Welcome to The Amsterdam House’s NYC Suite - a charming 2ND FLOOR apartment nestled in the heart of Jim Thorpe's Historic District. This fantastic apartment features a beautiful, large bay window, perfect for enjoying the views. You'll be just steps away from local favorites like the Mauch Chunk Opera House, Marion Hose Bar, Mauch Chunk Museum, and the Old Jail.
If you need recommendations for things to see and do in town, I'm happy to assist! However, there is a binder provided in your room with many recommendations upon your arrival.
The Space: Located on the second floor. Please be prepared to climb stairs with your luggage. The space is provided with all your needs for a vacation escape. Provided with a fully equipped kitchen for all your cooking needs, from snacks to full meals. The master bedroom is quite large with plenty of storage. Please keep in mind that when I do travel, I live in these apartments myself. Be respectful to labels as I have personal belongings in this unit. There's a second bedroom in the back featuring a full size bed with a twin pull-out trundle- a great option for children needing separate beds. Guests in this room can easily access the main living area via the hallway without passing through the master bedroom when occupied.
Location & Activities: Centrally located, diagonal from the Mauch Chunk Opera House, and walking distance to downtown (restaurants, museums, galleries). Penn’s Peak is nearby with a short drive. Great area for biking; Mauch-Chunk Lake is close. Bicycle storage is available in a nearby garage (must be reserved). We have a guest binder located in your room with other preferred recommendations upon your arrival.
Outdoor Oasis: From the top of the stairs on the 2nd level, down the hallway, you may exit the back door that leads to the outdoor space. Relax in our recently focused-on, hand-designed brick-paved 2-terrace backyard oasis with a relaxation area, outdoor dining, and an extraordinary gas and charcoal barbecue with a warming plate. *This is a shared space.
Amenities & Convenience: Our beds are already freshly cleaned upon your arrival and prepared for you. The kitchen includes pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, prep bowls, a small food processor, a 4-cup drip coffee maker (filters included), toaster, large crock pot, and a variety of spices and condiments. Bath is provided with linens and soaps for your use. Enjoy HD TV with HBO-GO, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. We use wifi-extenders for the best possible connection, though internet can be limited in Jim Thorpe. A Samsung washer and dryer are available for guests in the shared basement (use appropriate settings; no outside laundry or pet bedding). Easy keyless entry with a provided code.
Parking: One reserved spot in a nearby lot is included; an additional spot may be available for a fee. ZERO on-street parking is available (permit-only). Briefly double-park to load/unload. Stairs, halls, and basement are shared common areas.
We have a Non-smoking policy in or on the property. Please take a walk up or down W. Broadway to view the sights.
Pet Policy: Dogs are permitted ONLY with prior email approval and a nominal pet fee. ALL guests with a dog must email me first.
A Note From Your Host (The Owner):
Welcome to "The Amsterdam House," my three-family Victorian home in Jim Thorpe. I'm Laura, the owner, and I purchased this property—specifically the second-floor "NYC Suite"—as a retreat from New York City.
My love for the Netherlands inspired the name, and the apartment's urban feel reminds me of Soho lofts. Having lived in NYC for over 30 years, I find Jim Thorpe's charming, slower pace and historic architecture a perfect escape, echoing my passion for Amsterdam.
My mini schnauzer, Copine (French for 'girlfriend'), and I invite you to enjoy our home away from home!
