We had a great time here our host was wonderful and helpful. This is a large house with lots of fun stuff to do games and hiking. We enjoyed the hot tub.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. The surrounding woods and trails were beautiful and so secluded. The cabin was simple rustic, fun activities, and a warm wood burning stove. The host was awesome and so accommodating. Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing stay.
Very friendly host and even friendlier dogs! The accommodations were charming and the amenities were stellar. Thank you for having us and thank you for the hiking and restaurant recommendations! Give Piper and Honey some scratches for us please :)
What a beautiful home and home owner. Thank you for the hospitality. A special thank you to Rosie and Mr sir Lancelot for the warm welcome, guided hikes and puppy snuggles. We hope to be back soon.
Diane has a well appointed house that is clean, cozy, well stocked with luxurious bedding. We very much enjoyed the hot tub, the hike down to the tunnel, cooking in the kitchen and building fires. The icing on the cake is having friendly pups come over! Would definitely stay again
There is lots of indoor and outdoor fun for kids. The house is very private and well stocked. Only a 15 minute drive to Rollins lake. And Diane was a great host!
Pictures dont do justice on how beautiful Dianes place is! Perfect for family getaways. Great location too! Would love to use again! Thanks for being so accommodating Diane!
We stayed at Diane’s cabin with our friends and pets for a valentine getaway. Diane is the great host. Not only she showed us the amenities in the cabin, but also gave us lots of recommendations around the area. Especially love her hand drawing map. Definitely would love to come back. And Piper 4ever!
You will not be sorry for choosing to stay @ Dianes house she the perfect hostess of the mostest we love her look forward to renting this property many more times in the future...thank you Diane for all your recommendations
Diane was such a great host. She met us at arrival and gave us a tour of the house and property. Such a nice warm and inviting environment. Loved the rustic feel of the place. To top it off, she had 2 of the most cutest sweetest dogs. We look forward to visiting again 😊
Wonderful place. Beautiful private setting. Hiking right out the door. Very clean. Well thought out for comfort of guests. Plenty to do with horseshoes, tetherball, firepit, books, games, ping-pong and more. Highly recommend for a family getaway.
Beautiful location for my daughter's wedding reception. The host was wonderful throughout our stay, making sure we had everything we needed. We did, and even what we didn't know we needed she had! There is a hot tub in the trees, and if you don't want to be outside in the hot tub, the bathroom has a spa tub that looks out to the trees as if you were in a tree house. There are so many things to do here, badminton, ping pong, hammock, hiking, and the list goes on. The home felt like a log cabin, and was decorated so you can throw off your shoes and stay awhile. Such a peaceful location for a get-away. I highly recommend staying here.

Girls get away
This was the 5 annual getaway for myself, elderly mom & my sister. This was the location for our first outing. After trying others in Northern California we came back here. It is beautiful, relaxing with all the amenities we could want. Diane is a wonderful caring host. Couldn’t ask for more. We decided that this will be our “forever” retreat location

I love having return guests - especially this family! So glad they are so happy with our Gold Run Mountain House that they come back every year. I look forward to having them again next year and the year after...
This lovely and amazing VRBO hosted by Diane, who went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, made for a wonderful romantic getaway for two that we can easily see extending to a week's stay with the whole family. Diane has set the house up to be very generously appointed, with everything from martini glasses to a rice cooker, making it feel like a home away from home (with way more options for entertaining). The space is quiet, clean, and private, yet fun, with plenty to do both indoors and outdoors. We enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks, exploring nature, and sitting outside losing track of time. This retreat is perfect for anyone looking for a serene escape with a touch of adventure! We first stayed for a romantic getaway for two but will definitely be bringing our kids back one day because it's going to be just as nice when they are with us.
Diane was a great hostess. She contacted me soon after booking and let me know what to expect until check-in time. It is clear that she has been doing this for a long time.Upon arrival, she greeted us and showed us around. All the fire pits were nicely prepped and easy to start. Our daughters loved the games and toys she had. It was a perfect getaway for kids of all ages. She even had a VCR with Disney movies! Each night we watched a different movie, and it was a nice throwback. The only thing that could have made it any better was if there had been snow outside.
Nothing bad to say here, the location is amazingly secluded. One thing to note, you are very close to the owners property. I was nervous at first because to be honest we are recluses and the point of our vacation is getting away from people no matter how nice! We stayed a week and only ran into Diane once. She gave us total privacy which we truly appreciated and valued.
Her pups were adorable and added something special to our trip. Nothing is more healing than the combination of dogs and forest.
There's so much to do in the area and Diane seems very knowledgeable, I'd come back for sure.Thank you for your hospitality Diane, we are grateful for our time spent there.

Exactly what we wished for!
We are a group of intelligent, chatty, but overall, calm group of women. We wanted a cabin in the woods to help celebrate my bachelorette weekend and the place was perfect! Plenty of space for the introverts to retreat to, spacious and full kitchen, wonderful spa, plenty of sunshine & outside sitting, and cozy beds. The DVD system wasn't working one evening, but Diane came in and fixed it for us!
We also explored nearby Colfax, hiked around the gorgeous property, and swam out in Rollins Lake. Lovely, LOVELY weekend and a great host!
I did manage to get several bug bites around one eye while sleeping, but that is nobody's doing but nature. And we wanted nature!
Thank you, Diane!
I came with my 2 teen nephews, my 2 teen children and my dog for a getaway together. I rent houses like this at least once a year for several years now. This is hands down the best experience I’ve had with the owner of a property (and they’ve all been positive). She is above and beyond great to communicate with and deal with. The house has everything you could possibly need/want. It’s extremely clean, has SO many games and things to do, kitchen is fully stocked, etc. It’s really even better than the pictures can show. We are dog people, and Piper, the owner’s dog and our dog were friends immediately and we loved having her visit with us too. There is no area for improvement here. Best experience across the board. Beds are SO comfortable too!!! We will be coming back.
We loved staying at this property. It was super clean, beautifully isolated yet close to I-80, and had everything we needed. We would definitely return. Diane and her dog Piper are wonderful.
This mountain house is a great getaway for anyone who wants to enjoy the pines and/or escape from the hustle and bustle of normal daily life. Very gracious and helpful host. Comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen and bathrooms, lots of books, puzzles, and outdoor sports equipment, plus an outdoor spa and an indoor jacuzzi bathtub. Good hiking trails. About a 40 min drive to gold rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley and also to Donner Pass area. House located about 5-7 min drive off Hwy 80 in a secluded area with absolutely no traffic noise. A plus--if you like dogs--is friendly Piper who is always eager to be petted.

About the host
Hosted by Diane Stevenson
This picture is of me and my dog, Amy (she is in "dog heaven" now), as we were resting on the large rock outcropping that overlooks the American River canyon on our way down the Pickering Bar trail. We have a new dog named Piper who will gladly accompany you on any of the local hikes. (She thinks that is her job.)
Why they chose this property
I bought this as our family compound, but as lives change, so did ours. Using this home as a vacation rental has helped me to finance my son's college education. I have also been able to donate weekly reservations to the numerous good causes, including the Down's Buddy Walk and numerous fund raisers for the families of Cancer patients. I move in myself when we have company from out of town and pretend that I am 'on vacation' too! It's great!
What makes this property unique
I love hiking down into the 'diggings', exploring the old gold mining areas, swimming in the mountain lakes, sitting in the spa under the stars and just enjoying the quiet solitude of this gorgeous and peaceful setting.
