Red Rooster: Pet-Friendly Cottage in Mirror Lake w/ 2 Fire Pits & Fenced Yard

If you would like a cozy little pet-friendly cottage close to town, the Red Rooster Cabin is perfect! Located in the popular Mirror Lake area, the Red Rooster is only four minutes from town and yet on a remarkably quiet street. This home features everything you could want in a Highlands vacation: a new screened-in porch, a large deck, outdoor fire pit, and a large and totally fenced-in yard for your pet.
The open design of the main floor includes the kitchen, dining and living areas with a beautiful woodburning fireplace and comfortable new (2022) couch. The master bedroom is on the 1st floor and features a King-size bed and bath. Upstairs is a loft with two Twin beds (that can be converted into a king), a Twin-size trundle, the second bath, and an office nook.

*This is an animal-friendly property. Pets must be approved and a pet fee is required.*

[All of the homes managed by Highlands Vacation Rentals have wifi internet access(speeds may vary based on different providers), basic kitchenware & dishes, linens provided, and a starter set of amenities including: 2 toilet paper rolls per bathroom + A set of personal shampoo, conditioner, hand & body soap (also per bathroom), 2 paper towel rolls, a few kitchen trash bags, a kitchen sponge, some dish soap and a couple of dishwasher and laundry detergent pods. ]

CANCELLATION POLICY: Our cancellation policy (effective for bookings confirmed after April 1, 2024) is outlined below:
For reservations that are 21 days or less, A reservation cancelled ( by email receipt ) between 0 - 45 days prior to arrival is not eligible for a refund. If reservation is cancelled more than 45 days prior to arrival, guest shall receive a refund of all payments made* less a cancellation fee of 10% of the total cost of the reservation AND the cost of any trip insurance if purchased.
*Refunds do not include third-party service fees as those are determined by the booking site and we do not control how those funds are processed.
For any reservations that are more than 21 days, No refund will be given unless the property is re-rented over the previously booked dates.
You may purchase Travel insurance to cover your trip for cancellations. Contact Highlands Vacation Rentals for details.

The Best Fall Break

This home was ideal for our small family of three. We enjoyed the comfortable layout of the home including the nice wood burning fireplace which we used nightly. 100% would stay here again.

Lovely cottage

The cottage had everything that we needed. It’s a very sweet property. Coffee in the morning birds singing the patio and porch it is lovely. I don’t think that the property had been stayed in an a while because all of the furniture outside is pretty dirty, and the shower curtains were moldy on the inside. We called the management company and they immediately came and changed them. Management company was very responsive. I highly recommend this for a small family, great getaway

Very cozy and quiet

Loved the house and one of the most comfortable master beds we have ever enjoyed in a rental. If anything, and it's a small thing, the screen porch is not accessible from the house, which would have allowed easy backyard access for the dog without having to go out front and around in bad wrather. We had to walk him out the front door leashed, thru a gate and then let him loose. Not that much trouble but I couldn't tell that from the pictures. Overall probably one of the best put together houses we have enjoyed in that area!

Upstairs gets a little hot on warm days/nights

Great location! Clean and lots of furniture inside and out. Couch could be replaced since it sags and is not real comfortable. The in wall air system works great for downstairs but to keep upstairs cool on warmer nights or days you must really chill downstairs. Overall we had a great time and appreciate the cleanliness.

Great place

The house is small and cozy with one bedroom and a large sleeping loft open to the downstairs. There is a bathroom on each level. The house is clearly someones second home and, as such, has everything you need even though it is a little worn and well-loved. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the fenced in yard was much appreciated by our pup. The location is excellent with only a couple of minutes into Highlands. The only negative was a relative shortage of clothes storage. The closets in the downstairs bedroom were partially filled and there were no hangers (we bought some) and there was only one small dresser. The loft area had no clothes storage at all and our kids improvised by placing their clothes in piles on every available surface! It worked but looked quite messy for our two week stay. Overall we would stay again!

We had the best time at the Red Rooster! We hiked all over Highlands, played games in the yard, and fished in Mirror Lake. We can’t wait to come back!

Highlands Holiday

The house was just as pictured! So cute and well stocked kitchen. Great side yard for the dog to run. Easy to get from the home to down town for eating and shopping. We enjoyed our stay!
