity back into our lives. By sharing this mountain home, we hope it will bring to you many memories and may it bring serenity to you as it does for us.

Why they chose this property

This property is in a wonderful location surrounded with 360 views of the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mountain range, the valley floor of Westcliffe and the Wet Mountains.
For the lovers of hiking, you are only 1/2 mile from the National Forest with a variety of trails from easy to challenging hikes leading to lakes, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. Two trails in this area are the Commanche and Venerable trailhead's which connect to the Rainbow Trail which is > 100 miles long. "If you don't Climb the Mountain, You can't See the View".
This cozy home's unique hexagonal design gives you ample views of the mountains and the valley below whether inside or outside on the wrap around deck. Sit on the relaxing deck at 8,700 feet to view nature, feel the warmth of the sun, listen to the sound of Venerable Creek in the far distance during the early months of the snow run off and watch the hummingbirds dive bomb each other if you choose to put out nectar. Nestled away back from the road, read a book in the hammock amongst the trees of Pine, Aspen and Mountain Oaks. Cook on the grill and have a seat at the picnic table w/ umbrella while you eat. There is also a horseshoe pit at the end of the driveway. Inside feel the welcoming of the large cozy living room and the twenty-five-foot fireplace leading up to the Aspen ceiling. Flat screen T.V. on the mantel with surround sound. Four full large windows for viewing above and below. Sofa bed with memory foam mattress. Full kitchen, washer and dryer off kitchen in open pantry room. Many amenities. Quiet open sitting room off the living area with futon, desk and half bathroom. Privacy blackout curtains as this could be a sleeping area as well. Upstairs two loft bedrooms with privacy blackout curtains, Jack and Jill full bathroom. Flat screen T.V. in main bedroom.
Westcliffe is known for its Dark Sky. The night sky is amazing on a clear night. At the end of the day gaze up at the stars inside or outside and find your falling star.

What makes this property unique

This mountain home's benefits are all about its location. At the end of the day this is a great location to come back to after a day of adventures such as climbing one of the
14rs,13rs, hiking one of the many trails, jeeping, fishing, horseback riding and river rafting. The Arkansas River is only 40 minutes away. Try out the Alpine Lodge Restaurant and bar just a 1/2 mile up the road or a day in historical Westcliffe only 15 minutes away to shopping, gifts shops, art gallery, restaurants, eating ice cream, stop by the old jail house, or a concert in the park. Westcliffe has many additional events happening during the summer. I will provide maps of the state of Colorado, trails of the Sangre De Cristo and Wet Mountains, info on our Dark Sky and brochures of events in my home. Check them out while here. Westcliffe is only 3 hours SW of Denver. If it is nature you want to see, seek adventure, relaxation or be a star gazer you will love exploring all that Westcliffe and its surrounding area has to offer.

Please Note: This properties elevation is at 8,700 feet and is wonderful relaxing place to escape from it all. However, if guests suffer from altitude - related health issues this location may not be appropriate.
