We were looking for something different to do a mini spring break for my daughter and some friends. The house has an amazing back area with all the amenities for canoeing and kayaking. The house is very spacious and clean. Lots of fun personal touches on our arrival!! It was just lovely.

Our Family New Years
This is a wonderful property, our family really enjoyed our stay. Our only regret is not staying longer. Once you arrive at the Wekiva River house there is no reason to leave. We enjoyed the quite and natural setting. The kayaking was such a wonderful way to relax and really enjoy forgetting the normal day to day. The french doors in the master and living room open up to a screened porch and since the weather was so nice we were able to keep them open day and night without the need for AC or heat (I think I liked this the most). Next time we visit this area we will be sure to come back.
Lauren's lake house is a beautiful property and very spacious. The home itself was outdated, could use some upgrading. We loved the outdoors the most but couldn't fully enjoy at night due to the bears in the area. There were a few bears roaming the property at night. The kitchen was fully equipped with the essentials needed which was a plus. My main concern with this home was the smell, wasn't too sure if the septic or water was having issues but throughout the home it reaped of rotten eggs. The cleaning also wasn't the best, there was hair left in the shower drains maybe from previous guest. The parking was more than enough for my family and I. For the amount paid I kind of expected a little more from the home, but we enjoyed and made the best of our Christmas.

Hello Lily, thank you for your review and thank you for your stay.
I apologize for the smell you experienced. When an abundance of people are at the property without my knowledge (20+ with your group) the water softener has a hard time keeping up. The smell you experienced was from the natural sulphur from the Florida spring we sit on top of. Although it has a slight smell, the water is actually full of nutrients and great for skin, hair and nails. If you would have alerted me during your stay about this problem I could have fixed the problem for you as it all just has to do with settings on the water softener system.
Also, I am sorry that you did not enjoy the natural setting of this home. We sit on the boarder of a state park, so there will obviously be wildlife in the area including bears, owls, hawks, deer, and turtles. This is usually a draw to the property for many. I have never had a problem with wildlife interacting with guests.
I wish I could say I look forward to hosting you again so that I can try better as a host, but after the way you and your group trashed my home with a large party, damaged my hardwood floors, and then threatened me with a negative review, I will not accept you as a guests again.
Thank you! :)

The smell that keeps giving... cameras everywhere outside!
I hate writing a bad review. In fact in the almost 20 years of renting with VRBO this is the very first one I’ve written a bad review for, I always read the reviews before choosing a property and if an honest one had been written I would have NEVER picked this property! So here we go... to start with the own needed to access the property multiple times which just feels invasive. There are cameras EVERYWHERE outside to “protect the property and make sure guests are following the rules.” I don’t know about you but I hate feeling like someone is watching me say nothing about a total stranger keeping tabs on me or my children! The owner sent a bunch of texts while we were there, which when I’m on vacation the last thing I want is to be tied to my phone, finding out when they can enter the property yet again because the security system isn’t working properly. It’s not like this was a last minute booking, get stuff done beforehand! I’ve never had to deal with this while vacationing. We did tape a paper towel over the camera that’s in the porch angled towards the dining room because I hate feeling like someone is watching us, maybe that doesn’t bother some people but I find it hard to relax knowing they’re watching to make sure we don’t have any parties and such, I was told. The house itself was beautiful and the location is very nice and quite. I’m thankful for the lovely gifts left to help mask the smell!! It has sulfur water that even after leaving the house for a several hour day trip we walk back in, and smell the most pungent smell STILL lingering, I guess from the showers and maybe the dishwasher running while we were out? We booked this as a family vacation and the kids could not get over the smell and hated the thought of bathing in it! The owner charges a cleaning fee however upon entering the property the fridge had not been touched, some food and beverages still in there. The last thing you want to do on a vacation is clean upon arrival. The floors could have used a good mopping as our feet were pretty black, not everyone likes to wear shoes while inside! The one toilet was dirty and had hairs, gross. The one bathroom shower would not turn on. Which no big deal, we just shared the master bathroom and got along fine. After the owner had been out 2 times already and we didn’t want a third visit, but don’t you think if they had cleaned this would’ve been noticed! . Again, overall it wasn’t disgusting but certainly not clean by my standards.

Hello Michelle, although I am generally sympathetic when a guests has an issue with our home, will do my best to address these falsehoods and lies one by one.
Yes, we do have a security system at the home. No, the security cameras that are on each corner of the home can not see inside the house. The security system was disclosed to you in our listing before booking. We have the cameras to not only protect our guests but to protect our home. After all this is OUR HOME and I will contact guests as much as I please while they are here. We have had guests lie about who they are and throw parties with 200+ people behind our back. Although a guest may claim they are a harmless family, when they cover a security camera it gives me pause...
Secondly, the Sulfer smell to the water. Yes, we are located on a natural spring that supplies water and minerals to our region. This is very normal for Florida. Bleaching water pipes and using harmful chemical additives to mask the “smell” is harmful to not only our guests but our beautiful environment. This is the first complaint we have ever had about our water in 3 years of short term rentals. All of our indoor water facets and showers utilize a Reverse Osmosis filtration system to filter the water to drinking standards.
Third, food being left in the refrigerator is unacceptable. However after speaking to my cleaning crew they claim the food left was unopened gifts and condiments.... so I again apologize for leaving items we determined as beneficial.
We continue to strive to give our guests a wonderful experience at the Retreat. And offer 24/7 support to our guests. In this situation the guest was offered extra cleanings and was asked if there was anything we could do to resolve any of these problems to which the guest denied.
I’m happy to answer any more questions you may have. Thank you!
Our family had a great time at this beautiful property on the Wekiva River. The house is gorgeous and very open, making it easy to visit with family while providing plenty of room for kids to play.
We totally enjoyed our stay! The property was amazing. Can’t think of anything negative. The host was super helpful and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend and would love to return.
Awesome house and accommodations for our family. Lauren was extremely helpful with suggestions for nearby entertainment and answering questions in a very timely manner. Book a stay here, you will love it.
Our team of 8 people set up in this amazing house to film videos for kids (in our church) featuring actors in a rainforest. Lauren was so incredible to host us and accommodate our needs. The house was perfect with a large living and kitchen space. The bedrooms were also a good size. We loved the big back porch and the outdoor patio. The walkway to the river was beautiful and from the dock, we could sit and enjoy various wildlife (lots of woodpeckers and an alligator)! Highly recommend this property!
The home and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. We were visiting family who lives in Orlando and tried our Sorrento for a few days during our stay. We brought my mother in law who lives in Florida with us to stay for a few days to explore a new area. Even she felt like she was on vacation at this peaceful retreat. The boys loved kayaking down the river and we enjoyed hiking at the state parks. Lauren was quick to respond and offer plenty of helpful recommendations in the area.
This stay was very relaxing, I’m not big on cameras everywhere but understand the host feels the need for security. Nice walkway to the dock and plenty of wildlife. House is big and beautiful. If you’re looking for a remote setting with neat towns 20-30 minutes away, this is the place for you.
Great Location for the “Gathering of Goddesses” Weekend
What a wonderful home! So clean and beautiful setting for our girls gathering! There was an issue or 2, but was taken care of by management without delay! Great communication and a great hub to Mount Dora for antiquing! Made some wonderful memories! Thanks for your hospitality!
Great communication with owner prior, during and after visit!
Property is one of the best vrbo ever! Clean, on river, wildlife —deer, owls, rabbits!
Nice , quiet neighborhood!!
We will be back
I cannot recommend this property enough. The home is gorgeous, well appointed and impeccably clean. The property manager went over and above to ensure we had an amazing stay and was so kind. Even though the online pictures are gorgeous they do not do this property justice. In person we were so impressed with how clean, gorgeous, spacious and peaceful this home actually is… We will definitely be back!!
Laura was very easy to communicate with. The property is very beautiful and very homey!
This was such an amazing home! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. It started out rough with the power being out two nights, but kept in constant contact with owners. I would highly recommend this to any large family get together! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
The 2020-2021 school year has been extremely trying and taxing on teachers. When 3 friends all had birthdays within days of each other we knew it was time for a getaway that would carry us to the end of the school year. We cannot express how peaceful the environment was. We had so much fun getting in the kayaks and paddling the river. The fire pit was thoroughly enjoyed. And that massive kitchen was perfect for a group gathering. This was so wonderful we would definitely head back.
