About this property
Savage Cabin- Ocean and Estuary Nature Retreat
Our 1962 cabin might be in the best location on the Oregon Coast! At the base of Cascade Head, the cabin is in the Salmon River Estuary with a view of three rocks, the Ocean, and a secret "boat access only" beach. Cascade Head is a UNESCO biosphere reserve, with most of the area protected state, federal and Nature conservancy lands. Enjoy this remote nature-lovers paradise. Fish for salmon or crab out the front door, or canoe or kayak.
The cabin is up two flights of stairs, in the canopy.
Our cabin is small but well appointed for 8 guests. Each side features 2 bedrooms with jack-and-jill bathrooms. The great room opens to amazing views and a wrap-around deck. The lower deck is sheltered, and provides space to barbecue and access to our hot tub, complete with outdoor shower.
The space is all yours! We respect your privacy during your stay, but do have local staff available for emergencies.
Easy access to Cascade Head Nature conservancy trails, across from Camp Westwind, walking distance to Sitka Center for Art and Ecology.
Car is recommended, although we'd be a great layover for cyclists on the Oregon Coast bike route.

we stayed here last november and it was amazing.. then we stayed here in june and it was even more amazing,,, love this place and will come back again!!
Loved loved loved this house on the Salmon river….quiet, beautiful scenery, and an easy drive to Lincoln City. Hot tub was great to use as well as the fireplace. House was very comfortable for the two of us and we would definitely stay there again.
The location was secluded with a fabulous view. The boats were much appreciated for reaching the beach and activities on the river. Such a comforting and delightful house!
We really, really enjoyed our stay here! The location cannot be beat and it is very peaceful and rejuvenating staying here. I will note that the cabin is dated and original, but it is very cute. We enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, watching wildlife, and being remote. It truly is a magical place. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! I would love to come back and bring my family or do an annual trip here!
Incredible location along the Salmon river within sight of the ocean. Loved sitting on the deck soaking in the view, watching tide come and go. Used the kayaks and canoe to access the beach across the river. Hiked up cascade head trail to stunning views of the coast. House was clean, comfortable and kitchen worked well. A wonderful place to get away and unwind.
Great location -- it couldn't be better if you like nature and a quiet get away. We really appreciated that it was pet friendly - dog Emmie added greatly to our gathering. The kayaks and canoe are a nice perk. Although getting the canoe back up from the beach and on the ramp needed quite a bit of muscle. We appreciated the mid century feel. A few supplies from home - sharp knives, a good saute pan and a big pot if you want to catch and cook crab are worth the transport. Enjoy, it is a great get away!
some issues with weed smell and with stove shorting out but the location is great. could use some updating but if your going to sweat the details don't book a cabin. place worked out great would stay again.
We enjoyed our visit at the Savage Cabin so very much that we wish we could have stayed another couple of days... one of the most spectacular locations we have ever stayed at and definitely hope we can go again when the weather is warmer so we can go across to the beach area! thanks a bunch for having us to your place John and Heather!!
Stayed 4 nights. Beautiful view of the Salmon River and Pacific Ocean. Riverfront is rocky; but there is a lovely sandy spit/beach directly across the river. River is about 2 feet deep at low tide and may be easily waded to reach the beach. A quick 5 minute canoe ride will also get you there. Seasons and tides change, so YMMV. Had a great time listening to the surf, watching the tides ebb and flow, and studying aquatic wildlife: saw Harbor Seals (up close), Cormorants, Pelicans, Grey Herons, King Fishers, Bald Eagles, and Sea Lions. Also some large crabs and small salmonids. Very peaceful and secluded; hard to see another house from the property (you have to really try). Will definitely return.
My wife and I recently completed a relaxing week-long stay at Savage Cabin. We enjoyed the serenity of the location and amazing views - this place is nothing short of what is pictured in the photos! We enjoyed hearing the birds and watching the wildlife -- spotted a number of seals, both swimming and resting on the beach just across the river, and even spotted a river otter! We explored a bit of the river with the canoe and enjoyed walking on the beach across the river and encountered only a few other folks.
Savage Cabin is a short drive to Lincoln City; Safeway is no more than 10-15 minutes. We enjoyed the fish and chips from Pub Fish and Chips. The location was also convenient for access to other towns on the coast.
One reviewer commented on the roads ... there is a segment of road that's gravel and the driveway to Savage is also gravel, but both are in great shape and we found these to be perfectly passable in a small coupe.
Spectacular setting, no close neighbors, beautifully stocked kitchen, and everything you need to explore the Salmon River. I loved the HUGE stuffy seals on two of the beds!
The details that were put into this home where thoughtful. We found ourselves missing the home and the view once we where home. Truly enjoyed our stay, would stay again. Great location!
We absolutely loved our stay during spring break at the Savage cabin. We had all we needed and never really interacted with anyone, which is what we wanted for our stay. Just sitting on the deck and taking it all in was all we needed. I did leave some items behind and I'm trying to work on getting them back, this was totally my fault, but as of this review, I have not had a response, but I'm sure the renter is busy, hoping to hear back either way, again does not effect our stay whatsoever, such a lovely rental.
The view was gorgeous and astonishing. Right from the deck, we saw an otter eating a crab (twice!), a group of 30 seals basking, a herd of elk, and amazing storms. The hosts were communicative and easy to work with. Highly recommend.
