Hidden Treasure on the way to Yosemite Valley full of Native American History
Tenaya's Retreat is tucked away in Midpines directly on the route to Yosemite Valley! We welcome you to our Family Retreat. We chose the name Tenaya's Retreat after Chief Tenaya. He was the last chief of our tribe known as the Ahwahneechees, Yosemite Indians. On the walls are pictures of our ancestors going back six generations, along with a picture of our mother, Princess Tenaya with Cheif LeeMee. This property was given to our Great-Great Grandmother Tu-Tu-Ya (foaming water) or Maira Lebrado in 1892 from her husband. Unfortunately she lost the property for unpaid taxes (so they say). However in 2016 our sister was able to get the property back into our family. We hope you enjoy your stay and find beauty and serenity here like our ancestors.
When you arrive at the home you will immediately feel welcomed by the peacefulness of the surroundings. The front door enters into a living room with a large couch for relaxing along with a flat screen tv and the historic wall of our honored ancestors. Past the living room is a large fully stocked kitchen, with everything you would need for your stay and a cute breakfast nook! Directly out the door of the kitchen is a private patio with an outdoor dining set and a BBQ. The house has 3 bedrooms, with tv's in each bedroom, and 2 bathrooms. This is a perfect house for traveling with family or friends. Its just a short drive to Yosemite. Yosemite's park gate is about 20 miles from the house. This is a perfect location to come home to, after a day in the park, to relax and BBQ!! The town of Mariposa is only 7 miles away, where there is a large grocery store, gas stations, boutique shopping and many excellent restaurants.

Our stay was extremely convenient and well stocked with a full kitchen and ample space for four adults split between three rooms. The location was very close to Mariposa and about as close to Yosemite as you can be. We would book again.
A clean and comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood with a decor that celebrates a community and a family's history. Located just off a state highway, Tenaya's Retreat served as an excellent home base for multiple day trips to Yosemite National Park. The property exceeded our expectations and we felt very welcomed by our host from the moment we arrived. Should we have the opportunity to return to Yosemite, we will look to return to Tenaya's Retreat.
Nice place just a short, scenic drive to Yosemite Valley
Our family of 5 was very comfortable staying in this charming property. We took a short drive to Mariposa Grove the first day and Yosemite Valley the second. We were very pleased how close this location was to both attractions.

Very clean and comfortable place for my family of 3. Impeccable cleanliness and well stocked kitchen. A perfect choice to stay when travel to Yosemite.
This place was absolutely fabulous. The host has anything you could think of to make the stay as accommodating as possible. Communication was top notch. Definitely will be back.
A welcoming space for our family that was in the area to see Yosemite. Definitely would recommend staying here. A lovely location and comfortable home.
The property exceeded our expectations - great location, sparkling clean, and well-kept, with all the amenities one could hope for. We'd love to come back again!
What a great stay at a great house. It was perfectly located for all our adventures! Check in was a breeze, we settled in right away. It was like we were at our home, so warm and welcoming. The kitchen had everything we needed. I loved the washer and dryer! I so appreciate the history of the house, thanks for sharing it with us. I’d stay here again.

The location of this property for Yosemite is awesome. Including the gas station right down the street. Although, the road to get to the house is a bit rough, it's short. Lots of space at this location, and a few of our favorites were the working ice maker, plentiful beds, location history, snacks, and good toilet paper. Also, the views on the back deck while we ate dinner were great. My kids especially loved the turkeys and listening to the frog outside the window. It was also close to Mariposa for food and shopping. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Yosemite.
We loved this vacation extra because of where we got to lay out head at night. Plenty of space for the 5 of us. Having that extra bathroom made a huge difference. We loved that we could do breakfast in the front yard with adequate shade and dinner on the back deck. We brought a few things from home like spices and foil but didn't ever need to open up the bag bc everything was fully stocked. They even had a coffee grinder! For us, the location was prime bc we spent our time on the river. If you're traveling in the hotter months and you have younger children who stay in the bunk bed room, if recommend using the window can that is in the master closet. We didn't see it until the day we left. Might have made for an easier night for my girls. When we come back next year we hope this home is available!
Everything was great and met our needs. Wonderful private and peaceful location. My only suggestion has nothing to do with the property, but check-in. We didn’t receive the email with code until day of arrival. I would suggest noting that in your description. Otherwise, the guests are not sure if they missed it or they were forgotten about. Not to mention, they have no idea about cell service when they travel in locations they are not familiar with. As a fellow property owner myself, we send the code one week prior to arrival (for those overzealous planners like myself). Just a thought and not a knock on the place.

As described, the home is a hidden. The house had all commodities so that you really feel home.
We have a toddler and he was able to run around without disturbing anybody except some wild animals.
We enjoyed so very much our stay at this residence. It was fully stocked with all kinds of condiments, etc. It is out of the way and so very quiet. We enjoyed the history of the property and the entire ambiance of the home. In fact, we would have enjoyed knowing more about the family members pictured on the wall such as names and a short history of each. We were also curious as to whether all of the properties around it had also originally been owned by Native Americans and undergone the same fate as the property on which we stayed. We would definitely stay there again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Loved this stay - the home is comfortable, unique, has a true feeling of sincere important history, is very thoughtfully decorated to reflect the history and the area, is unusually well equipped for individuals, couples, or families, and is located in a beautiful, peaceful area. Had a bit of an extended stay, and they were totally helpful and responsive to my questions and needs. Very likely to return. Found it to be soul-soothing!
The home was very comfortable, and the location was great. We had a really good time having family breakfast on the deck in the backyard, and our kids also had fun running and playing around the large frontyard and backyard.

The place is wonderful, cozy, nice and clean. We have bountiful amenities and everything we need.
We had a great time at Tanya's Retreat. The yard area was so nice and peaceful. She had cornhole for us as well which was fun! The kitchen was very well stocked, even with spices. Loved all the photos throughout out of the park. One MAJOR thing wad the beds are not hard as rocks with still pillows and bedding. They were actually fairly comfortable and that makes a HUGE difference! One thing I would advise is to make sure you write down the code to get in before you get in. Service is pretty shotty or non existent. We would definitely stay here again if we visit the area in the future.
