Note: Update as of 2024...we have changed one LARGE bedroom to two normal rooms making a THREE bedroom + separate bunk bed room. Our place is close to parks for hiking and biking, restaurants and dining, gold mining, the Historic Julian town and beer and wine tasting. Lake Cuyamaca is a short drive away where you can rent a paddle boat or test your fishing skills. You’ll love our cabin because for a mountain home, it has a refreshing amount of space for all to spread out and relax without feeling crowded. It has the perfect mix of vintage charm with modern amenities and the game room entertains kids and adults alike.
PERFECT MOUNTAIN GETAWAY! This is the home you picture when you decide to spend time away in the country. It is located in the beautiful wooded neighborhood of Pine Hills about 4 miles from the historic town of Julian at an elevation of approximately 4,000 feet. Various fruit trees decorate the property adding to the characteristics of the retreat.
Once you enter, you find a delightful mix of the old west and country chic. There are THREE large bedrooms and two full bathrooms plus a half bathroom. The master bedroom with an en suite bathroom has a king sized bed and an attached bunk room with a pocket door for privacy. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed and attached large bathroom. The final bedroom has charming twin beds, perfect for kids or those who enjoy their own sleeping space. There is also a pull out queen couch in the family room.
The open well lit living room draws you in to a comfortable and rich area with couches and chairs circling the propane fireplace. The dining room just calls out for the family to pull up a chair and sit together over a home cooked country meal. The open floor plan allows guests to dabble in the kitchen while visiting with others in the living room and dining area. There are even counter stools, ready for you to pull up and sit for a while. The kitchen is a delightful step back in time, while boasting all new appliances. The sink is an amazing old washtub and the cabinets mix a touch of old and new. The appliances include a large refrigerator, a dishwasher and an oven/stove.
If you want a little time off to yourself, you can tear yourself away to the lovely sitting room with more chairs and a couch where you can curl up with your favorite book, work on puzzles, or watch a movie on the television (note: there is no cable tv). Although this already is enough for any fabulous getaway, throw in the huge game room in the back of the home. There is a full sized ping pong table, foosball, cornhole & plenty of sitting room and comfortable furniture for bringing the entire group together for real family time. Everyone can sit and watch the ping pong game, visit with each other, curl up in a chair or on a couch, and just enjoy. The home also has a large pass through window directly from the kitchen, so while everyone visits, snacks, treats and tasty delights can be passed through to all the guests.
And once the sun sets, there is nothing like the Julian sky at night. Without the distracting glow of the lights in the city, the sky is blanketed with so many stars that feel as if they are close enough to reach out and touch. Deer wander around the property, as do wild turkeys and a host of other wildlife. As guests, you will simply melt into the surroundings and find all your stress and worry floats away. A calm and quiet found no where else surrounds you and you will never want to leave the mountain.

We came for ladies’ weekend getaway and this home was perfectly suited for our needs. Check in and check out were easy, the home was well-stocked with items we needed for cooking, and there was plenty of space for us to be comfortable. I would stay here again.

So glad you had a great time and really hope you come back again!
Very comfortable, very clean. Lots of extra special touches along with beautiful decor. Wish we could have stayed a week. Felt like home. Could add some better outside seating. But again this is a 5 star stay!

Thank you Diane, so glad you had a great time. As for outdoor seating, it's on my wish list to build a deck out there and more seating....all in good time (and money!). :) Hope you come back again and stay longer to enjoy all there is do nearby. All the best.
We stayed at this location in July 2021 and were delighted to be back in January 2024. The point of contact was helpful as we had questions throughout our stay. We had more than enough comfortable quilts and blankets for our very chilly stay, and the heater worked wonderfully! We enjoyed the tree swing and the game room again, along with the ease of traveling into town. Thank you again for our amazing stay!

Thank you so much for staying again! We hope to see you in the future. :)
The property had plenty of parking, great outdoor spaces to enjoy and an amazing game room to hangout in! The only challenge was to keep the kitchen sink working properly as there is no disposal and the water didn’t drain very well. All in all a great weekend, close to lots of awesome outdoor activities and plenty to do right on site.

Beautiful Getaway!
This home is very beautiful and roomy. It worked so well with my large family. There was a lot of room to spread out and many choices for everyone in terms of where to sleep. We enjoyed the ping pong and darts very much and loved the space. When a question arose, Joanna was right on top of getting back to me and helping us out. We'll definitely rent this home again!

Thanks so much for staying, we hope you come back again. Have a great 2019!
What a great place to stay for the whole family. We spent Christmas here and it was the best place to stay. Accommodated everyone from baby, to toddler to young adult to grandma. The small details and amenities were all here. The game room is fantastic. Beds are comfy. We cooked a prime rib dinner for 12 in the kitchen with room to spare, Part of our family stayed at another place in town and they all loved this home. So welcoming. The owner went above and beyond in communicating with us. The pictures don't do this home justice. Really great, great roomy place to stay. Very clean. Thank you Jonna for your hospitality.

Thanks so much, we are so happy you enjoyed the well deserved holiday vacation!! Hope you come back again.
Good: ping pong table, quiet bed rooms, stocked pantry, fruit trees around, close to lake cuyamaca, Eagle mining company (gold), saw deers, turkeys, ton of turkey vultures, great sunset near by.
Bad: bed room pictures for the same room with different bedding make it look like more than one.
Wish the play room has Enough light to play Ping pong.
With play room has AC.
Wish washer and dryer are available for guests.
Please remove those pictures to avoid confusion.

Glad you had a good time overall. In regards to your suggestions, we are looking at additional lighting options in the game room, unfortunately a/c is not an option in that room due to it's size and lack of ducting. And unfortunately, our laundry is in our stock room and we have had too many bad experiences with people using additional supplies and leaving it in disarray. :( In regards to the rooms, I encourage future guests to review the bedroom count and bed counts prior to booking. Thanks again for staying and for the review!
This place was definitely spacious enough for our family which we appreciated. It was clean and looked well taken care off. We went in the winter and it happened to snow so it was super cold. The back bathroom was freezing cold so we used the front one for our entire stay. The back bedroom doesn’t heat as well as the other rooms but it was okay. Also, just know that sometimes the heat blows out cold air in extremely cold temperatures as stated in the book at the property. It’s fine if you want to stay in front of the fireplace to keep warm but that wasn’t for us. Overall, we had a good time and would highly consider returning in the warmer months to better utilize the game room and do some exploring.

Glad you had a nice stay and got to experience the snow. Sorry to hear you weren't warm enough, we do have space heaters available for you and extra blankets that usually do the trick but sorry it still was chilly. We do hope you come back again when it's a bit warmer and enjoy the different seasons of Julian! Our favorite is Spring :)

Lovely place, but a little stingy with amenities (for the price)
My star rating is positive overall-responsive host, lovely and unique property, clean... However, the fact that the propane fireplace (not only a heating source, but promoted as ambiance in the advertisement) only worked for about two hours of our 3 night stay. The response was that "it might be out of propane...we have a deliver scheduled." For the cost, I expected the propane to be full! There was one roll of paper towels, few bath towels, no boxes of Kleenex, one sponge, few dish towels, little dishwashing liquid, almost no cleaning supplies...we had to have someone bring the items from home, which was not only a hassle, but annoying. The game room is great for visiting kiddos. Unfortunately, it needed some updates to its board games and ping pong table, balls, and paddles. It is a beautiful location just far enough from town to feel like you are a long way from home. This review is not meant to deter folks from this property, but more as feedback to the owner and manager.

We are sorry that the trip was not up to your expectations but would also like to make sure that guests get what they expect in our airbnb so I would like to take the time to respond. The propane issue was very unfortunate, however, after you had left, I was made aware the tank had adequate propane. As I mentioned in our messages, sometimes with the wind (or misuse of the stove and forced air at the same time), the pilot light blows out. I did suggest that you contact our property manager to see is it was out an have it re-lit, however no contact was made. Perhaps there were more people there than you had indicated so you did not want her there. We do always set the house to the amount of people indicated in the reservation. This includes toilet paper (typically 1-2 rolls per bathroom), a fresh roll of paper towels, a fresh sponge, 2-3 kitchen towels, a large basket of "clean-up" towels for any spills, approximately 6 ounces of dishsoap, dishwasher liquid, hand soap, napkins and limited cleaning supplies such as all purpose cleaner as we do not expect our guests to deep clean (per our house manual supplies located under the cabinet next to the sink). We rarely have complaints about the amount of supplies so it is unfortunate that this did not suffice. For future guests, I have ordered new paddles as it was time to do that and there are a lot of games, some of them older, yes but we still leave them out for guests to use at their discretion. We take great pride in our 5 star reviews and hope future guests will see that here and on other platforms.
While most of the family was disappointed that we were not staying at the beach. They were shocked when i told them itvwas only a two bedroom. Reluctantly our trip began and i was very much looking forward to it. Once the door was opened simple entry with code no fuss turn the key and shocker there was so much room for the nine of us to spread out the first thing my youngest said was mom they need better pictures to market this place it is so nice it has a very neat set up and 3 bathrooms 🚻 😀 comes with all things needed to cook plates, cups , pots, everything be sure to read the description of all that is included. We left 108 ° heat in the desert to a warm but nice retreat. The host has books, magazines, and a large gameroom with lots of room for hanging out. Ping pong 🏓 and board games for all ages. The grandkids were pleasently surprized to see they had toys in there bunk room just off one of the bedrooms. Julian is a jump away 4 miles and there we had pie and sandwiches and shopped the local market. Enjoyed walking around. That evening we took a long stroll around the friendly neighborhood and relaxed inside and out. Directions of what is expected from guests are very easy to follow. No issues with reaching host as host responds to your questions promptly very nice stay. Thank you to host Joanna

Thank you Anita, we do hope you come back again in the future!
Wonderful quiet comfortable mountain getaway. Close to Julian and a short drive to San diego.
We had a wonderful extended weekend. Plenty of room for my family and the in-laws. Great layout and the gameroom was perfect for my boys to play. We would rent this retreat again.
We were pleased to see that the house looked even nicer in person than in the photos! It's very spacious, with several bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a nice-sized kitchen, dining area, living room, large game room, and very comfortable TV room. The wifi Internet service worked great- there's good coverage throughout the house and it's definitely fast enough to stream TV & movies. We also had good cell phone reception (T-Mobile).
The kitchen was well-stocked with cookware and utensils, and all the appliances you'd expect: Fridge, oven/stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, and a large sink. The weather was cold when we stayed (mid-November), but the central heat kept the house nice and warm. The home is in a nice and quiet mountain community, and we saw more turkeys and deer than people! We had a wonderful time at Jonna's home and would definitely stay again in the future. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing stay.
My husband and I rented this house for 2 of our kids and their families. The layout of the house was fun for the kids and easy for the adults with the play room right off the kitchen. The window in the kitchen allowed the adults to watch and manage the kids playing while preparing meals or even just hanging out. Also, the ability to put the little kids to bed early in separate parts of the house while allowing the bigger kids and adults to watch tv without disturbing them was key. We will be renting again when we have another family get together.
This cozy cabin is tucked away in a beautiful friendly Neighborhood. It came with a well stocked kitchen and was very clean. It was 95 degrees outside so the AC was a relief for myself and girls when we got back from our adventures.
Thank you so much! The bunk beds are not comfortable enough for adults but for kids it should be fine. Also the bunks seemed a bit wobbly. There are 2 e-bikes that my co Girl Scout leader and I took a spin on. Very fun!!! The black e-bike has squeaky breaks that need a check but it didn’t damper the fun. :-). The owner is very attentive and easy to communicate with.
I would love to visit again this winter with my family.
We had a great stay. The home is nicely decorated and had plenty of amenities. We enjoyed access to the electric bikes.
For the size of the home I expected access to a washer and dryer which would have very helpful with children. I do not recall whether it was excluded in the listing.
The owner refunded our pet deposit when we notified her we were not bringing our pet. We appreciated that.
The house was big and in a nice neighborhood. All directions for using the house were perfect.Nice hikes in nearby areas.Julian is very charming.

About the host

We love to travel and try to do it as often as possible! I grew up in the mountains in Northern CA (Matt is a SD native). While I love living in San Diego, the mountain girl in me misses the trees and open space. We bought this home in 2016 and are thrilled to share it with others. It truly is a magical place.
Why they chose this property
The trees, the area for the kids to play in back, the generous amount of space even though it's a two bedroom. I also love that it's perfect for two families with family "suites".
What makes this property unique
I loved all the rustic touches that were there from the previous owner, the authentic antiques, hand painted signs and wood details. But with all the rustic elements, it's a clean, contemporary home as hope you love it as much as we do!
