About this property
Weekly rental on Lake Superior in Eagle Harbor (Saturday to Saturday ONLY)
Weekly rental. Saturday to Saturday ONLY.
This 1,500 sq. ft. home is located on Great Sand Bay near the village of Eagle Harbor in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Situated on State Highway M-26, also known as Sand Dunes Drive, the Keweenaw Hodge Podge Lodge is located about halfway between the villages of Eagle River and Eagle Harbor. Frequent visitors to the area will know about The Jampot, just a four or five minute walk to the west.
The original 600 sq. ft., one-story structure was built some 50 years ago and was a typical summer cottage with two rooms: the bedroom with a small bathroom and a great room that contained the kitchen and living space. In the 1990's, a modern two-story 900 sq. ft. addition was completed with two bedrooms and a shared half bath upstairs, while downstairs is the living room and full bathroom complete with tub/shower. The original portion is now open space with the kitchen, dining area and family room all in one area with a separate laundry room.
The house sleeps six with the two bedrooms upstairs, one bedroom with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds and two bunk beds. There is a full bathroom downstairs.
For those that want to cook, there is a refrigerator, stove and oven, charcoal grill, and a variety of cooking utensils available for use. A coffee pot, microwave, crock pot, griddle and toaster oven are also provided. You will need to bring your own cooking supplies, spices, etc.
Very good cell coverage is available from Verizon (that is the only option) at the property but as you travel around the Keweenaw you will find many dead spots and coverage will switch between carriers. WiFi is provided and is the only option for watching television as the home is located in an area that cannot receive a signal and there is no cable or satellite provided. Feel free to bring your own Firestick / Chromecast / Roku device and sign into your home account. Download speeds are approximately 4 - 8 Mbps which is adequate for average resolution. There is a DVD player and a small number of DVDs to watch or bring your own!
Walking out the front door, down five stairs and then about 20 steps brings you to the beach! The washed rocks are smooth and easy to walk on and typically extend just into the water where you will find rocks and sand for a few feet before turning into all sand. The water is clear and clean and can be deceptively cold, after all it is Lake Superior! You can wade, swim or kayak right from the beach. This is the perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening listening to the waves, watching the sunsets and catching a glimpse of the many bald eagles that frequent the shoreline.
Located in the Keweenaw (KEY-wuh-naw) Peninsula, many visitors and locals consider this to be the most beautiful part of the Upper Peninsula. The rugged shoreline is readily accessible to fishermen, boaters, kayakers, divers and swimmers and there are several marinas nearby including Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor and Lac La Belle as well as several boat launches providing access to smaller lakes. The inland areas are heavily wooded with maples, oaks, poplars and pines creating beautiful fall colors that rival many of the New England sights.
Just 18 miles away is Copper Harbor, the "end of the road", or as the sign says it is the beginning of US41. Only 1990 miles to Miami. Copper Harbor has become a destination for mountain biking and kayaking in the summer and downhill skiing and dog sled racing in the winter. From there, you can catch the Isle Royale Queen and take the 3 to 4 hour boat ride to Isle Royale National Park.
The main reason people visit is for the beauty, the peaceful environment and a reminder of how things used to be. Enjoy your stay!

Why they chose this property
Located close to our existing property and is in an ideal location for outdoor activities.
What makes this property unique
The views from the beach are spectacular. Some of our favorite things are: sitting on the beach and looking at the beautiful sunsets, listening to the sound of the waves, watching bald eagles fly overhead, looking for agates in the rocks, looking at the stars at night without all the city lights, enjoying meteor showers, catching a glimpse of black bear, feeding the deer at the nearby park.
