Unique and fun trip!

The whole family enjoyed our stay in the caboose. Seeing the Bison when you wake up was so neat, we even got to see a brand new baby that was just born. The kids loved feeding the goats and seeing all of the animals.

Wonderful!

Our entire stay was one of the best experiences we have had. We stayed in the orange caboose and loved it! It was very clean and the best were comfortable. The staff goes above and beyond. Cheryl invited us to the Saturday morning breakfast and it was well worth it! We will definitely be back!

Train Lovers Dream

This stay was for my son’s high school graduation. He loves all things trains. We have stayed in many caboose cars across the country. This is by far the nicest we have stayed in. It has everything you need. It is modern, but has kept an authentic feel. He had a blast being able to utilize the cupola. The fact that it is on a Buffalo ranch is an added plus. He also enjoyed the Agapeland model train layout. Thank you to the guys who opened it up and allowed him to enjoy your collection. We will have fun trying out different cabooses on the property during future visits. Everything was clean upon arrival and communication was great. I highly recommend!

Train lover’s paradise!

What a joy it was to pull up to the cabooses and see what looked like a depot of cabooses now! Our hosts Jeff and Cheryl were so excited to let us know about their plans to add more cabooses to their property and what they have in store sounds absolutely incredible! Our own caboose was incredibly tangtastic and fantastic! We love the interior decor that was incredibly thought about. The charming orange and train themed home decor was absolutely adorable! Seeing the Bison get fed in the morning, all the farm animals in the barns, and getting to see so many miniature trains in the train museum was an absolute delight and brought out our inner child! Thanks for helping us reconnect with the train loving kid within!

Great novelty and wonderful surroundings

The good: The attention to detail in decorating was superb! The beds were comfortable. What a great novelty to stay in a caboose. TVs worked great. The property manager was immediately responsive and super helpful when our code didn’t work. She also kindly recommended some things we could do around the property. The not so good: My biggest complaint was that it was not as clean as I had expected, especially in times of a pandemic. One of the reasons I chose this place was the enhanced cleaning techniques that the website said they employed. Instead, the place was very dusty, there were fingerprints on the refrigerator door and on a window when we got there, crumbs on one of the tables in the kitchen. We were planning on wiping everything down when we got there due to the virus and I am very glad we were prepared. There was also no soap in the bathroom dispenser but I did not report it since there was plenty in the kitchen so we just used that. The water was not great for drinking, so we just got bottled water and ice from the store. I’m sure we won’t remember any of that though and instead we’ll remember seeing the buffalo out the window and the wonderfully unique experience of sleeping in a caboose!

Unique Stay in a Thoughtfully renovated Tiny Home

Very unique and impressive use of space. I do wish there were white linens and a dishwasher but those are personal preferences that don't overall impact the quality of this stay. Kids enjoyed the loft, deck and seeing the animals. Overall, a great stay!

Excellent Family Experience!

We have stayed at several BNB rentals in the past, but this topped the cake! The accommodations were perfect ( I would suggest extra blankets if you bring 4 kids and loft for maybe age 5+) but everything else was so perfect. The small details add up like local coffee ready for you by the coffee ☕️ pot to the specialized sign greeting you when you walk in. Bring your hiking shoes! There is a lot to explore. The game room was also fun. We only stayed one night but next visit will be two! We want to take advantage of feeding the goats and a few things we didn’t have time to do like the fire 🔥 pit! I’d suggest this for any family with young kids or even a couples trip. Side note, not on the property but walking distance from it is a great fishing spot on the river!

Great fun but a few glitches

Giving five stars because overall the caboose is so much fun and the property is as well. The caboose is decorated very nicely and it’s basically a very cute tiny home. I thought it made good use of space, and we very much enjoyed the deck outside which is where we ate all of our meals. I absolutely love Buffalo and was thrilled to see them each morning. You pretty much only saw them in the morning time when they headed in that general direction for the breakfast. There are also a lot more animals on the property that you can visit and feed including miniature horses, goats, turkey, bunnies etc. there is a playground on the property although make sure you put on your walking shoes as it is a fairly steep hike LOL. We did visit their little store and bought several things. Be aware that no one is wearing a mask if that concerns you. I have three complaints on the interior. The biggest one was the bed in the master. The sheets are polyester which I understand people buy because they dry very quickly. But they’re pretty uncomfortable. There was also no blanket, just the comforter, which I have no idea if they wash or not. The second issue was the upstairs loft bed. It was a good 10 or 15° hotter up there than it was downstairs and basically it was unusable even though it was only about 80° outside and we had the air conditioning on inside. There was a fan up there but it was not working. I’m not sure if a fan would have actually solved it though. Last concern was the dishes. When you leave, you wash your own dishes by hand. Given the state of the world right now, I just wish there had been a dishwasher or a way to sanitize them better. We ended up re-washing the dishes before we use them. All in all it was a fantastic experience though and I would recommend!

A night away

I decided to take my kids on a little adventure overnight. We did some hiking and made our way to the buffalo farm. They were surprises at every turn! All the different animals and the cabooses! Awesome experience to have and we will come back again! (If im being honest, the only thing i wasnt too excited about was the cleanliness of the caboose and lack of people wearing masks during a pandemic).

My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 4 log homes & have been renting them out since 2004. Once my husband retires from the US Army in about 5 yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!

Why they chose this property

My father had a love for trains & it was his idea to purchase the cabooses & turn them in to vacation rentals, We thought it would be very cool to tie in w/ the bison. Kind of gives it an 'ol western feel! Most folks think you have to go out west to see bison & they are surprised to find a herd in the Smoky Mountains of NC!

What makes this property unique

While staying at in our 1960's restored caboose we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranquility of being secluded on 65 acres. The children will just love looking out the windows & literally seeing the bison roaming out in the pasture!
Another great amenity is the kids being able to "unplug" & take a hike to our custom designed playground as well as seeing the miniature horse, buffalo, goats & llamas.
