Amenities not shown in current photos include large outdoor fire pit in yard, new clothes washer and dryer, larger and lower dining table (great for kids!), and newer art on the walls.
Relax and enjoy the north woods of Wisconsin from your private two bedroom retreat offering a full bath, screened in porch and complete kitchen. This cute, year round cabin is the perfect place for relaxing. Whether you spend time watching the river flow by, stargazing on crystal clear nights, entertaining friends around a campfire, or taking on more strenuous activities like skiing, snowshoeing, swimming, trout fishing, hiking, and berry picking, this 900 sq. ft. cabin provides a comforting retreat from hectic day-to-day life.
The cabin’s simple layout combines the 16×12 living room with the 15×12 kitchen & dining area. There are 2 carpeted bedrooms and a full bath. The 16×10, 3-season porch adds more living space from spring through fall, including delightful "overflow" sleeping quarters.
Enjoy three lushly wooded acres, your piece of forest heaven, adjacent to the 400-acre Lincoln Community Forest. The large, level backyard contains a big stone fire pit and a couple of hammock-hanging trees. Dry firewood, a charcoal grill, and charcoal are provided.
A gentle, mowed slope leads down to a shallow entry spot on the Marengo river, a DNR-designated trout stream. The rocky river bottom slopes down to a great swimming hole in gentle current just upstream, and riffles downstream. Water shoes are recommended.
Just across the road from the cabin is the main trailhead for 3.5 miles of groomed cross-country skiing and rugged hiking trails in the Lincoln Community Forest, a nonprofit-managed forest property. The LCF is open to public hunting, fishing, non-motorized trail use, and trapping. Forest access is free for all users.
Close by are many popular recreation spots and hidden gems in and around the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. It's a 15-minute drive to the very popular Morgan Falls and St. Peter's Dome trail and half an hour to Copper Falls State Park. Other nearby gems include the Porcupine Lake Wilderness, Rainbow Lakes Wilderness, Lakes Owen and Namekagon (public recreation areas with beaches), St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, and dozens of miles of ski and mountain bike trails in the Drummond, Rock Lake, North End, and Birkie trail networks.
Spend a day (or five!) hiking through wilderness on the North Country National Scenic Trail, or head half an hour's drive north to relax in the cool breeze of Chequamegon Bay and take in the shops and restaurants in Ashland, the closest big town with all the services and home to the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. A further 35 minutes takes you to Bayfield, the Madeline Island ferry, and the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
Note that this is an older cabin that has some maintenance issues that are not fixable--a windowpane we haven't been able to get replaced, doors that stick a little, inconsistent water pressure. Most guests find it homey; if you are expecting a professionally-run resort, that is not what this is. This is our family cabin that we rent out for as cheap as we can when we're not using it.
There is little cell service and no internet at the cabin. There is no landline available. There was public WiFi at Four Corners Saloon, about a 15 minute drive, but the Saloon is closing and this may no longer be available.

Amazing location! Secluded woods all to yourself. Walking trails across the street. ATV route right out the driveway. Had a wonderful fun filled 4 days building lots of memories with our family. Highly recommend! I know we will be back for sure!!
We got pretty attached to this sweet cabin in the woods during our stay. It's pretty far out from civilization and it was an adjustment being without cell and internet service but that was exactly the experience we were looking for on our ladies long weekend in the wilderness.
We stayed here for eight nights and loved every minute. It's an ideal place to unplug from the internet, unwind with a good book, and connect with nature. There's a little trick to finding cell phone reception: just turn left and walk about 200 yards along the road in front of the property. It's not very strong, but it's enough to check your email.
Beautiful remote location to get away. 30 minutes from the lake and 1-2 hours from Copper Falls and Bayfield parks. Cozy cabin with lots of wildlife around (Black bears, Deer, skunks etc.) AC and heat work great outdoors were beautiful, but make sure to bring mosquito spray as it is woods by water. Will come back again in the future!

Was a perfect place to relax and spend some quality time with my child
Just as advertised. It was nice to unplug at the cabin with no internet or cell service. Sitting and listening to nature and watching the fire flies at night were a highlight
A quiet little rustic cabin in a perfect location! Right on the ATV trails so we could ride right from the driveway. Peaceful nights by the fire with the sounds of the babbling river right there. No WiFi forced our teens to be present which was amazing!! Over all an outstanding stay that exceeded our expectations. We are already planning when we can go back.

No WiFi is such an important feature for our family too! I'm glad you got some good peaceful times.
This cabin and property had everything our group of 4 needed for a relaxing and adventure-filled stay. There was clearly so much care put into making the cabin inviting for everyone, from all the activities to the organization of all of the necessities. The stream and surrounding woods were stunning and we adored exploring the area of the property and the nearby community forest. Thank you so much for opening your lovely cabin up for others!
This cabin was exactly the privacy and lack of inernet/cell service we desperately needed. Spacious enough that we're debating bringing a group next time! Some of the old VHS tapes and equipment/anemities were like a step back in time. Quiet, charming, and within driving distance (30-40 miles) of many great hiking spots and food. Honestly can't wait to come back!
This little cabin is no frills and exactly what we were looking for. No internet, no phone service, and no tv (other than dvd's and vhs tapes) it was like stepping back in time to before everyone became tethered to technology. The quiet of the woods, and the relaxing sounds of the babbling curtent of the river was amazing.

It really is like going back to my childhood, when if you were going to watch something, you had to watch it together because there was only one screen. I'm so glad you liked it.

Cute but not clean
The cabin is very cute and the location is lovely. However, it is not clean and several things needed repair. It is a drive to get to anywhere but we enjoyed the secluded feel. A little TLC and this cabin could be a 5 star.

I am sorry the condition of the cabin was not up to your standards. We clean after every guest and do our best to keep things in good shape. It would help to know what specifically you found in disrepair so we can take care of it for the next guests. Guests should keep in mind that it is a small cabin in the woods, and as such may be a bit more rustic than a VRBO accommodation you would find in a major urban or suburban area.
About the host
Hosted by Zee Lemke
We are a family residing in Duluth, Minnesota who decided to live our dream of owning a small cabin in the great North Woods. Carl went to college in Ashland at Northland College and fell in love with the Chequamegon Bay area. Zee grew up in Madison, where we met when both of us were in grad school at the University of Wisconsin. We are delighted to be able to share our little piece of paradise with friends and with other nature lovers seeking a woodsy retreat away from city life.
Since Carl's unexpected loss in the spring of 2024, I (Zee) have been operating the property solo. Carl loved this cabin and he loved sharing it with you, and I hope it brings you the peace it brought him.
Why they chose this property
We first saw this cabin listed on Zillow a full year before we purchased it, and thought, "wouldn't it be nice to own something like that someday?" Nice and cozy, no frills but well-kept, deep in the woods with direct access to water and trails, and in the middle of all the great haunts south of Ashland. Lo and behold, a year later the property was still on the market, and through some new employment and a little luck we gained the means to make our dream a reality.
What makes this property unique
As the fridge magnet says, "There is no wifi in the forest, but we promise you will find a better connection."
Carl personally improved the property every spring for the six years he owned it with me. He and our handy site caretaker re-did the roof, dug the fire pit and carried stones to line it, built the lean-to for firewood, and re-built the front porch. The heat pump was Carl's idea and he did all the research to get the most energy-efficient technology out to the woods. If you flip through the atlas, you can see where he marked his favorite spots. The cabin is quirky and down-to-earth, just like the man who poured so much love into it.
